Du Bois : An Important American Thinker

W. E. B. Du Bois was an important American thinker, philosopher, poet, economic historian, social critic, and sociologist. His work challenges our own categorization and how we see each other in society. The article focuses merely on Du Bois ' contribution to philosophy. The reader must keep in mind throughout reading the article that Du Bois is more than a philosopher he is a countless social leader. His extensive efforts all seem to come down to one common goal in the article, the equality of colored people. His philosophy is significant in today’s society because it addresses what many individuals would argue is a real world problem of white domination. As long as the racist white privilege occurs, and defeats the hopes, dreams, and freedoms of human beings, so long will Du Bois be relevant as a thinker. Du Bois more than anyone else used his thought in the service of exposing the white privilege, and he even worked to eliminate it in the service for a greater humanity. Du Bois ' philosophy, as well as many of his mechanisms and articles, underlie and support the larger social target. He then later on in life turned to communism as the means to accomplish uniformity for all individuals. He proposed communism as a humanity that encouraged the well being of all its members, not singling out the whites, blacks, or anyone else for that manner.
