Yesterday I read a news story, which was disturbing and left me in awe. The article was titled “Donald Trump: Ban All Muslims Entering US”, by Ed Pilkington was published in Guardian dated December 8, 2015(http://bit.ly/1OLTDLt). The story talks about Trumps comments about denying entry to Muslims into United States.
Pilkington reported that Trump in a statement released by is campaign office proposed to ban entry of Muslims to US as they pose a threat to country and people living in United States. Pilkington stated that to justify his claims to banning Muslims Trump presented polling which showed hatred of Muslims towards Americans (Pilkington 2015). Pilkington reports Trump saying “Shariah authorizes such atrocities as murder against non-believers

According to Reid, counter-myth is the reinterpretations of old myths in terms the society now recognizes those ideas (Hexham, counter myths, 27 Jan 2016). Myths are stories that affect people’s lives as described Irving Hexham and Karla Poewe in the book “New Religions as Global Cultures”(Hexham &Poewe 1997, 174). Hexham and Poewe aver that “The importance of myths lie not with the particular qualities of the story itself, but with the use which is made of the story. When a story acts upon the imagination of an individual or collectivity in such a powerful way that it begins to shape their lives, moulding their thoughts and directing their actions” (Hexham &Poewe 1997,175). Trump’s statement is representing counter-myth in action; Trump is using the action of some extremists to reinterpreting the idea of all Muslims being violent, that all Muslims hate America to serve his political agenda. The message he is sending out, whether or not its true is changing the basic beliefs about Americans toward Muslims. These beliefs are bound to influence their actions and can provoke a reaction that otherwise would not be a norm.
I believe that such views will have damaging effects on social life and relations between people. People rely on their personal beliefs, myths, to shape their thoughts about other individuals and communities. Redefining these views, counter-myths,
Muslims are one of the most marginalized people in the U.S for their beliefs and their religion but after 9/11 discrimination and hate crimes against them had become even worse.Throughout the U.S people have been “Anti-Islam” and believed that the Muslim’s religion is absurd, want muslims to change their beliefs or, leave the country.According to “Anti-Islman Discourse in the United States in the Decade After 9/11:The Role of Social Conservatives and Cultural Politics”by David D.Belt on page 211-212, talks about how a post on Charisma News with an article title “Why I am Absolutely Islamophobic” was urging at the fact that Muslim-Americans needed to be deported as soon as possible ,or go under sterilization. Also Belt talks about one of Bush’s family friend being,Franklin Graham saying that he thinks the muslim’s religion is “very evil “and “wicked”.One last example a man named Gabriel had said Islam is the real enemy of America and that we supposedly “we will be doomed in war if we don’t realize it”. People are so brainwashed it honestly insane and very ignorant at the things people think about Muslims, its barbaric. They believe what Muslims believe in and their religion is wrong and they should switch to “Christianity” because it is the “American way “ or have them deported because the do not belong there and are “terrorist”.
Donald Trump has suggested a “total and complete shutdown” of Muslims entering the U.S. While ISIS
On January 20th, 2017, Donald J. Trump was inaugurated and became the official 45th President of the United States. A mere seven days later, and the country is already tearing at the seams. January 27th, 2017 marks the day that the world stopped spinning for a multitude Muslim immigrants. It marks the day that the immigration ban was signed, prohibiting citizens from seven countries of a large Islamic populace (Yemen, Sudan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Somalia, and Libya) from entering America for a period of 90 days.On top of that, the U.S. refugee program was suspended for an extra 30 days in hopes of preventing terrorists from entering the country. This ban will be detrimental to not only America’s
With the explosion technology and social media, not only do Americans have to read multiple sources to fully understand topics like politics, you have to scan and skim those articles to make sure they can rely on them. In Jonathan Capehart’s article, “Donald Trump’s rhetoric will keep the Republican Party out of the White House,” for The Washington Post, describes why Trump’s blatant racism and ludicrous comments will keep not only him, but all Republican candidates out of the White House. Capehart argues that the countless offensive remarks against Hispanics will make the Republican Party less credible and then even if Trump is not the main GOP candidate, his xenophobic comments will keep any Republican out of the Oval Office. From a glance, this article may seem reasonable and level-headed, however, the information provided is flawed and does not paint an accurate picture of the whole situation. Capehart also presents his article as partially biased, even though any opinion should almost be nonexistent. Comparably, another article by Charlie Savage, describes a similar account of Donald Trump saying something offensive about minorities, but this time it is about Muslims. In his article for The New York Times, Savage talks about a revision made to Trump’s “I plan to ban all Muslims from the United States” speech that could potentially keep Trump out of the courts and keep him in the race for President. By Trump stating he was only going to ban Muslims who were out
According to a Family Nurse Practitioner, Terry McCleary, since President Trump’s election, “There have been fewer and fewer new Mexican immigrants coming to my clinic.” This is probably happening because a lot of the Mexican immigrants in the US are illegal immigrants, and now they have gone back to their original country mostly because they are scared of being deported. I noticed that Muslim countries are such a big topic these days, when just a few years ago the Muslim immigrant population was not very popular. Now there are a large number of immigrants from El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala in the Bay Area. They have come to escape from the violence in their countries. Studies indicate that there are now mostly immigrants from India, China, and South America in the US. Ever since President Trump was elected, there has been so much communication about muslims coming into the country. The thought of Muslim immigrants coming to the US has a whole new viewpoint. According to the article from the Boston Globe, “Trump suspended the admission from other countries for 120 days and suspended the entry of citizens from seven muslim countries for 90 days”. This action demonstrates that President Trump thinks that Muslim immigrants to us are a big threat to our country. I believe that this a bias ban because it prevents mostly non-criminals from coming here.
