History of Basketball
Well you know a little bit on basketball. Have you ever wondered how basketball even started? Or who created it? Well I can answer that. The person who created basketball is Dr. Naismith. He made it to replace football in the winter. If it was to cold the football players can’t play. So they made a indoor sport. Basketball! They thought it would not last that long, but it became a worldwide sport. It is in the top three.
Girl’s and Boys Basketball
Girl’s and boy’s basketball are basically the same. They have all the same rules. I guess they made it the same unlike other sports like, tennis, lacrosse, and stuff like that.
In the 1920’s the World War 1 was occurring, and people needed activities to keep them on the positive side. “The invention of basketball wasn’t an accident. It was a development to meet a need.” -James Naismith. Basketball was just the right sport. It was a recent invention in 1891, and in the now it has become a college and professional sport. Many professionals didn’t go to college and didn't even compete in high school. That means that the men who went to play professional were not very experienced, so it was pretty rough. They were still the real pioneers of pro basketball. They made sure that they kept the score pretty close, so that way the fans would come back to see a interesting game. The games are largely disorganized, but it brought crowds of people to the cages or arenas. Basketball was a second tier sport, which meant that it would only be watched if football and hockey weren't on. Many people don’t see the game as an fun game to watch quite yet. Another reason for the low attendance, was tickets were one to two dollars per game, so many people could not afford to attend a game.
We can all agree that basketball is almost becoming popular around the world. So many people play this sport but do people know how basketball started and how it evolute throughout the years since basketball was borned? So like every other sports and creations, there has to be a inventor and in basketball there was a man by the name of Dr. James Naismith. “Created in 1891 in a Springfield, Massachusetts YMCA gymnasium has grown into a game played worldwide by more than 300 million people”(historybits.com). So this game has been out for a very long period of time with many changing of the rules in basketball throughout the history. When it was first played in the late 1800s, there were different rules and even different looking basketball. As for the rules, originally there would be 10 people on the court but it first started with 18 people on the court which after couple of years it changed to only 10 people. Substitution was also different and the rule for this was at first no one can enter until the next game. “The rule was changed in 1920 to allow a player to re-enter the game one time. In 1934, the rule was expanded to allow players to re-enter the game twice, and, in 1945 the rule was finally changed to permit players to return to the game an unlimited number of times”(hooptactics.com). The first basketball looked very alike a football but round. The backboards were made out of straight wood and the baskets were made out of peach baskets or square boxes. There was only
Dr. James Naismith was a physical education teacher, who is credited for the invention of basketball in 1891. Originally from Canada, Dr. Naismith was working in Massachusetts at a YMCA training school. He had to come up with a game that would keep students busy on cold winter days. Dr. Naismith used to play a game when he was kid called “Duck on a Rock,” which is the main foundation of his invention, basketball. Starting with nine players on each team and a soccer ball, the first game of basketball was played on December 21, 1891. Initially, only passing the ball up the court was allowed, not dribbling. The goal of the game, like it is today, was to try and shoot the ball into the basket which is attached to a backboard. Whichever team has the most points at the end of the game wins. The sport has developed many rules since the first game.
James Naismith or the founder of the game we all love, started it all with just two peach baskets and a soccer ball. Dr. James A. Naismith was a P.E. instructor who wanted to develop a game that would work on wooden floors and an enclosed space. Naismith was inspired by a game called duck-on-a-rock, the objective of the game was to throw a small rock at a “duck” placed on top of a large rock in an attempt to knock the “duck” off. After much thought and deliberation over the name and rules, the game of basketball was born in 1891. Dr. Naismith then went on to write a rulebook consisting of 13 rules and regulations to bring further structure to the game. These rules are still the foundation of the game of basketball we know today. After hearing of the new game of Basketball, the University of Kansas hired Dr. Naismith to launch the first ever basketball program.

According to Wonderopolis.org, Dr. James Naismith was born on November 6, 1861 in Canada. It was 1891 while Naismith was working as a physical education instructor at the local YMCA training school in Springfield, Massachusetts, when basketball was created. Naismith was being influenced by his boss to create a new indoor game that was able to provide an “athletic distraction”. The reason it needed to be played indoors was because they needed a game played during the winter that still required a lot of effort from the players. Naismith had been given a two week time period to come up with a new game to play. Wonderopolis.org says “He decided to invent a game of skill, finesse, and accuracy, rather than one that relied on pure strength.” Naismith said he was inspired by the child game “duck on a rock”. This game involves players throwing a rock at a duck perched on a rock. The first game of basketball was played on December 21, 1891. This game was played with a soccer ball,

Basketball are in Tamika Catchings family DNA, basketball genes were passed from her parents to her and her siblings Kenyon and Tauja. Although, they had lucky genes that blessed them with athleticism and height, Tamika as a young girl, knew basketball was going to be her game not because of the genes. Tamika and her sister Tauja often played each other in a competitive one versus one match in their driveway, which resulted in them yelling, screaming, and taunting each other. And, eventually, It may even have got to the point, where their dad would shout, “ That’s enough!” Then, her dad would take the ball away, but that didn’t stop Tamika, she’d still stay outside and continue to shoot and dribble with an imaginary basketball. Tamika was already “different” from the rest and her differences made her stand out. However, her differences weren’t always positive in others eyes. For example, Tamika wore glasses and she wore hearing aids because she had a hearing disorder, so kids at her school called her big box hearing aids. In addition, her hearing disorder affected the way she talked and she had speech problems. Tamika was set apart by other kids for how she looked and the way she talked, her struggle with the speech got to the point where they put her in speech therapy class, which caused more attention to her since she was pulled out of class in front of everybody. Tamika just wanted to fit in, so after trudging home from school, sobbing, she threw her hearing aids into an
