Domestic violence(DV) has been described by World Health Organization (WHO) (2013) as the Infliction of physical, sexual or mental harm, including coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty. DV involves a range of behaviors that may be characterized by physical violence, coercive behaviors, emotional abuse and controlling. DV has no straightforward linear causes but there are a number of well-documented risk factors and associations. This public health problem affects women from all cultural background. Evidence has shown that both current and past IPV are associated with immediate and long-term physical and mental health problems (Ghandour, Campbell & Lloyd, 2015).
Literature review.
The first step in tackling the issue of domestic violence is knowing the cause. Using an exploratory qualitative research study, Trigueiro & Labronici, (2011) identified the risk factors that generate domestic violence. During the period of December 2010 to February 2011, eight women who lived in an Institutional Housing Service in the city of Curitiba / PR were interviewed. The interview was conducted in an individualized semi-structured manner that allowed for the full record. The results were analyzed using Thematic Content Analysis (TCA). TCA is a four stage process: analysis organization, coding, categorizing and inference.
