Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was an astonishing activist that inspired a numerous amount of people with his speech. Dr. King was great because he displayed some traits. Some of the traits that he possessed were leadership, determination, and bravery. He was a man that preached about justice and wanted peace. Everyone can make a change and keep the dream alive by doing what Dr. King wanted. Which was to allow freedom to ring and to all come together as one.
Dr. King finally impacted history with by helping establish and then lead the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. The Southern Christian Leadership Conference(SCLC) was designed as a way to offer leadership in the civil rights movement, which MLK was elected President in 1957 and continued as the head until 1968, the year of his assassination. Then in 1963, the organization created a strategic effort to end economic policies that discriminated against blacks, termed the Birmingham Campaign. Also, known as the “most segregated city in Alabama” (TheKingCenter). What first started as boycotting morphed into sit-ins and marches, with King encouraging any type of nonviolent behavior that would result in the jails becoming overflowed. When
It is an honor to have Hayley Jackson inducted into Duchesne's National Honors Society. Hayley is very active in many of the clubs here at Duchesne. One of the many clubs she is involved in is drama club. Through drama club she has learned to love public speaking and use it to her advantage for schoolwork. She is also very involved in campus ministry in which she gets to shine as a leader and lead some of their sessions. She has shown that she is a leader through being the speech team captain and more importantly the pro life vice president. Being a pro life vice president, she stands against the crowd and stands up for her own beliefs showing true leadership. What is a Beloved Community? The term first originates from use in the early twentieth century, coined by Philosopher-Theologian Josiah Royce. We have all heard Martin Luther King’s famous speech, I have a Dream. His main goal was to convince everyone across the country to comprehend racial equality and to reinforce a solution for those individuals already engaged in the Civil Rights movement. You could say his speech was part of what made the movement successful. By him taking a stand, much attention was put into the problems that were going on. He was and still is viewed as an important leader who was an activist in the Civil Rights Movement. Here we will basically dissect parts of his speech and define the points he was making and trying to make. Throughout the paper, you will see how Dr. King uses Ethos, Pathos, and Logos to show his audience and make them feel what went on.
As we celebrate Martin Luther King Day and Black History Month, Blacks have made huge strides although coming from a past of inequality. I wasn’t particularly interested in seeing Selma because I knew what it represented. I feared to cry and get emotional over the hardships of post-slavery and the battles of the Civil Rights Movement. Once completing grammar and secondary schooling, in 1944, King furthered his education by attending Morehouse College, located in Atlanta. Following college, a scholar named Dr. Benjamin Mays convinced King to pursue a “religious career.” In 1948, King obtained his bachelor's degree, still wishing to continue his education, he enrolled in Crozer Theological Seminary school, later receiving the “Plafker Award” for being an outstanding student and then followed with the J. Lewis Crozer fellowship. In 1953, King finally reached his Doctorate. By this time, King was married.

On the observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated celebrated its Founders’ Day by completing hundreds of community service projects to include a Day of Service at the Perot Museum for the MLK holiday and February’s Discovery Days: Gadgets & Gizmos. The historically black sorority that is part of the “Divine 9” declared 2017 the Global Year of Service. The new year also began their official count toward completing 20 million service hours between now and Founders’ Day 2020.
