Man of Boasting
Donald Trump is such an extreme; he is his own caricature. This is no more evident than his relentless boasting. Just for fun, see if you can find one occasion that this man speaks without boasted about himself. Good luck. This gets back to what I said about simplicity. People totally focused on themselves are frankly boring. Watching a full speech by Donald Trump is for me the equivalent of drinking a gallon of raw eggs. It’s absolutely nauseating. If he hasn’t started boasting by the first sentence, certainly he will within the first minute. It would be interesting to try to gauge just what percentage of non-teleprompter speeches are indeed boasting. You sometimes see the phrase, “a mouth speaking great things” associated with the

The phrase simply means a person speaking about how great they are. After the tragic terrorist shooting in Orlando that left 50 people dead, Trump’s very first words were not in regards to the victims, not in regards to the victims’ families, not even in regards to combating terrorism. His first words he tweeted out were to congratulate himself saying, “Appreciate the congrats for being right on radical Islamic terrorism.” And in classic Trumpian style he proceeds to say he’s not looking for “congrats”. Of course he’s not. That’s why he led off by congratulating himself. Guess he’s doing the work for us. How sweet. Later on that very same day, he said he was just responding to the thousands of letters and emails he had gotten. Odd. How is it he could receive thousands of letters the very same day the incident took place, especially since it happened in the early hours of Sunday morning. Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Trump’s a pathological liar, i.e.
Imagine that Donald Trump wasn't a businessman? I think he brought up the stocks, they are high. He is a President for the United States. He has or had four different businesses. He was in a Reality TV show. Donald trump has different talents and that he is a Renaissance man.
Niccolo Machiavelli published his famous book “The Prince” in 1513, which is considered as a “handbook” for leaders. “The Prince” explains to the reader(s) how to acquire and maintain political authority. According to Machiavelli, an ideal leader, is a person who is attentive of the men around him, believes the end justifies the means, and destroys disloyalty by trickery or falsifying his purpose. Many leaders throughout history have showed one or many traits that Machiavelli stated in his work. Therefore, Donald Trump, would fall under the category of a Machiavellian leader.
In the days following the United States presidential election, many Americans voiced their disbelief that Donald Trump, a man longtime considered a political joke and nuisance, won the election. But despite his brashness, entire lack of eloquence, and discriminatory tendencies, Trump was in fact elected. Many of Trump’s supporters attribute his success to his fundamentally different approach to politics and leadership. Max Weber’s lecture, Politics as a Vocation, provides an explanation of how Trump’s campaign was successful, why he is perceived as refreshing and different by his supporters, and how these same supporters were able to overlook Trump’s flaws. Weber defines in his lecture, three ideal types of authority; traditional, legal, and charismatic. Traditional authority can be associated with Hillary Clinton and her institutionalized style of politics, while Trump is aligned with charismatic authority. Trump’s charismatic leadership style contrasts the traditional American political approach which contributes to the perception of him as working against the status quo rather than for it. Weber’s description of how
Once he begins to appeal to the emotions of the audience, they forget that he has no credibility and are roused by his compelling arguments. He began the conversation by saying, “we’re gonna spend as much time as we need today” making sure that the audience knew they were the center of attention for as long as needed. Continuing in his opening remarks, Trump flattered the audience by saying he won the south states because “the evangelicals were so incredible.” Trump indulges the conscience of the audience with his flattery. The evangelicals that were listening felt important and crucial to the Trump campaign. At the end of the conversation Trump went as far to say that the evangelicals are “the most powerful group in the county” and that “there’s nothing more important to him than this group of people here.” This was just another dip into the audience’s ego and another vote for Trump on the
While viewing Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump speeches’ many would claim that they both have mastered the rhetorical triangle. As candidates, they both have both displayed strong and weak uses of their rhetoric. Aristotle also said that, “rhetoric is basis of democratic engagement in civic life.” Mastering rhetoric to appeal to the voters will be one of the key elements that determines our next president. Donald Trump attempts to use pathos a lot. He tries to play on the audience’s emotions. In one of his most controversial speeches he stated, “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending the best. They’re not sending you, they’re sending people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs.
I should like to start this address with congratulating President Donald Trump (who is out steamrolling the media and liberals everywhere in his haste for effective and efficient government) with his UPSET victory in this past election. We were told we couldn’t pull this off, that we were the minority, that our principles were those of
Finally, Trump uses multiple metaphors to make very specific points. Trump says, “We are one nation and their pain is our pain. Their dreams are our dreams; and their success will be our success. We share one heart, one home, and one glorious destiny”. As a result, Trump is trying to unify the nation. In a time where the nation feels divided and political parties cannot seem to agree with each other it is important to remind Americans that the country beats with the same heart. Therefore, this statement is meant to leave the nation feeling inspired to work together to face what is yet to come (Trump Inauguration Speech, 2017).
