According to our textbook, educator’s behavior should reflect such vales as tolerance, compassion, forgiveness and open-mindedness. As an educator you are held at a higher standard because you are to be a great example or model for your students. According to 6A-10.081 Principles of Professional Conduct for the Education Profession in Florida, there are many actions a teacher should not do. One of them is getting intoxicated behind a wheel. If an educator violates any of these principles shall subject the individual to revocation or suspension of the individual educator's certificate, or the other penalties as provided by law. In my independent research, I read an article called “DUI Impact on Teachers” and it states that many employers are nontolerant of drugs and alcohol. If a teacher is arrested for a DUI, many school districts see this as unprofessional and irresponsible and will eliminate the teacher’s job.
This unfortunate situation can be a violation of the law, the code and the school district policies. The law clearly states that you shouldn’t get behind the wheel if you are intoxicated or you will be arrested for a DUI. The code of ethics states that if you violate any of the rules you can lose credibility towards your students, parents, co-workers, employers, and the community. Many …show more content…

The negative consequences for the student is that they will see a teacher who is a hypocrite and doesn’t follow the rules herself. The negative consequences for the community is that the school will lose their credibility of being a “drug free school” (most schools have this logo on campus) and the parents will wonder if the school is doing their job at hiring the best teachers for their
