"International and Domestic Terrorism Organizations and their supporters engage in a myriad of crimes to fund and facilitate terrorist activities. These crimes include extortion, kidnaping, robbery, corruption, alien smuggling, document fraud, arms trafficking, cyber crime, white collar crime, smuggling of contraband, money laundering and certainly drug trafficking."
-- Steven C. McCraw, Assistant Director, Office of Intelligence, FBI, May 20, 2003
In 2002, the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy spent more than three million dollars to buy two commercials for the Super Bowl (Bovard). One of the commercials viewers posed the question of where terrorists get their funding. The answer suggested by that commercial was

Terrorism, according to the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, is “the unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons” (Follendore). Terrorism was more myth than reality for most Americans until the attack of 9/11. The act of terrorism is meant to subdue societies with fear but it is impossible to instill fear without tools. Without capital, terrorists are unable to act; even terrorists are reliant upon money. Since their country of origin dislikes most terrorist groups, it is hard to set up businesses and become successful independently so an outside income source is required. Drugs and drug trafficking are huge moneymakers that are also tax-free. The drug trade is cash-based and full of money. James Bovard says in an essay that “because narcotics are illicit, they tend to attract violent, ruthless people and organizations to carry out their production and marketing.” Further he says, “groups that specialize in violence—such as terrorists—take to drug trafficking like a duck to water” (Bovard). Drugs are present and fairly common within the United States and if drug sales are reduced, terrorism will diminish over time, unless it finds a new
Drug cartels have arisen as a major crisis for the future in the Americas. Individuals indulge themselves on drugs for many reasons such as tradition, attempting to escape poverty, and generating revenue for rebellious activities. Drug trafficking has proven to be ludacris, with the increasing involvement of corrupt government officials in their distribution. The UN has stated the approximate estimation of profits of drug trade is roughly around $150 billion alone in the Americas, which accounts slightly less than 5% GDP. Currently the most common way of drug transport is land through Central American countries like Mexico, and it eventually crosses over the border to the United States.
The war on Drugs played a heavy role in minority American society. It affected policing and most importantly the American minority people. The war on drugs started by President Nixon and up until President Bush was a disaster that affected America with high incarceration and high recidivism rates for low level and non-violent drug offenses that mainly targeted minorities in America. The war on drugs was a massive American failure that mainly affected minorities. President Obama and his drug reform alongside the American public’s strong opinion to switch towards marijuana reform which we see in places like Colorado and Washington has caused the war on drugs to lose steam. The American public’s decision for drug reform is no surprise after nearly 40 years of the unsuccessful war on drugs.
Organized crime and Terrorist groups are very similar in many ways. They both are structured with well thought out organization and are multi-leveled, just like a corporation would be. Both are involved with illegal business activities. This includes the smuggling and selling of drugs, kidnapping, and human trafficking. The members of the groups are normally deviant with their behavior. They consist or aggressive, violent, and dehumanizing natures. They feel satisfaction from killing innocent people and striking fear in the individuals that oppose
Drug trafficking in the United States has established itself to be one of the most profitable businesses in today’s world (U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, 2004). There is such a high demand as more people buy, use and sell drugs for a variety of reasons, not really knowing all the risk that are at stake. With new laws in affect and more determined citizens of the U.S. everyone can help keep the streets clean. Drug trafficking is at an all-time high and must be brought to a halt.
Around the 1900’s the United States was being flooded with multiple feelings, which created an ongoing battle between tension and morals. These conflicts contributed to what is known as the “noble experiment”, which involved alcoholic products. These continuing conflicts left the population feeling unstable. Instead of dealing with these problems at hand our nation decided to turn to the state for a helping hand. Struggling with a mass immigration increase and the rise to industrialism and capitalism was hard enough on our own, but we also had to somehow stabilize the nation’s social order to prevent further social conflicts. Due to slightly failing on stabilizing our social order our nation’s society decided to campaign against alcohol and start the nation’s first narcotics war. By doing this it was believed that the overall rate of corruption, violence and crime would decrease and solve our social problems. Looking back on history, the way things occurred shows that this time it was more than a slight fail.