Donald Trump, a once controversial political candidate, gave his 2017 Inaugural address on January 20th, 2017 when he was inaugurated as the 45th president of the United States. Through appeals such as syntax and diction, religion and patriotism, and logic, Donald Trump was able to generate a unifying speech toward his audience. Amidst the growing violence and repercussions of the 2016 election, Donald Trump, in his 2017 Inaugural address, sends the message that he will put America and its citizens first to unite the country and change America for the better.
As of January of 2017, America is under new management. Donald J Trump, a businessman and reality television host, is the 45th President of the United States of America. In his inauguration speech, he reiterated the point of “America First!”, hailing back to the platform he ran on during the election against Hillary Rodham Clinton. His campaign was focused on anti-immigrant rhetoric, targeting non-American Muslims and Mexicans. He insists upon building a wall across our southern border and making Mexico pay for it. He criticizes trade with China, and believes that American companies need to be manufacturing their products at home instead of abroad. A president cannot govern by rhetoric, but according to a study held by White House advisor and
Whether or not one believes it is positive or negative, it is clear that the current president has displayed ruthless ambition in his career. My collage shows some of the examples of the billions of dollars Trump has as well as his television appearances. It also shows some examples of the consequences the country is facing with such an inexperienced president. Someone like Donald trump who is born into money is almost promised it as an adult. It’s as if him being a successful businessman was prophesied. Much like Macbeth, when something is hypothesized, it seems more logical to do whatever you can to make something come true, with no regard to consequences. Being ambitious is not a negative trait, it leads to a determination to grow and better
It was February of 2016. I took a Thursday off of school to go see one of the most controversial and decisive people in the world, Donald Trump. Donald Trump, since his announcement of presidency in the summer of 2015, has been the number one news story for the past year. His talking points on contentious positions of immigration and a revision of modern day politics as a whole. I have been supporting him since December of last year, so I went with my father to see him in person. The crowd was filling in, with about 1,500 people going to see what he was going to say. The rally was during the time of the primaries, when he was competing against Little Marco and Lyin’ Ted. The crowd was waiting anxiously to hear Trump speak. Out of nowhere, Chris
Donald Trump expresses his views without thinking about its consequences which shows that he is high on traits like talkative and extraverted. For example his views about the United States allies that they must pay money to US for defending them. [1]
Will Donald Trump fulfill America’s request and actually “make America great again”? When friends of mine who are Trump supporters inform me that they support him, I don’t understand the reasons why they picture him as our future president of the united states. Donald Trump has never been an elected official. He has never been elected into an office of any kind. He’s never had to broker political compromise or gave any political speeches prior to him running for president. With no experience in politics at all, why would people think he’d make a good president? Sure, Donald Trump is a barefaced self-promoter and experienced businessman. But people don’t realize all of the mistakes he has made as a businessman. Washington, D.C., is not a type of Wall Street or anything for him to lose money or make some reckless decisions that would put our country into a deeper hole that we are already into, and also getting multiple things done within the nation’s capital takes more than a huge personality and a strong will. If Donald Trump is elected to be our president, he’ll have to quickly learn how to deal with his Democratic associates in the House of Representatives and Senate. He’ll also have to get used to the pace of government because there are moments when things can accelerate pretty quickly and also where things can move extremely slow at times. He’ll also have to get used to giving speeches on topics he may not be interested in, especially when it comes to conversations
Another very effective rhetorical strategy used in this speech is allusion. The first allusion Trump makes is about The Marshall Plan. He mentions the pillars of The Marshall Plan: Peace, sovereignty, security and prosperity. He also states that “The Marshall Plan was built on the noble idea that the whole world is safer when nations are strong, independent, and free.” The reason he alludes to The Marshall Plan is
In Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs there are five stages. In order, the stages are: Physiological, Safety, Love and Belongingness, Esteem, and Self-Actualization. Trump flip flops between two of the stages: Love and Belongingness, and Esteem. One of Trump’s traits of the Big Five is narcissism, which in the McAdam’s (2016) article, it states that people display this trait because they lack early-life mirroring. This means that the parents failed to lovingly reflect on their child’s budding grandiosity, in return, leaving the child desperately seeking affirmation from others throughout their lives. Love and Belongingness reflects Trump’s narcissistic tendencies in this way. Trump shows the Esteem stage with his need to be the best, be successful, and prove that he can be a successful president. As president of the United States, Trump is trying to fulfill his Self-Actualization need with Self- Transcendence by helping others and fulfill his inner potential as president. Trump bases his actions and goals on the
