Dreams If you look up the definition of the word “dream” there are three different meanings of the word according to Merriam-Webster.com. The first definition is, “a series of thoughts, images, and sensations in a person’s mind during sleep.” This definition gives the word “dream” a positive connotation by using words like “sensation”. This meaning of “dream” does not mention nightmares or bad dreams, so from this definition dream sounds like a positive word. The second definition of the word “dream” is “something noteable for it’s beauty, excellence, or enjoyable quality.” An example of this word being used in a sentence is, “This new car is a dream to operate.” This version of the word “dream” sounds very positive and optimistic. Words that give this definition a positive connotation are beauty, excellence, and enjoyable. All three of these words have happy and cheerful connotations, which makes the word sound pleasant and joyful. The definition of the third form of “dream”, is “a strongly desired goal or purpose.” I think this is the most powerful definition of the word dream because of the words like strongly, and purpose.
