suggestions and education because it is whether they choose to be in a gang, they choose to try a drug, they choose to take a sip of alcohol etc. Decision-making is the most important role in anyone’s childhood. Whether they are curious what certain substances may feel like or want to feel included or a part of something. Another important role is one’s youth social influences. Is that youth hanging around with the right crowd? Whether they play on the playground or hang by the bleachers smoking. Kids that are associated with other kids that do drugs or drink alcohol can lead to bad influences. Parents are also an important reason why their kids may be trying different substances because they may not have total control over their children and may not care. Many children today, have parents that do not care when their child will come home at night, may not care what they eat, what time they go to bed or who they hangout with. Parenthood is a very significant role in any of their child’s childhood and upbringing. Although Drug Abuse Resistance Education is there to educate young children and teach what the right choices you should make when offered a drug, alcohol, be in a gang, a smoke and many other potential dangers, it does not work on all children due to their decision-making influenced by the social factors, environmental factors and parenting.

If we can work together in society to better educate the actual physical effects that drugs have on an individual and step away from the typical drugs are bad we might be able to educate enough youth to make them not want to except drugs even for that first time before you realize that that’s all you needed to lose control. Life is a choice however some choices come with irrevocable consequences and drug abuse and addiction is truly one of these choices. The question you can ask yourself is where will you fall in this choice? It can be the best decision you make in your life or the worst.
Euphoria, pain, fun, to experiment, to improve emotional states, to feel safe, to “fit in” and peer pressure are reasons why people use heroin and other drugs too. The earlier you try this drugs, the earlier you get sucked in this hole of addiction screaming, wanting to get out. Users can stop a first time by putting their anger, sadness, and pain into something else that can help take you down a path of success. Writing your feeling in a journal, talking to someone, taking a walk and doing something with your family are some solutions. Early adolescence is where drug talk should be taught, at school when children and teens are still learning. Middle school and high school is where kids start to growing and maturing more wanting to try new thing and to fit in and “be cool” thinking drugs and alcohol are the answer. Teachers , parents, and health professions should talk to children frequently to help shape children and spread the dangers of using heroin and other drugs. When I started researching this assignment I found many drugs (legal and illegal) that may be commonly used, misused, or abused by my future students. I became overwhelmed; however, I started remembering about an article that I read in my local newspaper. This article discussed how methamphetamine has become a prevalent issue in many small communities. I also found a statistic that blew my mind and made me want to research this drug because of the effects it may have on my potential students’ life and learning. According to the United States government, reported in 2008, approximately 13 million people over the age of 12 have used methamphetamine (Foundation for a Drug-Free World, n.d.). That is a lot of young lives being touched by one
Research shows the young adolescents who are exposed before 14 years of ages are more likely to develop dependence or addiction to the substance used. Another primary protective prevention method is by good and strict parenting. Parents should be able to monitor their child’s activities or influences to prevent experimentation of substances and also strong close family bonds (Ford, 2016). Support from the family members is very critical in the preventive precautions of a child. Because again one of the major factors that lead to substance about starts at home. Parents must be present throughout the childhood years to guide and orient the child.
Drugs are not good for anyone but they can affect teens the most, due to the fact that their body is still growing. This is why teens can not drink until the age of 21, when the body is done developing. Not to mention, the drugs will damage their brain, heart, and other organs, including that some drugs can give them a heart attack. When teens do drugs, they are less able to do well in school, sports, and other extracurricular activities. This is usually how teens drop out of school due to poor decisions and lack of care. Teens usually go through phases in their life, like going through the phase of trying to fit in or feel temporarily numb to the feeling or because they may be depressed. Drugs will not solve your problems, In Fact they only cause problems on top of the ones you already had. This is when their body becomes addicted that without the drug, they cannot function correctly. Many teens still in school usually start smoking, or using snuff that contains the most addictive drug in the U.S, Nicotine. By the same token, many harmful chemicals are in Nicotine, including: Carbon monoxide, Cyanide, Ammonia and 4,000 other chemicals, them being some of them. Although Nicotine isn't illegal, if over the age of 18, it is still very harmful and it can lead to illegal Drug use if not careful. The only way to stop teens from falling into these
Society doesn’t usually think of drug addicts as “good people” and they end up losing their respect and reputation as they grow up. If these teens and young adults don’t change who they are when they are young, they won’t be able to fix themselves as they grow older which can be a bad influence. Bad habits start as a kid and if you don’t change those habits you won’t be able to when you get older!
The best way to stop students from using drugs is random drug tests, locker searches, and drug abuse programs. Drugs are becoming worse and worse every year. Teens hurt in trouble, hurt and sometimes get killed because of drugs. Schools can always try to stop drug use and save teens.
It has been discovered that most people who struggle with drug addiction began experimenting with drugs in their teens. Teenage drug abuse is one of the largest problems in society today and the problem grows and larger every year. Drugs are a pervasive force in our culture today. To expect kids not to be influenced by the culture of their time is as unrealistic as believing in the tooth fairy (Bauman 140). Teens may feel pressured by their friends to try drugs, they may have easy access to drugs, they may use drugs to rebel against their family or society, or they may take an illegal drug because they are curious about it or the pleasure that it gives them.
