DUTCH LADY MILK INDUSTRIES BERHAD. 1.0 COMPANY PROFILE. 1.1 Background. Dutch Lady Milk Industries Berhad (“ Dutch Lady Malaysia) was incorporated in 1963. Besides being a leader in the quality branded dairy business, it was also the foremost milk company in Malaysia to be registered on Bursa Malaysia, the local Stock Exchange in 1968. Royal FrieslandCampina is its holding company which is a Dutch multinational corporation and among the largest milk companies in the world. The second largest shareholder in its company is Permodalan Nasional Berhad. Through official Milk Collection Centres (MCC), sixty per cent of milk produced is collected and sold while the remainder is being sold directly from farms or through local vendors. The domestic dairy manufacturers have used around 65 per cent of milk from the milk collection centres. b. Dairy Project Scheme (DPS) Through the Department of Veterinary Services, the Malaysian Government supports and subsidizes the dairy industry in Malaysia. In the late 1980s, the Dairy Project Scheme (DPS) was introduced to aid small- scale dairy producers in producing and distributing their milk and in inducing rural development (Wells, 1981). The dairy industry has developed since then. c. The Ninth Malaysia Plan (2006- 2010). In the Ninth Malaysia Plan (2006 -2010), the Malaysian government planned to increase self sufficiency by expanding domestic dairy production using large scale commercial farming and value adding processes (Warr et al, 2008). Hence, the dairy industry should also focus on developing consumer value chain besides increasing its production capacity (Boniface et al, 2010). Besides that, the government has directly invested in farms, promoted dairy products in schools and restricted the import of dairy products.
