This memo addresses the business writing advice received from Domenica Castro, a Commercial Banking Associate at MB Financial Bank. The interview took place at Giordano’s Pizzeria. In the interview, Castro provided insight on business writing challenges and methods she follows to improve her writing including proofreading.
The biggest challenge Castro faces is communicating with her customers through email and letters with clarity and brevity. Writing to her customers may become difficult because of banking jargon. Castro emphasizes that she reads emails aloud to proof read them, especially when she responds to complicated questions or customer disputes. Even today, Castro reminds herself that she works at a bank and her customer does not, thus, she works to ensure that her email is pertinent to the recipient. It could mean the loss of a sale or acquiring new business. It’s like dressing for work; looking professional or unprofessional.
