Have you ever walked into a store and be bombarded with signs that want you to buy something. Have you ever walked around a store and seen these brightly color, big worded signs that are trying to get your attention. In smaller store the signs seem bigger and in bigger stores they group products together. Dollar stores are small that set up their store in a way that draw people to walk through the store. Dollar stores draw you by having small stores with big sale signs in them. Put them in a big store, they wouldn't pop out as much, but in a small store they look bigger. Add to that the packed high shelves that make customers want to look around and find better deals. These signs pry on customer's impulse. A person may think looking at a …show more content…
I was walking into Target one day and one of the first things I saw was the dollar signs with shelves of little ideas. It was October, so there were Halloween products. Like bags of candy, little tin cans that had pictures of pumpkins and ghosts, face painting kits, plastic spider rings, head bands with cat ears on it for a cat costumes, and pumpkin candles, etc. In this display Target had a theme to the grouping of produced and that was things that people would need or want for Halloween. The layout and sign made it convenient for customers to get all the ideas they wanted and maybe more because they were cheap and easy to get to. Another way that a store would make people want to buy more is to get people to look around for longer, which makes customers buy more.
People don’t realize how much effort stores put into designing their store layout. They use different techniques like some having a small store so they can stock put more product on their shelves, to make the store look fuller. Another is making the signs look bigger because of the small space. Bigger stores group products for different occasions, so the customer buy what you want and leave faster. These styles may change, and some may stay the same depending on the costumer's needs. But one thing will stay the same, how can we get people in our store? And how can we make them buy our
Improving the store internally with more resourceful employees, better lighting and displays, and more organized floor plans will start to change the image of Dollar General that the average public holds. A more respectable store will lead to an increase in customers. Dollar General will then begin developing a system of a more sustainable competitive advantage among the small and large firms of the similar industry.
There is this particular Target store located at the city of Signal Hill that I really enjoy shopping all the time. I love the nice organization of the store, it has excellent lighting, useful new products to my everyday necessities, and I always find tempting good deals. Throughout the years I have notice some population changes and racial diversity among the residents that shop at target, which I think is very interesting. Around ten years ago, Target used to be different, there was not much variety in clothing, no groceries section, and Black Friday was not as popular as it is today. One interesting fact about Target now days, is that it is the third largest discount store in the world, based on sales. Back when I was younger, I clearly
Technology has made it to where we can shop online or from our phone in just seconds. It has also brought us coupons, debit/credit cards, checks, organizational charts and so much more. Shopping online can save us money and time. When shopping online you can most of the time get discounts, buy in bulk and have items delivered to your house which in turns saves you money. Dollar Tree’s online store is a great tool to have; however, you have to buy in bulk online. With that being said that means when you go to check out you have to have the minimum amount of each item, which can be a pain. It is still nice to look and see what they have, and possibly buy sets of containers or anything else you may need a lot of. Dollar Tree accepts coupons(! What does this mean? It means you can get things for almost nothing and sometimes completely free. It helps tremendously when you have a tight budget. Due to all the advancements in technology even your local Dollar Tree has debit/credit card readers. Most people don’t carry around a lot of money so their cards are their best friends. Have you ever walked in a Dollar Tree, Wal-Mart, Dollar General or Family Dollar? I bet you noticed that they are all set up pretty much the same way. They get sent organizational charts every time they bring new item in, delete item or the seasons change. This is to give them all the same look and flow, and it also makes it to when you go into any of these stores even for the first time all of the stores are laid out pretty much the same. People hate looking for things in a store, and this nifty invention takes out most of the guess work. Remember as you walk through the front of the store this Christmas season what do you see? Christmas items everywhere they do that because they know it will impulse you to buy it even if you don’t need
On the website that I found this article there was a chart comparing dollar stores to grocery stores, convenient stores, drug stores, supermarkets warehouse clubs, and mass merchandisers. This chart shows that the dollar stores have the highest percentage rating for being convenient to their customers. One of the major reasons for this is because there are so many dollar stores. There are probably several located near your home or work place. Another reason is from the changes that I mentioned earlier. They are becoming more of a one stop store with all of the products you need, instead of just a dollar
The dollar store customer is a complex individual. According to Businessweek, through the use of a product which tracks where consumers shop, those who frequent the dollar store are not necessarily who you think they are. This study showed that individuals who shopped at ‘true’ dollar stores were the same ones who frequented other outlets including Trader Joe’s, Panera Bread, and
The first thing that I spotted when walking into Target was a huge flyer with items that range from freezer foods to cosmetics that had sale written all over them in large red letters. That not only caught my attention but also made me want to see these sales for myself. After walking past the flyer there was a small put
In the world of commerce and retail today, there are a variety of retail stores that are all geared toward the customers who are interested in saving money and finding bargains on their daily purchases, as well as on some of their major purchases. Some of the retail stores that are in this category of low prices and discount prices are Big K-Mart, Wal-Mart, Inc., Fred’s Dollar Store, Family Dollar Store, and Ollie’s Bargain. Due to the increase in e-commerce and online purchases, several of these retail stores, such as Big K-Mart and Fred’s Dollar stores are closing in many areas of the country. Since there has been an increase in the demand for more sales and discounts by customers and there are less discounts stores available, retail stores
Competition in the local areas – As stores are in rows joined onto other businesses it is predictable that someone else in the area is selling the same or related product therefore it puts pressure on the business to overcome rivals and attract more customers.
Something else I would recommend for Target is changing their Visibility methods. Visibility is the placement of the most popular products in spots that will catch the customer’s eye. If Target was to place its key items in places that are easy to be spotted this will ultimately increase its visibility. To be more specific placing these products on the front shelf or in aisles that are can be easily seen even with a lot of distraction. This is product placement and this technique can be implemented at all levels not only just in the stores. For instance, in the distribution centers, they could place more popular items on the like in targets case diapers or laundry detergent on lower shelves to be able to access that product with ease and
One thing that dollar stores have done is making their products accommodating to certain household incomes. Even with that during the recession dollar stores became more popular because they provide affordable products that consumers can buy and that are cheaper than Wal-Mart possibly. Their approach of expanding their stores into: cosmetics, perishable foods, party and stationary supplies, makes it like a mini affordable Wal-Mart. This I think is a smart idea by taking something that has foundation and expanding it to generate more revenue for the company, but also generate more notoriety to
Target has deals that continue every week and people can get their buys the way they plan like. This store has enormous potential to get to customers at best and with efficiency that there will be better consumer marketing that has to be done to improve economies people function with to improve future of countries that need prosperous ways to fulfill needs they have.
From a young age, we learn to consume goods. We learn all our shopping habits from our parents as they learn it from their parents and so on. What we never come to realize is that we have been set up to consume. It is the small marketing strategies that we bypass and triggers our brain to buy. We are all up for a good bargain yet we don't realize how effective these skills affect our life that trick us into buying their merchandise. How do department stores do this? What strategies do they use? Through my observations and textual support we will notice marketing strategies Ross uses for customers to consume.
Dollar Tree states their stores are bright and well lit, clean and well organized, and stocked with endless hidden treasures to enhance the customer experience (Dollar Tree, 2016). Just as important, they offer our customers products they need from trusted national and regional brands at low prices for a maximum value. Basically, “Everything you need for every day, every holiday, every occasion... and every single item is only $1 (or less)!” (Dollar Tree, 2016, para. 1).

Customers must take several precautions when shopping, especially those on a budget. There are traps all over the stores, from the parking lot to the meat department.
