Dogs and cats need training and they provide communication and health benefits to their companions.
First, cats are adaptable to their surroundings. They know how to problem solve. Training them can be difficult because of their independence and they have a hard time following through on what they are told to do. Cats are lap pets. They enjoy sitting around and snuggling up to their companions. They love playing with a ball or strings. Cats love to show that they have conquered and devoured a predator by leaving their prey on the door step. When our family owned a cat she was so special. We named her Star and her name fitted her in everything she did. Our screen door latch was broken and it would no longer lock the screen door. Star learned by herself how to jump from the chair on the porch to the latch on the door and the door would pop open and Star would walk in the house. Imagine how we felt when she first did this trick.
Second, cats communicate through body language such as fearful, aggressive, and relaxed. It is during these times they are communicating their surroundings. They become fearful when they are in the presence of unfamiliar faces which cause hissing or they will arch their backs. My cat Star was a very spoiled cat and even though our dog and cat grew up together Star owned the yard by the way she walked around it and she dared Pudding to misbehave or else the claws would come out. There was a few times Pudding became sick and
Young kittens can be easily taught to use a litter box, and enjoy taking baths, riding in the car and going for a walk with a leash. Cats are able to learn the usual commands such as fetch, sit, shake a paw, play dead and many more (H. Ellen Whiteley). Granted that only dogs are trained for police work, guidance and rescues, cats have saved their owner’s lives without any training whatsoever. There are countless stories of housecats alerting their owners of dangers such as fire, gas leakage, home invaders and even calling 911 when its owner fell out unconscious out of his
Dogs’ eagerness to please their masters is also a commendable trait which cats simply don’t have. Without this, it would be very difficult to train dogs for the many jobs they now hold, from aiding law enforcement personnel and herding sheep, to seeing-eye dogs and even helping exterminators locate hard-to-find infestations. Cats
Cats purr within a range of 20 - 140 Hertz, which is known to be medically therapeutic for some illnesses. Purring has been known to lower stress, decrease the symptoms of dyspnoea, and help in the healing of bones and soft tissue as well as lower blood pressure.
That is the reason that anxiety medication can cause a cat to be less aggressive. The next thing that she explains is that cats aren't dumb. Then she explains that cats are very social animals because cats form a hierarchy with other cats. Temple Grandin then explains that researchers don't know why cats form this hierarchy because they don't fight each other for the “top cat” spot. She also explains that cats are super predators and will attack anything that resembles pray such as windscreen on a microphone. Then she starts to explain that cats will notice every little change such as a lamp moved and she says that cats learn a lot about their environment such as the example where she says that the cats will watch a “cat expert” escape from a box to learn how to do it. That is the reason she says cats can't get down from a tree because they probably learn that from their mothers and are taken away from their mothers before they learn that skill. She further backs this up because she state that only house cats get stuck in a tree not barn
Training your dog is the most important part of canine companionship. A happy dog is one who has structure and boundaries. Dogs are pack animals, and as such, they need guidance in the behavior that you expect from them. If you don't follow through in this leadership role, then the dog will naturally feel as if it is his place to do so. A dog that understands that you are the leader will naturally be easier to train.
Would you rather have a pet that is messy and needy or a pet that is clean
Another difference between cats and dogs is their social interactions. Dogs are more of pack animals. Members of their pack or family are very critical to them. They look for a
Practicality and simplicity help animal owners decide what type of animal they should own. If your house or apartment is full of mice, a cat will solve the problem. Although, some dogs hunt for small rodents in a home, they usually confuse live animals with toys. On the other hand, dogs can be trained to do a variety of things, but sometimes training can be tedious and teaching a dog how to sit can be impractical for everyday life.
The purpose of this report is the RSPCA has assignment me to create a training manual to be given to people who adopt cats and dogs. The animal I’ve chosen to do for this task is a dog. The creation of this training manual requires a complete understanding of each theory and process of learning which includes providing an informative report with clear instructions for owners to use when training their new pets.
It's always fun to see an excited dog waiting for you when you come home from a long day's work. This is not something that cat owners are usually able to experience.
So in order for cats to survive out in the wild, they need to have ways to keep themselves safe from predators. When cats are being attacked by predators, or they feel threatened in any way, they will arc their back and fold their ears. They will also let out a high pitched yowl called a hiss. Cats do this to stand up to their predator, and let them know that they will fight them if they come close. Cats also have a lens in the very back of their eyes which makes it so that when it is dark out, the lens reflects light off of it, making everything around them light up to them. This can be very useful when it is dark out and an owl is hunting. Cats can see the owl coming and hide away. Cats also have very large ears that can hear 3x better than a human can. Cats ears can also rotate, around almost 360 degrees which can help them pinpoint where the, say coyote, is and run away in the right direction, or prepare for an attack with their sharp
Sixty-two individual muscles in the ear allow for a manner of directional hearing:[15] the cat can move each ear independently of the other. Because of this mobility, a cat can move its body in one direction and point its ears in another direction. Most cats have straight ears pointing upward. Unlike dogs, flap-eared breeds are extremely rare. (Scottish Folds are one such exceptional genetic mutation.) When angry or frightened, a cat will lay its ears back, to accompany the growling or hissing sounds it makes. Cats will also turn their ears back when they are playing, or occasionally to show interest in a sound coming from behind them.
It is often said that a dog is a man’s best friend. In the last 14,000 years, dogs have accompanied man by helping him hunt, guard, and protect. In our modern world, dogs help us combat in war, search-and-rescue, guide the blind, deaf, discapacitated, rehabilitate patients in therapy, aid law enforcement, and are part of our family as beloved pets (Coren). Although canine superstars such as Lassie, Old Yeller, and Rin Tin Tin portray the perfect dog we all want in our lives, these ideals are far from the truth. Many first-time dog owners expect dogs to know behaviors such as how to walk on a leash, not bite, not destroy the house, and in addition to many others. In reality, dogs must be trained on what their handler wants them to do. It is
On the other hand, there are some great differences between cats and dogs. The first difference that can be easy to notice is that dogs are pack animal and cats are more of lone. As a pack animal, dogs like a social and gregarious life. They love company; they will never feel bored if one spends a lot of time with them. They do not like being isolated out of community; generally, they like to follow their owner to wherever. In contrast, a cat is a solitary creature, hunting alone. Cat loves to spend lots of time alone, like sleeping in the warm sunlight by itself, solitary wail, and so on.
But if the unusual gestures and actions are due to the environmental changes, you can take care of certain things to help your cat. A cat’s world is as small as the size of a room. So, try to keep it the same. If you want to change the place of the litter box, keep another one on the same place till the time your cat is able to adapt to the change.