The latest hot topic when it comes to the Republican candidates for the presidential election is Muslims. From Donald Trump saying we have a “Muslim problem”, to Ben Carson saying Muslims are unfit for office, the attack on Muslims has been a big subject. In this New York Times editorial “The Republican Attack on Muslims”, the author talks about how recently the Republicans were not the nicest when it comes to the Muslim community. Recently, Donald Trump has hinted towards his dislike for Muslims. In a recent interview, the interviewer stated that “we have a problem in this country, it’s called Muslims”, and that our President (who is an American-born Christian) is also a Muslim. When the interviewer asked Mr. Trump when we would get rid of them, he said “We’re going to be looking into that.” Donald Trump has also stated that he thinks Muslims were behind the World Trade Center attacks, which is not true.
September 11, 2001. The date no American will ever forget. It was the day a group of men from the Islamic terrorist group known as the Al Qaeda struck terror on American soil and went down in history as one of the most gruesome occurrences the United States has ever faced. Ever since the day of the attack, Muslims have been living in the shadows and have been treated as second class citizens. And now, nearly fifteen years after the attacks on America, there is now a running presidential candidate who has intended to ban all Muslims from the United States. Donald Trump, the running Republican front-runner has proposed a “complete shutdown” of Muslims entering the United Sates.
Donald Trump stated on December 7th that he wanted “[a] total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on.”[1] This
What are Muslims immigrants 'reactions to the new president? Furthermore, how do they express them feelings? Some of the Muslims immigrants wrote on Facebook and Twitter to express their fear of what the future may hold. Moreover, Muslims incredibly scared for not only their family, country, and friend, but also for minorities everywhere. Aziz Ansari is an American actor from a Muslim immigrant family. In addition, he is a comedian and writer, too, and he has a strong article “Why Trump Makes Me Scared for My Family”. Also, it was published in the New York Times June 24, 2016. In this article, Ansari represents his reaction about the new president Donald Trump, and how Trump ban of Muslim and immigrants that makes him fear of his family. Ansari is right
Within the first paragraph it says, “He had even vowed not only to “bomb the sh-t” of the Islamic State fighters in Syria but also to “Take out their families” – another likely war crime.” This would not sit well with some people, some people’s morale conscious would not want this to happen. Just after that it say, “he made his next move, an extraordinary call to bar all Muslims from entering the U.S, including tourists and business travelers, a direct challenge to the nation’s constitutional right to the free exercise of religion.” Banning a certain group from the United States because of their religion I like saying someone cannot come into your house because they are a different skin color, it is just
One of them was about being respectful to one another and taking an interest in others’ lives (Appiah xv). Now to apply this to the issue of Muslims, the first step in doing this is learning about what other countries thoughts are on this call made by Trump. Taken from the National Public Radio, Bill Chappell wrote comments and reactions from Trump’s ideas made from countries such as Turkey, Dubai, and
With that type of idea surging through America you would think people would say we was crazy, yet more and more people support him everyday with that belief that Muslims are the cause of terrorism. When Trumpf talks he usually uses words like “we” and “us” when talking to the public about the banning of all Muslims, from coming to the United States. With that mindset mostly all the people that do follow him are white, he talks about it as though it is a fight against them or us. Making many of the people side with him and storing more of panic on Muslims then there already is. Most of the people in America get their news from the media and nothing more and when you have enormous countries like the U.S and Britain exclaiming that being Muslim is being a terrorist many people tend to believe that and make start to make people panic even
This article was very dark but true. I still cannot believe that Donald Trump made those remarks about Muslims. Less than 1% of Muslims are in terrorist groups like ISIS. Donald Trump believe that Muslims should be kicked out o f the U.S. because of the few Muslims who made poor choices. Also, I can't imagine how it must feel for Muslim children. They have to listen to this on television. For example, in the text, "Sam Madi, of New Orleans watched coverage of Trump's remarks with his 11 year old son." It must feel horrible when a presidential candidate like Trump is making these hurtful remarks.
Donald Trump must have missed the memo on that one, considering he quote “wants a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our representatives can figure out what the hell is going on.”. He also says that Muslims believe in “murder against non-believers who won’t convert, beheadings, and more unthinkable acts.” It’s easy to see “what the hell is going on”; Americans (Trump included) are biasing Muslims based off of the actions of a religious terrorist group that don’t even follow the basic rules of Islam!
In San Jose California letters were written to two mosques expressing what the individuals think Donald Trump will do to Muslims when he is in office. The letters included items such as “He will do to you what Hitler did to the Jews”, “You Muslims would be wise to pack your backs”, “There is a new sheriff in town- President Donald Trump, He is going to cleanse America and make it shine again. And he is going to start with you Muslims.”, All the messages were signed “Americans for a Better Way”, and The letters were addressed to “Children of Satan” and “Vile and Filthy People.” An investigation has been going on but they have not found a culprit behind the letters.
