Assignment 1
Research and produce a checklist and evaluate your current learning and teaching environment in relation to it for –
a) Inclusive learning good practice
b) Opportunities for learners to practise Literacy, Numeracy and ICT skills.

Inclusive Learning

Inclusive learning is as Wilson (2009) states is “about creating interesting, varied and inspiring learning opportunities for all learners; ensuring all learners contribute and are never disadvantaged by methods, language or resources”

at the beginning or end of a lesson as recap or during a lesson to reinforce learning. Another benefit of this technique is that involves the “shy/quiet learners” and will ensure that every learner is “kept on their toes” as at anytime they can be asked a question.

Thankfully, the ICT industry and the teaching involved means that using the nominated questioning can be used at the leisure of the teacher and in fact can be incorporated into session plans quite easily.

This is the one technique that cannot be “over-used” in my opinion as it can potentially lead to other inclusive learning techniques such as discussions and exercises. However, a drawback is the timing of this technique, I have found that the “graveyard” sessions are the ones where the responses will not be as detailed and cohesive such as using at Monday first thing to recap last week or Friday afternoon to recap the whole week. As a teacher I have found that persistence is the best solution here and no matter what the time is, as teachers you have constantly reinforce the information they have learnt back to the learners.

The best part of this technique is when the learner reflects another question back to the class and the teacher. This is a demonstration of the learner processing the information and thinking ahead and probing for more information.
