Romeo and Juliet Have you read the dramatic romance of Romeo and Juliet? This tells the story of two families.. where two families named the Capulets and the Montagues have so bad of a feud that when two teenagers kids fall in love from the opposite families, they have to keep their love away from their family 's knowledge and risk everything, including their lives for a chance at their happy ending. The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, and the movie Romeo+Juliet, directed by Baz Luhrmann, both tell us the story, in two different styles about star crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet and how something so beautiful turned into a great catastrophe. I believed the movie was quite effective, but it didn’t quite live up to the original story of Romeo and Juliet, and there would definitely be things I would change about it. I am still arguing in favor of the movie even though because the movie included a funky twist the made it more interesting for kids to watch. I also felt like it made it easier and more fun for this generation to understand. I 'm going to be comparing what character? one character, setting, and what part? a part of the plot from the play and the movie of Romeo and Juliet. There were a lot of similarities and differences between the setting in the movie and the play. You could get rid of Romeo and Juliet. of Romeo and Juliet. Personally I liked the setting in Verona, Italy rather than Verona Beach, California. It was where it was
“I have night’s cloak to hide me from their eyes; And but thou love me, let me find me here. My life were better ended by their hate than death prorogued, wanting of thy love.” (Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, line 14-17) Romeo and Juliet first saw each other at a ball and fell in love right then and there, but they couldn’t be together because their family hated each other. This scene shows a mood of romance because they couldn’t see each other but they found ways to still be able to see each other.
In order to compare and contrast the play to the movie, first I will discuss the play .In the play there is a character named Romeo.Lovely Romeo wanted to marry Juliet and stay with her in Verona,Italy. But
Films and literature are some of the most popular kinds of entertainment today. What happens when a famous literary work is turned in to a popular romance film? A perfect example of this is the modernized movie version of everyone's favorite, Romeo and Juliet. However, many years before the famous movie remake was created, a different interpretation of the original Romeo and Juliet play was turned into a musical called West Side Story. Both are excellent displays of Romeo and Juliet in a more modern light, however, they have their own similarities and differences from each other.
Romeo and Juliet is a timeless story about two ill-fated lovers. Originally written by, Shakespeare, this story has been adapted by different directors who all commonly try to add their own unique twist to it. Two of the most prevalent adaptations of Romeo and Juliet have been done by Franco Zeffirelli and Baz Luhrmann, who have taken this love story to the big screen. Franco Zeffirelli’s movie, which was produced in 1968, is extremely authentic and stays true to Shakespeare's vision, whereas, Baz Luhrmann’s version produced in 1996, is contemporary and appeals more to younger audiences. There are various differences and a couple of similarities between Zeffirelli’s and Luhrmann’s movie versions such as the costumes, their interpretations of
The time period of the play and the time period of the movie are very different. In the movie, the prologue was on a T.V. screen and it was not in the play. Also in the movie, they used cars instead of horses to get around. In the movie, Romeo and his friends always smoked and would take drugs and they did not do that in the play. In the play, the different families owned castles and in the movie they own different businesses and buildings. They also had guns instead of swords in the movie. Also in the movie, they dressed more modern than they would have in the play.
Romeo and Juliet is a very well known book that is loved by many. There numerous movies done on Romeo and Juliet like Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 version and Gnomeo and Juliet. There are many apparent differences like using guns instead of swords and using gnomes instead of people. Although there are many similarities, the differences between Luhrmann’s movie and Gnomeo and Juliet compared to the play Romeo and Juliet are evident. The similarities between the movie and the play only go down to the plot and language.
In the play Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, we learn of the many hardships and highs Romeo and Juliet go through over the course of the story. The play Romeo and Juliet is based off two star-crossed lovers who are separated from each other due to a feud between their two families. Their love is so strong that at the end of the story Romeo and Juliet both end up committing suicide because they can’t live without each other. Whether it is problems with love, or them complimenting each other on how they feel about the other person, Shakespeare uses many literary devices to make the reader dig deeper into the context to find the meaning behind the sentence. Some of the literary devices are; similes, metaphors, and personification.
Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is a tragic love story where the two youths fall in love against all odds and tragically die at the end, defying their parents. Shakespeare conveys the thought of true love through his play Romeo and Juliet. Different performances can make the play relevant to new contexts because the performances may be set in different time periods helping the viewer understand the context of the play better because it was set in a modern era or because it was set in an older era. The directors who made a production of Romeo and Juliet helped recontextualise Romeo and Juliet from their point of view. The Zeffirelli production of Romeo and Juliet is set in the Elizabethan era, this production shows what the play would have possibly been like in the Elizabethan era. The Baz Luhrmann production Romeo + Juliet shows Romeo and Juliet in a more modern era, by doing so the audience may be able to understand the contexts of Romeo and Juliet better than the Zeffirelli production because the language may be easier to understand also the props and the setting Romeo + Juliet can make the play more relevant to new contexts. However, I think that the Baz Luhrmann production is easier to understand than the Zeffirelli production because Baz Luhrmann set his production of Romeo and Juliet in a different context that Zeffirelli.
The movies Romeo + Juliet (1996), Romeo and Juliet (1968), and Gnomeo and Juliet (2011), are all alike and different in various ways. The most notable difference is probably the different time periods set in these movies. For example, Gnomeo and Juliet seems to take place in present day considering the use of computers and newer Lawn Mowers. Also the main characters, Gnomeo and Juliet do not die in this movie unlike the other two. I feel like this weakens the movie because it is written as more of a kids movie. This movie is taken a lot less seriously than the other two, and stays untrue to the original story. The 1968 movie seems to take place in the 1590’s based on when the play was written and how similar this movie is to the play. This strengthens the movie because all the costumes match the language. It makes the whole movie look like less of a joke. There are some parts, like when Mercutio died, that weren’t taken very seriously. This somewhat weakened the movie but the overall story stays true and is very impactful. The 1996 version seems to take place in the 90’s since they modernized the movie, involving gangs and guns, but they still use Olde English in this movie. I feel like this strengthens it because it makes it more understandable for modern society, but weakens it because it seems like they are taking this movie as a joke too, if they wouldn’t have used Olde English, I feel like it would’ve been a lot better.
The play Romeo and Juliet has been recreated many times and each story changes the plot and certain feelings. The setting varies a lot in each movie, for example, the original version is in the 1400s and the Dicaprio version is in the 2000s, so a big time difference with all of them. Not only are the settings different the character can be interpreted in very different ways, like how you can compare Romeo and Tony from The original play and West Side Story, you can very easily see the difference in character development and personality. All of these movies essentially handle the same story differently but you can still easily see how they all come from Romeo and Juliet.
What if The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, wasn't a tragedy. The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, one of Shakespeare's classic plays and a timeless piece. As popular as it is for it's ending, we can't help but wonder if suicide was the answer to stop the family feud. I believe that this play wouldn't have been a tragedy if it wasn't for two lords, Tybalt, and Friar Luarence.
The scene that was most different between the play and the movie of Romeo and Juliet was how the two crossed lovers first met each other. In the play Romeo and the Montague boys find out about the Capulet party through a poor peasant who could not read the invitations. While in the movie the Capulet party is announced through a newscast over T.V. I think the director changed this so the invite can go more along with the time period of the movie. This could change how the viewers see it by making the invite less secret. Over a newscast anyone who was paying attention to the T.V. could of heard the invite. Another main difference in this scene would be Romeo and Juliet first seeing each other in the bathroom across a fish tank rather than across the ballroom in the play. This could take away from the romantic side of the two first seeing each other. In the play it seems Romeo and Juliet have more privacy when they first speak to each other. In the movie the two are getting on and off an elevator just not to be seen. This could add more suspense to the scene and make the viewers see the movie from a lofty viewpoint.
Till Death Do Us Part The feud between two families is shattered by the love of Romeo and Juliet. Romeo begins in a state of depression after finding that his one love, Rosaline, did not share the same feelings. Romeo goes to a party because he hears that Rosaline would be there, and thinks he can woo her. He does not see Rosaline at the part but something even better happens.
I greatly appreciate a letter which tells me of thy plan. It would have been disastrous if thoust letter had never arrived. Lives may have been lost if this missive had gone astray. I shall meet you in Mantua so we may avoid the mishap of sealing the county Paris’ love for thoust own. How art thou? My love wonders 'round this empty spacing longing for my wonderful Juliet. I pray that Benvolio is well. It is to be expected that after fair Mercutio's death we shall both be distraught, for he was our dearest friend since childhood. I hope my love can forgive me for ending Tybalt's life, I did it purely out of vengeance for my dearest Mercutio. I still love thee with all my heart.
