If either of those were not up to standards, then the whole business model would collapse and prove to be unsuccessful. Some professors would chose based on which publisher they favorites the most or had been loyal to in the previous years. Other professors wanted cheaper books so that their students would not be required to pay more and have a higher chance of actually purchasing the material. Another trend Lindsol analyzed was that most professors were unhappy with their book selection after purchasing the book and using it for courses because the material was either outdated or not relevant anymore with the school's curriculum. In order to enter the market successfully, Lindsol realized that it would be very difficult due to the fact that original editorial business model had been successful for forty years but had failed to stay current with today's technology.
Crafting the Strategy
Lindsol had to identify problems in the industry and realized that there were several core reasons students did not like the shift publishers made from hard copy to electronic PDF files. The main reasons collected by college student surveys was that the devices used to read the books were cumbersome to use, they lacked tools like highlighting, and they preferred having a physical hard copy of the books for them to take notes.
