Dr. Sandra Nelson is an Associate Professor of Physical Education in the Spadoni College of Education at Coastal Carolina University. Dr. Nelson is seeking continuation of her status as an Associate Professor with tenure at Coastal Carolina University. Dr. Nelson received tenure in 1998 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2011. Nelson’s dossier in the areas of teaching, scholarship, and service, I am pleased to send this letter in support of Dr. Nelson’s post tenure review. Her overall performance over the past six years, since her last post tenure review, continues to be favorable in teaching, scholarship, and service. Over these past six years, Dr. Nelson has improved in the area of teaching over the last two years and in the area of scholarship over the past three years. She continues to effectively contribute through her service to the university, college, department, program, and the profession, as most notably as Program Coordinator of the Physical Education Program and Chair of the Public Relations Committee of the Southern District of the SDAHPERD. Dr. Nelson also has consistently provided professional development opportunities for her students through their annual participation at state and district level conferences. Dr. Nelson also received the 2013 SDAHPERD President’s Service Award. Since its inception, she has had her students participate in the Dalton and Linda Floyd Mentoring Program in order to provide them with an in depth experience of working one-on-one with “at-risk” youth. Since 1997 Diana DeGette of Colorado has been representing the 1st Congressional district. For the past eleven years she has represented the people of her district which includes most major parts of the city of Denver including “Englewood, Littleton, Columbine, Ken Caryl, Glendale, Cherry Hills Village, and Sheridan” This district in Colorado is entirely made up by an urban population. Jareek Monte’ Buck was born in Richland, Mississippi on September 29, 1982. He received his k-12 diploma with honors from Richland High School. After graduating from Richland High School he attended Alcorn State University, where he played college football, but finished his degree at Jackson State University, where he received a Bachelor’s in Biology with a minor in art. After completion of his Bachelor’s degree, he began his teaching career in Jackson Public School District where he served first as an Art instructor, After a few years Jareek Buck moved his educational interest towards science where he taught 8th grade science for several years. In a New York City school, there is a young, attractive teacher, who also doubles as the school’s football coach. This high school has the reputation for having one of the best football teams. The teacher/coach, Mr. Nelson, s close with several of the football players on his team. They often seek out his advice for various problems. There is a select “inner circle” who gets invited to Mr. Nelson’s house to watch games socialize. He is very flexible for changes in schedule when needed. He does not complain, if pulled for interviews during his exam time because he understands the changing demands of our office.
As we read through the case of Robin Henderson, we can easily understand that this woman had a rough childhood where both parents were abusive against her, both mentally and physically. Various methods of abuse from her family members led Robin’s psychical health to a few disorders, like dependency on alcohol and bulimia nervosa. Together with these disorders she had a suicidal mind and urge for hurting herself. Numerous instances of suicidal gestures and self-inflicting multiple cuts and burns made Robin’s consider her being “too dangerous” to public and herself. Hopefully, her family and husband were supportive and wanted Robin to get well as soon as possible, so Robin’s husband accompanied her to her first meeting
I have read multiple speeches that we were able to chose from for this assignment before I came across Dr. Luther Halsey Gulicks speech. This speech which focuses on physical training has similar foundational ideas as I do in my professional philosophy as a physical education teacher. I will give a brief overlap of Dr. Gulicks accredition , his speech and then talk about the similarities and differences between his philosophy and my own.
