During this report the demonstration will establish an awareness to the audience, which discovers the statics and findings of the results based on samples from a mathematical strategy perception. This possibly identifies the conclusion of the significant evidence of exposure with the amount and levels of unwanted consumption of E. coli in the Village of Sierra Leon’s drinking water. During the 5 weeks the missionaries have to achieve safer drinking water for the village, through three types of sampling using one hundred for the first and second tests, and twenty for the final evaluation. The population discovery consists of various elements such as the mean, median, and mode. That offers presentation for the average center tendencies. …show more content…
Meanwhile solving a problem pertaining to the health and safety of the villagers based on evidence and facts from numerous collected data and samples. The missionaries agreed to assist while understanding the significance to sustain reliability based on the eight guidelines when collecting data. The mission should select a preference of sampling to alleviate risk and/or bias sampling. They should present fair resulting by properly measuring the variables of interest. However, they should be taken measures to prevent confounding variables through evaluating the average or change from previous, existing and future assessment for clean water observations. The focus must consist of identifying the goal, the population, and what type of study. The goal is to supply clean drinking water to a village in Sierra Leone populaces, and determine the amount of E. coli per ml of the village drinking water through equality, experimental, mathematical perspective, and sample testing. Upon arrival, the missionaries take the initial sampling assessment. It indicated that the first sample group mode is higher than both the mean and the median, which suggest the villagers don’t have access to clean drinking water. The second sample group can be considered participates of statics sampling vs population
2. Why do you think Mrs. Garner's students did not become ill, while Ms. Hines' kids did?
AIM – The aim of the experiment is to determine the relative effectiveness of several anti-microbial substances on developing pathogens. (E. coli)
Having had the chance to travel to some the most primitive areas around the world for missions work, lack of clean water affects the health and hygiene of a people. Improper disposal of human waste and trash are key contributors to water contamination in underdeveloped countries. “In 2016, 143 communities and 57 schools received clean water in Sierra Leone, Kenya and Uganda” (“2016 Annual Report”). Organizations, like The Water Project, are making great efforts around the world to make a difference in these areas by installing wells and providing water purification systems. Until the proper infrastructure is in place, bottled water is the perfect stopgap. Bottled water can provide those living in these unreached areas a way to get their daily intake of water without fear of sickness.
Escherichia coli O157:H7 causes 73,000 illnesses in the United States annually. A review of E. coli O157 outbreaks reported to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to better understand its epidemiology. E. coli O157 outbreaks revealed that in that period, 49 states reported 350 outbreaks, representing 8,598 cases, 1,493 (17%) hospitalizations, 354 (4%) hemolytic uremic syndrome cases, and 40 (0.5%) deaths. Clinical laboratories began examining more stool specimens for E. coli O157. In 1994, E. coli O157 became a nationally notifiable infection, and by 2000, reporting was mandatory in 48 states. Escherichia coli O157:H7 was first recognized as a pathogen in 1982 during an outbreak investigation of hemorrhagic colitis.
Escherichia Coli, located in one of the main organs known as the large intestine, is a type of bacteria that helps digestion. (Trzepacz, Timmons, and Duobinis-Gray, 2016) For Escherichia Coli to remain stable and alive, it needs specific necessities. These needs are known as the following: Energy, vitamins, and similar compounds. Escherichia Coli is found everywhere!
I believe that in the verge of realization, in everyday life’s undertaking we are facing and practicing statistics. I was being into a serious dedication of understanding the underlined concepts of statistics and the necessary usefulness in conducting a survey. In fact, throughout the course, I did learn many factors that became useful in contacting a survey research. according to Walker et al. (2011). However, my success could not be possible without the appreciation and support of my teachers, discussion groups, and class presentations.in addition, the misguided notion of statistics being a tough course was proven otherwise since I realized that statistics make a lot of sense not only in survey research in personal life, especially in budgeting and planning for individual routines. Furthermore, the following paper provides a vivid explanation of my reflection of the survey class, with more attention paid to the concepts of statistics.
