As we all know Donald Trump is our current President. He has recently been tweeting about three major events that had happened in the United States. The first Major event is the shooting in Las Vegas which took place on October 1st 2017. The second event is a 29-year-old man by the name of Sayfullo Saipov an Uzbek immigrant killing 8 people in New York City downtown. Finally the third event is the baptist church shooting in Texas. First is the shooting in Las Vegas. The shooter was named Stephen Paddock, a 64-year-old man who shoot down from the Mandalay Bay Hotel. Nobody knows why Stephen did what he did because right after the shooting Stephen killed himself. Donald Trump had tweeted about the shooting a day after on October 2nd “My warmest condolences and sympathies to the victims and families of the terrible Las Vegas shooting. God bless you!” We feel that Donald Trump could have done more than just give his condolences. Trump could make it harder for people, not from the U.S., to obtain guns so this can't happen again. We understand that there's not much to do especially that …show more content…
We do not think that President Trump really did much to try and prevent these events from happening. Although these events are all in the past and there is nothing we can doabout what has happened , in the many months that Trump had been in office he should have been able to put precautions to prevent incidences like those so that this had a better chance of being avoided. For example, as we have said in our second paragraph, Trump could have made obtaining a gun much more difficult for immigrants and American citizens alike. Though trump also couldn't do much because he can't ban driving, so he really couldn't help in the New York event. Although could have done an earlier ban on guns that are really powerful such the AR-15. But we still say that Trump could have done more. What do you
Two of the most hot-button issues faced in the 2016 election included abortion rights and gun control. Since President Trump’s election these issues have remained at the forefront of political discussion. With several months still remaining, 2017 had already claimed the reputation for the deadliest year for mass shootings in America’s history (Wilson, 2017). We began 2017 with six killed in the Ft. Lauderdale airport and progressed, to 58 killed in Las Vegas at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, to the most recent incident that left 26 dead in a Texas church. In addition to these three most notable events, there have been many other shootings that have brought the causality total to 112 with 531 wounded from mass shootings alone (Wilson, 2017). These senseless deaths left the American public emotionally drained and searching for a solution to a problem that the government is hesitant to proactively address, but rather leaves to the individual state’s discretion.
For my curent events collage I created a collage about the recent tragic mass shooting in Las Vegas. I chose this event because over the summer, I went on a road trip and we started in Vegas, and it was hard to believe that such a terrible massacre occurred in a place where I was on vacation at only a month before. On October 1st, Stephen Paddock opened fire on the Harvest music festival from his room at the Mandalay Bay, killing 59 people and injuring more than 450. The mass shooting is the biggest shooting in modern US history. The event has brought question to the gun policy, or lack thereof, that America regulates.
Donald Trump believes that we should extend the waiting period to buy a gun, also ban some assault rifles and limit restrictions on guns.”I generally oppose gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons and I support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun. With today’s Internet technology we should be able to tell within 72-hours if a potential gun owner has a record.”(8888). By doing this as he said he believes it will be the best result on gun control. He thinks that law abiding citizens should be allowed to carry guns as they please. The assault rifles he wants to ban because he thinks that no one but police and criminals should really have them. As for the 72-hour gun ownership is to ensure the person has a proper background check.
Mass shootings and acts of terrorism are starting to seem like an everyday occurrence. More and more we see on the news that people are killed by gun violence and there needs to be a change. “Every year more than 30,000 Americans have their lives cut short by guns. Suicides. Domestic violence. Gang shootouts. Accidents. Hundreds of thousands of Americans have lost brothers, sisters, or buried their own children.” (Obama, Para. 1). Gun violence is a big issue in the United States because of the amount of lives lost each year due to it. The problem of gun violence has been on the rise and United States has seen an increase of school shootings on the news. In order to save lives this problem needs to be fixed immediately. Fixing the gun violence
America is currently experiencing a frightening crisis of internal terrorism. In 2015 alone, there have been nearly 13000 deaths in America due to gun violence. Mass shootings have become regular occurrences on the news channels. After every single mass shooting, politicians, celebrities and regular people all over the country express their uttermost grief and regret for the lost victims. Consistently, there is a subsequent call for more gun control. In some cases, new bills may be proposed. It has become a routine of some sort. However, these efforts have amounted to a negligible amount of progress. Even with all the outrage and mourning from the public after each mass shooting, nothing seems to change. The initial passion and vigor regarding
No matter where you live in The United States, you have heard of the tragic mass shootings that have occurred throughout our history. Whether it was the high school students of Columbine High School, or the victims at Ft. Hood, or even the elementary school students of Sady Hook Elementary, we have heard the horrific stories that are quite surreal to think someone would want to harm so many innocent people. It is clear that something has to be done, even if only one life is spared, then it would be worth it. President Obama’s Address to the Nation on January 5, 2016 presents to Congress the idea that strengthening the laws on gun violence, will not stop law abiding citizens from purchasing or keeping their fire arms. Instead, the purpose
On June 10, 2014, since the Newtown Connecticut elementary school mass shooting, President Barack Obama stated this: “My biggest frustration so far is the fact that this society has not been willing to take some basic steps to keep guns out of the hands of people who can do just unbelievable damage. We're the only developed country on Earth where this happens. ... And it happens once a week. And it's a one-day story. ... The country has to do some soul-searching on this." Every day there seems to be another story in the news regarding a shooting, ranging from small to large scale. Has something within ourselves changed that’s caused the increased violence? Maybe it’s to get their 10 seconds of fame? I fear that the situation is only going to get worse as time goes on. There has been an increase in mass shootings over the last decade. In order to prevent the mass shootings and gun violence in general, we need to put stricter policies in place for both background checks and weapons allowed. Other countries around the world, with stricter gun laws, do not have the mass shootings like the United States does.
