Intro: The aviation industry has come a long way from the Wright brother's first flight at Kitty Hawk. Today aircraft have become much more sophisticated, to the point that they can fly themselves. All these technological advancements have led to the creation of aircraft that have no human pilot in them. Unmanned aircraft have become more common and famous in recent years. UAV's have become more popular now, with this new popularity comes increased use. UAV's have had several lasting effects on the Aviation Industry. To Begin with UAV's have promoted many non-military uses for aviation. UAV's have also made getting into aviation more affordable and accessible to many more people. One negative of UAV's is that they have created confusion in …show more content…

They have become more affordable and easier to use as well, which is what's attracting many people to them. With this surge in popularity has come the realization that the skies and the FAA, have not been set up to have drones flying around with all the other aircraft already occupying the skies above us. With the growing popularity of drones, dangerous cases of near collisions with other aircraft are rising. Incident such as on July 6 when two "drones flew too close to a police helicopter (...) flying near the George Washington Bridge [New York]" (CBS). The police helicopter was forced to dodge the drones in order to avoid a collision. Other incidents include these "Two different commercial airliners came within 100 feet of unmanned air vehicles (UAV) when landing at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport"(CNN). Drones are clearly not being monitored enough if they can get this close to an airport. There is a great danger to airliners if drones continue getting so close to them on landing. The problem with drones right now is there really isn't enough regulation by the FAA. The FAA publication on drones states that "Not later than 270 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Transportation, in consultation with representatives of the aviation industry, Federal agencies that employ unmanned aircraft systems technology in the national airspace system, and the unmanned aircraft systems industry, shall develop a comprehensive plan to safely accelerate the integration of civil unmanned aircraft systems into the national airspace system" (FAA sec 332). The FAA has real regulations in place for all the different types of UAV's that are out flying today. The FAA is testing and planning the integration of UAV's into the already busy skies. Once this plane is completed then regulations will be set in place to ensure the safety of all aircraft. However for a plan to be developed and implemented