At the end of 2006 both Iowa and Minnesota suffered an out break of E.Coli from Taco Johns. The restaurants that were affected were in Cedar Falls, Albert Lea, and Austin. In December of 2013 Iowa health officials recorded that at least 50 of its residents became ill with E. coli and 27 from Minnesota. January of the following year the Food and drug administration stated that the FDA was close to identifying the source of the E. coli break out. According to the FDA 81 individuals became ill. 26 of those ill were hospitalized with E. coli infections and two even developed hemolytic uremic syndrome.
2. List what it is caused by (specific scientific and common names of the organism: Escherichia coli
I had recently experienced the terror that is referred to as E. Coli. I can tell you all about how it is much worse than the flu, although I will also be talking about this one girl I stumbled upon on the internet also. She had a life threatening experience that you can definitely experience if you go untreated when finding out that you have E. Coli. She had it for 19 days straight when I had been extremely lucky that I had only had it for eight days. I know that I definitely did not feel lucky, but doing this project has let me realize that I was very fortunate. Some people just chalk it up as the stomach flu like my mother and aunt did, but my grandmother knew it was something more than that. She ended up taking me to Med Express which is not a very good place to go if you want to get a work release on the same day or week by the way. On top of the issues I had at the doctor it was nonstop viral- like symptoms that only got worse until they got better.
Two out of every five people living in Sub-Saharan Africa lack safe water. A baby there is 500 times more likely to die from water-related illness than one from the United States. This is a serious ongoing issue that requires the rest of the world to take action. Water spreads diseases easily if the necessary precautions are not taken. Many developing African countries don’t have sewage treatment, or the people don’t have methods to filter and disinfect. Once a person is sick either there is no way to cure them, or medical care is too expensive, so they are left untreated with a high risk of death. Although many believe that the fight for sanitary water in Africa is insurmountable, people in these developing countries can overcome their challenge to access clean water and avoid water-borne diseases through proper sewage treatment facilities, universal water filtration and medical care.
There is a bacterial infection affecting a large percent of band students at Truman and Jackson Middle School. The type of bacteria is E. coli.
Most of the country believes in Christianity (“The World Fact Book: Samoa,” 2017). The first thing that the mission group is going to focus on is providing water-filtration system that cost 617.18 WST for the villagers. The mission group is looking at local purchasing water-filtration systems and installing them on three hundred homes. Homes will be chosen by how close relatives live near the selected home. Using the Samoa social dynamics the water filtration systems will provide clean drinking water not just for the occupants of the house but for family members as well (“The World Fact Book: Samoa,” 2017). Once on the ground the mission team can talk to local contractors to look into a better system than a house filtration system. Using some of the money that was in the saving account there is the potential to upgrade a village water purification system. The potable water is becoming a health concern for the local population and the CDC advises tourist to only drink bottle water and eat food only prepared with clean filtered water (“Travelers’ Health,” 2017). Polluted water comes with several dangerous bacterial infections. Typhoid has been on the raise in the recent years due to the amount of polluted waters increasing (Luh & Bartram, 2015). If potable water was not a big enough problem for villagers they also have to deal with soil
There are many types of bacteria. Bacteria are a large group of unicellular microorganisms that have cells walls but lack organelles and an organized nucleus. Some bacteria can cause diseases that are becoming resistant to antibiotics. One of these bacteria is Escherichia coli. If garlic can prevent the growth of E. coli, a special of rod-shaped, facultative anaerobic bacteria in the large intestine of humans and other animals, it might prevent the growth of other bacteria (WebMD, 2010).
It was hypothesized that the mean of ¡¥Low¡¦ group would be lower than ¡¥Accurate¡¦ group as participants filled in the questionnaire, they were given example of lower (50%) figure. They believed that the examples
In this lab experiment, students had to create a growth curve for E. coli. The E. coli growth curve would illustrate the progression of the population of E. coli a set time period. In this case, the growth curve depicted the population of E. coli over a 12-hour period. The growth curve for E. coli was created from the absorbance levels, the optical density(OD), recorded from the spectrophotometer.
