Awakening is based on a true story of a neurologist named Oliver Sacks; he was portrayed by Dr. Malcom Sayer that was played by Robin Williams. He is a neurologist who moved to a new institution in 1969 and was able to make a miracle to some patients who were catatonic. A boy named Leonard showed at the first, it was confusing since nobody knew what was happening to him. His hand kept on twitching and being stiff, he couldn’t write properly because of that. Then the scene changed and it was 1969. There came Dr. Malcom Sayer a neurologist who was assigned in Bronx Psychiatric Hospital. They said that she was found wandering around or something and then Dr. Sayer observed her carefully and he discovered that if you threw a ball or if a something falls in front of her, she has this reflexes that no one knew that she could make. Dr. Sayer told this to some of the doctors that were working there and they just laughed. Dr. Sayer then observed some of the catatonic patients and realized that they can do all the things that Lucy was tested to do. Dr. Sayer then met a patient who he was told by the patient’s mother that he has been hospitalized for 30 years. The patient’s name is Leonard and Dr, Sayer asked Mrs. Lowe about what happened to Leonard. She told him that Leonard likes to read and that he became like that at a very young age. Fast forward to when Dr. Sayer asked Mrs. Lowe to sign a form asking if she was alright to let him experiment on Leonard with a new drug. She agreed because she wanted what is best for her son. Dr. Sayer then made it happened and he added and added more dosage of grams to be given to Leonard. When the dosage of the new drug was to the highest point; Leonard has …show more content…
But the one actor who stood out was Robert De Niro as Leonard Lowe. The person that he did as Leonard Lowe wasn’t a very easy job because he has to act as if he actually is sick. Leonard is always getting hurt; his voice isn’t normal, and the way his actions were in the movie. I’m positive that Robert De Niro had a hard time portraying his character. The way he acted it so well fascinates me and made me realize that he is a great actor. In the movie, there are some parts that I didn’t like. It is where all the patients that were awakened became asleep again. That part made me sad and also made me realize that all good things must come to an end even if no one wants that. There were also parts that I liked for example; when the nurse cursed and said that it’s a miracle, also that time where Leonard has awoken. Those events made me realize that miracles do happened in one’s life when we least expected it to be. Since the movie has a genre of the movie is drama, the rate of this should be PG-13. It has a more mature meaning to people and it knocks out some sense to you that even though life can be hard; we should all know how to be patient and to be
During Rice’s childhood her mother had become ill. She had developed a bronchial infection. Rice’s father rushing to find her care, asked a white male colleague, Dr. Clay Sheffield who he would recommend. That saturday her family visited Dr. Carmichael. Pearson fixates her memoir on several different instances of medical mishaps that have happened in her career. For instance, she talks about the tragic death of her patient Mr. Rose. This patient provides Dr. Pearson with a life lesson that it is important to cherish the things you have then the things you wish you had. In this case, Dr. Pearson regrets cherishing the remaining time she had with Mr. Rose before he passes away. Another instance she learns a life lesson would be with her patient Elias, a young boy diagnosed with brain cancer. Even though Elias was slowly dying, his parents continued surgical procedures and heavily depended on the hospital staff to create a miracle. Dr. Pearson knew that Elias would not be able to recover, but she continued to assist through the surgeries as her “hands were tied”. Nevertheless, Dr. Pearson reflects that she could have put down her surgical tools and said no; instead, she participated in the surgeries. Later, Dr. Pearson realizes that her role and her identity as a doctor is to help her patients with their problems and to try to solve them as much as she can in a humane and respectable
But he was already opening the door: Damn it! What does Mr. Nelson want now? Dr. Cord glanced at the security chain above the door lock. It was fastened and he felt reassured. It turned out that the nocturnal visitor wasn’t Roger returning for something he forgot. It was C.E. Mason. And a mildly surprised Dr. Cord let him in: “I didn’t expect to see you till tomorrow.”

The First Awakening began as an idea of evangelical minister Theodore Frelinghuysen, however, didn’t begin to impact society until many itinerant preachers such as Whitfield and Jonathan Edwards began traveling throughout New England preaching against church hierarchies telling people what to do and having their relationships with God. Both the First and Second Awakenings reflected changes in religious belief, and as ministers preached different theologies than those of the past significant social changes caused an increase in religious passion and brought a revival to Christian thinking.
Overall I found the movie to be quite interesting and exciting at times but a bit slow in others. The story itself was very clear to me and didn’t cause any confusion. It had a good flow also, just as you were on the verge of falling into boredom with a scene they switched it up on you to keep you
Dr. Malcolm Sayer is a shy, absent minded, and a plant loving neurologists. He used to work in a laboratory before. He was put in charge of several seemingly catatonic patients at the Bronx psychiatric hospital. There he proves that he was a determined and a caring doctor. He discovered that there is certain stimulus that the patients show responsive. Lucy Fishman caught his attention and he offers a complete visual field by painting the floor tiles with the help of
50/50 is a different movie compared to usual movies about serious illness. This movie is unique because it is able to strike a great balance between drama and humor to such a profound topic of life and death. Regular movies on illness are sad and dramatic, but the writer of this movie has incorporated right amount of comedy to keep the movie light hearted without losing its resonance. Likewise, since the movie is inspired by a true story, many people who are suffering from the cancer or many people whose friends or family have cancer can get a sense of hope when they are coping with these similar situations.(Add few more sentences-performance..)
My views on this heart moving film would be never to give up in life, and with the right amount of determination you can succeed anything. The film tells us the simple, but moving story with a skilled storyteller's voice. The great importance of their
Leonard, the main character, is excellently played by Guy Pierce. He is constantly confused, yet still acts in a nonchalant way. Teddy (Pantoliano) and Natalie (Carrie Anne Moss) play puzzling characters, throughout the whole movie the viewer questions, whether they may or may not be Leonard’s friends.
The movie had me hooked, there was a lot of suspense, there were some parts when you were stunned to see what just happened. All the killing and violence were good techniques the directors used, it made the movie better and realistic, as I said before.
