I am highly recommending the application of Dr. Lucille Lange for appointment to the FDA Fellowship Program. The purpose of this letter is to share with you how extremely impressed I am with Dr. Lange’s abilities and aptitude, as well as her facility and ability to lead and inspire young adults to grow professionally. I have known Dr. Lange since July of 2001. We worked together at the Division of Neuroscience at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. We worked together in various collaborative efforts when I was the Deputy Chief for the Research Division at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense. In consonance with my research objectives, she assisted our team in the critical research area of chemical warfare

It was almost midnight when I got the call from Dr. Seagraves. She told me to meet her in the physicians lounge at 7 am: we had a case. The next morning began like any other in the operating room. We met with the patient, I received permission to observe and then got suited up for case. The patient was an elderly African American woman, she called me handsome and smiled comfortably. When we made it into the OR I was asked to help lift the patient from bed to table, with a subtle warning of “watch out, it’s gooey.” Dr. Seagraves parted the patient’s gown, exposing a mass of raw tissue that somewhat resembled a leg. The patient had suffered a week’s worth of necrotizing fasciitis, more commonly known as flesh eating bacteria. The wound had a certain odor, a putrid smell you do not forget. Our hearts sank in unison as we realized what we were up against. We had to act fast. Dr. Seagraves began scrubbing the wounded tissue as the Anaestesiologist monitored the patient’s progress. I had observed Dr. Seagraves on multiple occasions and never did she express concern for the outcome. For the first time in our relationship I heard her mutter, “This is not good. This is not good at all.”

Ms. T is an eight year old African American female that presents to Dr. Bill’s Kids today with complaints of her tonsils bothering her again. She has been to this office three times in the past three months with complaints of swollen tonsils and painful swallowing. Each time, she has tested positive for Group A Streptococcus also known as GAS. Her mother is with her today and reports that she had strep throat in the past multiple times about two or three times a year, but it is becoming much more frequent. She began complaining of scratchy throat in the morning and at night, but the symptoms quickly progressed to painful swallowing of solids and liquids. Popsicles are the only thing she will even consider eating at this time because they alleviate the pain.

Wigand worked in healthcare for companies such as Pfizer, Union Carbide, and Ortho Diagnostic System until he eventually landed a lucrative position with Brown & Williamson (B&W) in Louisville. impossible. Although Linda Brent was not able to get her children away from Dr. Flint and his mistreatment, she did not abandon her family to save herself. Instead, she decided to hide in her grandmother, Aunt Martha’s, attic. Several times during Linda’s life she was faced with the choice of fulfilling her desires of being a free woman or putting her family first. She believed that once Dr. Flint noticed that she had escaped to the North, he would be fearful of her children escaping and would sell them. When Mr. Flint sold Benny and Ellen to someone working for Mr. Sands she was told by Mr. Sands, also the father of her children, that he would free their children soon to live with Aunt Martha.
In "The Great White Way" Debra Dickerson says "Race is an arbitrary system for establishing hierarchy and privilege, good for little more than doling out the world's loot and deciding who gets to kick whose butt"(Dickerson 68). America has a history of racism. Ever since the first immigrants came to America the "white America" has discriminated against them weather it was European, Asian, Hispanic, African, or any other race. Race has always been America's central drama. What if Aliens came to America how would you explain race to an alien? Dickerson would say "Usually race is skin color...Until recently, race was culture and law: Whites in front, blacks in the back, Asians and Hispanics on the fringes"(Dickerson 68).

Dr. William Halsted was pivotal in perfecting surgical procedures and techniques that are still in use in modern times, regardless that they were created over 100 years ago. In the late nineteenth century, Halsted improved sanitary conditions in his residing hospitals in both New York and Baltimore, invented revolutionary surgical procedures, anesthetic practices, and created aseptic techniques to combat the frequency of infections and diseases that occurred post-surgery (William Stewart Halsted, 2007). Besides his contributions to the medical field, Halsted was one of four founders of Johns Hopkins, a prestigious medical college that still exists today (William Stewart Halsted).
Khalil Gibran. She occasionally practices Vipassana meditation and sometimes draws inspiration from listening to '70s rock music.
In Lucille Clifton’s home to my hips, Clifton perspicuously uses her hips as a symbol of self love and radiates the message of body positivity. She uses this poem as an opportunity to expose one of the many flaws in modern society, fat shaming. The tone of the speaker as well as diction used adds sass and pride to the poem and gives the reader an insight into this unique personality. In addition to challenging the common views of society, sexuality is also a main topic in this poem. In more than just a physical sense, hips are used to symbolize the empowerment of women no matter the shape or size.
