For the purposes of remaining anonymous, throughout the evaluation the subject will be known as John Doe. Mr. Doe suffers from undiagnosed bipolar disorder, which results in mood swings with stern thoughts brought on by severe stress. John Doe returns home with his parents after being released from an institution and forced to continue therapy. The assessment will look into John Doe’s disorder through the psychologists six theoretical models.
Number one of the theoretical model is the biological model. According to Comer, the biological model looks at the biological processes of human functioning to explain abnormal behavior, pointing to anatomical or biochemical problems in the brain and body. Before being released from the institution, after being placed into for assaulting his wife’s lover, he was placed onto several medications. John was placed onto five different medications in hope to control the full manic and major depressive episodes, which were Trazodone, Abilify, Seroquel, Klonopin, and Lithium. Trazodone’s major use is to treat major depressive disorder and is known as an SSRI antidepressant drug. Abilify is an antipsychotic medication that is often used to treat the symptoms of psychotic conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar 1 disorder. Seroquel is another antipsychotic medication that is used to treat schizophrenia and manic depression.
