In a town of seven thousand, it safe to say everyone knows everyone. If you don’t directly know them, you know someone, who knows someone. That’s just the way small towns work. In my hometown of Woodland Park, Colorado everyone knew Paul, Alex, Nick and Kevin. If you didn’t know them explicitly you knew their siblings, best friend, their mom or had some other kind of connection to them. Kevin and I grew up together. Our older sibling were best friends so we spent a lot of time together. Our favorite activity was climbing trees. I can still feel the rough bark from the cascading pine trees scraped across my hands while the crisp autumn air whips across my already red cheeks. Kevin was sweet and soft spoken, but had a wicked sense of humor once he came out of his shell. I was …show more content…
Garrick, Drive Smart week was finally upon us. The initial anger I had felt vanished, but I was still disappointed that I was being limited. The week was running smoothly but the week’s event had stirred up unresolved feelings amongst my classmates. I will never forget sitting in Mrs. Becker’s medical terminology class listening to Joel Wooley cry. We had just returned from a safe driving assembly, and it unleased Joel’s feelings. Joel was a man’s man, he was over six feet tall, a football player, who was always smiling and making a joke. This outbreak of emotion was completely out of character. The way his cries echoed off the classroom walls was haunting. He sobbed at the loss of his close childhood friend. His breath would catch as if he wasn’t getting enough oxygen to his lungs then let out a long bellow. The entire room felt nothing but despair, myself included knowing that I had caused this pain. Joel was feeling this way because I wouldn’t let Drive Smart go. He was being reminded that he will never see Kevin again because I was being selfish. Here I thought I was helping by promoting a good cause, when all I was doing was hurting my
Jackie and I were now halfway to where Mike’s car wreck took place, on Highway 46. The accident must have been pretty bad because it was reported on the news, a rare case, I thought to myself. I prayed Mike was going to be ok. The drive felt like it was taking hours to get to the scene . I could feel the tension in the car growing. The fact that one of our closest friends could be gravely injured was a slug shot from a shotgun into our chests. Jackie was still distressed as she drove; tears dripped from her eyes like droplets from a cool water bottle on a hot day.
Going through rush week is never an easy task for incoming college freshman. Each night you go to both sororities, parties and try to pick them apart and get as much information from them as possible. Every night, the parties got a little more formal and by Thursday you only get to go to the sorority that wanted to learn about you in return. Throughout the week I went back to my dorm each night; to call my friends and family and gather their thoughts, as well as talk through my own, then I would sit on my bed and just pray that god would give me a good home with new sisters, But it all comes down to one final invitation.
Deej Logan was just like any normal high school girl. She woke up on her first day of school and combed her hair, picked out the “perfect” outfit and headed out the door. What she didn’t know is that after that day nothing would be the same. Nothing that day seemed to be going right. At school drama was swarming all around her, not exactly what she hoped the first day would be like. By the time the last bell of the day rang she was more than happy to get out of that school. She drove home as quickly as she could but as soon as she got home she realized that she had forgotten to pick up her sisters. “Great.” She thought sarcastically as she sat back down in her car and drove off. Just then she pulled out her phone to message one of her friends about her awful day. That one decision changed everything. Before she had a chance to send the message Deej veered off into oncoming traffic and was killed on impact.

Week one has passed by quickly! I think this week was very successful and I can say that I have learned many new things. This week has been an experience for me learning things about the business world. I am not a business major so I was not expecting to take these classes. I was assigned them, but have found them very beneficial. As I read through the first couple of chapters I read things I had heard before. This was a good thing that I could put the information with the terms I had heard previously.