“International terrorism is Perpetrated by individuals and/or groups inspired by or associated with designated foreign terrorist organizations or nations”
Griselda Blanco was born on February 15, 1943 in Cartagena, Colombia. As a little girl her mother Ana Lucia Restrepo raised her in a city called Medellin in which is located in Colombia. At age 11 Griselda, allegedly kidnapped, tried to ransom, and eventually shot a child from an upscale flatland neighborhood near her own slum neighborhood. At age 14 she was reported to have run away from home and she stated that her mother was physically abusive. Since she run away from home at an early age she resorted to prostitution. Around the age of 20 she meet Carlos Trujillo and had three sons Dixon, Uber, and Osvaldo. Later on she remarried and had a fourth son with Alberto Bravo who then decided to move to the United States. Around the 1970s and
Unfortunately, I’m unable to determine which gang or narco-terrorist is the most notorious because they are all on totally different levels. For example, the street gangs such as the Bloods and Crips are terrorizing neighborhoods and they are mostly seen in low-income areas. These gangs tend to recruit at an early age such as teens who are looking for a family environment, have been bullied or a for income. The gangs are known for selling drugs, sex, and many crimes more so against each other. They are both very territorial which means that are certain areas of their neighborhoods that claim to own and they even mark their territory with colors such as red that is mostly known by Bloods and blue that are mostly worn by Crips. For any individual
The War on Drugs has been a common phrase in the United States for many decades. What exactly does this mean and how does it shape U.S. foreign policy? The War on Drugs can be defined as the systematic and aggressive policy that is determined to undermine and stop the flow of illegal drugs into the United States. This policy is backed by several U.S. institutions including the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), U.S. Army, U.S. Coast Guard, and U.S. Customs. Also, included in this list are the numerous local law enforcement agencies across the country.
Joints blunts pipes bongs vaporizer and edibles are just some ways to get the feeling of getting high today in America people are voting whether or not to have marijuana legalized My legalizing marijuana the drug War in Mexico Will weekend there will be an improvement for federal and state tax revenues And less the crime rates will go down.
Sub details-In some cases those who are smugglers all begin by taking drugs and the reason they might have taken it is because they in some type of way felt pressured by their so called “friends”.
Terrorism and crime are positively linked according the Steven McCraw, Assistant Director of the Office of Intelligence with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. McCraw. gave testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee in Washington DC stating that International and Domestic Terrorism Organizations and those who support them, engage in a myriad of crimes to fund and facilitate terrorist activities. These crimes include numerous deviant acts such as extortion, kidnaping, robbery, corruption, document fraud, arms trafficking, cybercrime, white collar crime, smuggling of contraband, money laundering (McCraw, 2003). Money and financing from drug trafficking most certainly are at the root of all the crimes being plotted and commit by top terrorist
Drug trafficking has become an increasingly growing problem in the world today. Illegal drug trade is a worldwide black market consisting of production, distribution, packaging, and sale of illegal substances. Although today’s "War on Drugs" is a modern phenomenon, drug problems have been a common problem throughout history. The market for illegal drugs is massive, when we consider the estimated global drug trade value is worth $321 billion (Vulliamy). The most drug trafficking happens on the border between Mexico and the United States. Former Mexican President Felipe Calderon said, “Our neighbor is the largest consumer of drugs in the world. And everybody wants to sell him drugs through our door and our window”
Terrorism has been a major concern for the United States government for many years. Citizens of the United States have been immune to the terrorist attacks that are taking place overseas. When The World Trade Center was attacked using a car bomb in 1993, terrorism was brought upon the door steps of Americans. What was once a headline on the daily news has now became a reality in the life of the American citizen. An essential element in the strategy for the war on terrorism is to dismantle or disrupt the financial network used by terrorist. After the September 11 attack the Federal Government took several steps to combat terrorist financing, resulting with "More than $140 million in terrorist's assets have been frozen across the some
Another prominent form of terrorist funding is through charities. Americans are kind to a fault, the average American gives to some charity, unfortunately some of these charities are a false front for terrorist organizations giving the money donated directly to support terrorism (Gennarelli, 2015). The greatest way to prevent terrorist activity in the U.S. is to sever the means the means of financial support. Every American can do their part in defunding terrorism.