We thought that the 2017 Las Vegas Massacre would have enough impact to change the current gun regulations and to keep us safe from gun violence. But witnessing 17 high school students and teachers dead from a shooting that could have been avoided, it doesn’t seem to be the case. We give our prayers to these people, but all it did was
Considering Donald Trump speech responding to the Florida shooting his only mention of gunfire he never brought up anything about the gun debate instead she wants to tackle kids with health and mental health issues. Meanwhile Florida is coping with the problem and had a no gun purchase for three days. Thats making a difference.
There were a couple of events that happened during George W. Bush’s presidency. One of these events was a natural disaster. In New Orleans, Louisiana, Hurricane Katrina occurred. This catastrophe stirred a lot of people’s emotions . Some of the people were upset at President Bush because he was on his vacation. While he was enjoying his vacation in Crawford Texas, his aides did not disturb him with this horrible news. Because of this, Bush did not act on this subject. This altered Bush’s reputation in some people’s eyes.
Guns, titled “great,” by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump are, in his opinion, the only things keeping American citizens safe. Trump states that he “feels much better when armed” and is in full support of efforts to increase gun ownership. It is obvious that when everyone owns a gun, everyone will be safe. Gun related accidents do happen, for example, 23 people have been shot by toddlers this year, however, this is a price worth paying for the safety of the American
Two-hundred and forty-one years have passed since the birth of what many refer to as, the land of the free. Forty-five presidents have been elected, through what many acknowledge as the ideal process of democracy. Within all this, it has now been eighty-two days since President Donald J. Trump has been in office, in power, and inside our minds as he unravels his entire plans and his kept promises about his health-care plans, budget strategies, and immigration bans.
The United States of America is facing a very important problem with guns. This problem has been brought to light recently by mass killings. Weak gun laws allow criminals to get their hands on deadly weapons capable of ending many innocent lives. There are many automatic weapons being sold in the U.S. that don't belong in civilian hands. While the U.S. government is pouring money into military spending, innocent lives are being lost due to mass killings across the U.S. In just 2015 alone, 22 mass shootings where more than four people were killed have taken place. Most of the shooters were either mentally unstable, connected with militant organizations, or had extremist views on race, religion, or nationality. There were also hundreds of smaller
According to Business Insider, Democrats are becoming more and more outspoken about gun violence in the wake of seemingly ever increasing mass shootings. Such an increase in mass shootings has guaranteed that candidates will have to address the issue on the campaign trial, aiming it to become a major issue in the 2016 presidential election. Hillary Clinton, for example, made it clear early on in her campaign after a mass shooting at a historically African-American church in Charleston, South Carolina. Mrs. Clinton has become much more vocal in her calls for stricter gun laws, making it a recurring issue. “This is a controversial issue. I am well aware of that, but I think it is the height of irresponsibility not to talk about it,” Clinton states, according to The Washington Post. In addition to the Charleston incident, there have been high-profile mass shootings at military facilities in Tennessee and at a movie theater here in Louisiana. Republican front-runner, Donald Trump, doesn’t support any restrictions on gun sales in the United States. Trump has stated many times that recent mass shootings could have been avoided if some of the victims had been carrying guns. According to Republican Views, Republicans believe that governmental regulation of firearms is largely unconstitutional and therefore,
How does The Vegas shooting connect with Trumps gun control ruling? A ten year census from 2006 to 2016 of number of homicides committed by firearms in the US showed from 06’ to 2016 the deaths have risen from 10,000 to 11,000 especially since the allowance of more than one firearm and Trumps admission towards liberalist gun control has made it simpler to obtain firearms. For example, Paddocks case in under year he was able to buy over 20 rifles and pass each time its background and psychosis test. But now after the incident in Las Vegas, days after the shooting took place, “US politicians, gun control activists and even the pro-gun National Rifle Association (NRA) have said that restrictions should be imposed on so-called "bump stocks", an attachment used by