My younger siblings were constantly screaming to get the attention of my parents. Every first day of school, other students looked at me weirdly once they found out how many siblings I had. I was embarrassed at first when I would talk about how many siblings I had, but I learned to grow with it. My neighborhood was often quiet, there were never any problems in the area, and I knew all my neighbors, which was great, especially during holidays. My next-door neighbors often threw parties or gatherings for holidays such as July the 4th, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s, which was fun for my family. They were always filled with positivity, which was seen through their festivities. My neighbors loved seeing the smiles on the faces of my siblings and I during any of their gatherings; my family has always had a close bond with them, and we continue sharing that bond with them, which I find really rewarding in a sense. My community was often connected; there were always events the city organized for everyone to attend, such as George Washington’s Birthday Celebration, which consisted of a parade and
Unfortunately for three teens heading back from a spring break trip were affected by the fatal driving. The driver, Shelby, was absorbed into the gps when she had realized she lost control of the vehicle. However Shelby didn’t die, her sister and two friends were the individuals who were sorrowfully killed by this accident. They all attended the same high school, impacting their classmates immeasurably. Not only did shelby’s driving outcome get to her, but it had a ripple effect. Family members, friends, classmates, and even just locals from the town felt the

My 20time is on running. In sixth grade I tried out for track, hoping I will be fast enough and would make it. But it didn't turn out that way. It was at lunch with all my friends when I checked the track website and didn't see the name, Carly Jakob, on the list. I was so shocked i started bawling my eyes out. After this traumatizing day I made a goal that I will make the track team when i'm in eighth grade. To do this I knew I had to make many drastic changes. I changed my diet to proper eating habits, and learned facts about form and technique that would help me get through the horrifying try outs and right onto the team.
In “Propaganda Techniques in Today 's Advertising” by Ann McClintock, the author discusses how Americans are being brainwashed by advertisements and the different techniques they use to catch our attention. Ads are simply everywhere we look, it is impossible to get through the day without seeing one. All advertising companies put tons of research into how consumers spend money or even vote. Once these companies finish their research, they create advertisements that appeal to the masses. The basic propaganda techniques that McClintock writes about are Name Calling, Glittering Generalities, Transfer, Testimonial, Plain Folks, Card Stacking, and Bandwagon. Each one of these propaganda techniques is used in specific ways by advertisers to sell their product or service to consumers. I have selected a political ad which uses the Glittering Generalities technique, a coffee ad that uses Transfer technique, a soda ad that uses the Testimonial technique, and a soup ad that uses the Name Calling technique.
It’s me Miles, and I am just making this letter to tell you how great America really is. But first let me tell you about myself.I am 5 feet and 8 inches,I have brown hair and blue eyes, and I was born and raised in Ireland.I decided that moving to America would be a easier life, not only were my friends were leaving but my sister also decided to leave. The one big push that made me leave was how expensive my land was and I was falling behind on rent.I had heard from my sister that land there was cheaper and I just had to leave.I also couldnt afford enough food for a couple weeks and was practically starving myself. The journey here
Drive- Drive starts at 7:50 and ends 8:05. If you get breakfast then you eat it in Drive, usually when you eat it takes up half of your time in drive; so you only get 10 minutes to eat since Drive is short. MY drive teacher is Ms. Childs and Mrs. Welch.
Opening my eyes, I look over to my paper thin tv for the time, noticing that I still have 30 mins till I have to get up I doze off into a soft sleep. Awaking from the blaring noise of my alarm I get up to brush my teeth. As I walk over to the wash bowl, where we wash our hands and brush our teeth, I reach over to grab my toothbrush off it's charger. As I was brushing my teeth, I noticed that it was almost time for me to leave for school. I searched around my closet for a shirt and some jeggings, my usual wardrobe for school, I head towards my broke in tennis shoes. Heading downstairs, I grab my computer holder and my headphones and head for school.
Shopping for car insurance is one of the least popular activities for car owners, since it can be a very long, boring, and tedious task. It doesn't involve just calling up the first insurance company in the phone book and taking their offer, but involves shopping around through various companies and requesting a free car insurance quote. Since car insurance is required for almost every licensed driver in the United States, it is important to shop around for the best deal on the best type of coverage.
