An experience that has made a profound impact on my life was when I directed and completed a community service project to fulfill a requirement for the Eagle Scout Award in the Boy Scouts of America. In order to competently act as coordinator for this service project, I had to develop both my interpersonal communication and leadership capabilities to a proficient level. Besides improving my professional skills, this project gave me the opportunity gain hands on experience working with groups of people who had varying skill levels. So, not only did these skills allow me to complete the project successfully, they have also proven incredibly useful throughout my academic career.
Using the personal management skills from this project, I have
While going to college I got to have the experience of a lifetime. Myself, and a group of 15 others went on a mission trip to New Orleans, Louisiana. We all got to see many cultural differences and help people in need. Helping people in need just
The most powerful learning experience I had was in second grade when I was acting out in school over not having a family structure. My teacher kept talking to me about making better decisions and finally she submitted my name for the VIP of the month and I was able to eat lunch at a special table with her and the principal. I don't remember her name but from that moment on I knew I mattered enough for someone to notice; so I should make good decisions and from them on I was a model student.
After I attain the rank of Eagle Scout, I will continue to strive for more achievements and work towards completing other goals so I can become a model member of society.
This experience led me to carry out several ventures. One of my first ventures was helping in food bank where I helped to pack food and transport it to several organizations and people in need. was hard to balance my school work with volunteering since I had to go in the evenings, but I developed the grit and passion to work hard! I started feeling a sense of accomplishment and gained responsibility.
The experience I chose that was significant to me is the year I joined my high school's robotics team and how it changed me as a person, my team name is Team 51 The Wings of Fire. Team 51 The Wings of Fire is an FRC hall of fame team who competes in many events with robots who are designed by high school students to play a given game. When I began my 9th grade year at International Technology Academy I wanted to join but instead I played JV and a small amount of Varsity basketball for Pontiac high school. I didn't join until my 11th grade year. When I joined I had no idea what to do or what I was doing, but I didn't just give up I stayed determined and willing to learn how to do as much as possible in that one year that I could. When
An experience that has impacted me in the past two years was the annual tradition at Farmington Public Schools called the diversity conference. I’ve gone two years in a row and I can honestly say I love it. At this conference you get split up from your friends and get grouped with people of all different races and ethnicities. By doing this activity, I feel like the directors of this conference want you to get out of your comfort zone, be more social, and meet new people that you’d never consider talking to. I would say that I’m not the most outgoing person but this conference has changed me for the better.
For instance, spending time volunteering at the local food bank, the community health auxiliary, and the local Sikh Society chapter in my community. This interaction allowed me get a better understanding of those economically marginalized. Further, I was able to get a grasp of some of inequalities and disadvantages in our community in the aspect of health care and the importance of what change needed to occur those less privileged. These experiences inspired me to undertake more global pursuits as an international humanitarian volunteer in orphanages and community schools in
For example, I have had the opportunity to learn the importance of leadership and planning. This past summer I was asked to lead a direct mail marketing campaign which involved determining the mail population, ordering the required materials, and hiring the temporary help to execute the campaign.
Two special circumstances exist regarding my application - I am applying as a junior in high school, and I live in Spain. This is my second time living abroad, and these overseas experiences allowed me to mature beyond the typical individual my age. My leadership skills developed earlier than most as I earned my Eagle Scout at an early age. I have continued to grow through participation in Scouting, Red Cross volunteer work, a trek across French glaciers and the Swiss Alps with the Youth Leadership Camp (through the Navy Moral, Welfare, and Recreation Program), and being an active member of both the National Honor Society and the International Club. After returning from Japan in middle school, I enrolled in a Japanese language class with high-school
The experience I have valued the most thus far is my participation in Leadershape. I grew more as a person and as a leader in those 6 days than I had my entire first semester. At Leadershape, I was able to connect with dozens of other Smith students who also want to change the world. While there, I was pushed to figure out what my passions and values were. I was encouraged to think about the traits and factors I stand by and use to make my choices. I participated in simulations that tested those values and was able to further identify what is important to me. Leadershape was a life changing experience for me and I fully believe that if not for my participation in that, I would not be as effective of a leader and communicator as I am today.
What is the hardest thing you have ever had to do in your life? For myself, it was getting my Eagle Scout award. Now for those who don’t know what an Eagle Scout award is or means I will try and explain it to you. An Eagle Scout award is the highest rank possible in Scouting. In order to achieve this rank, you have to complete seven different ranks, along with other different requirements along the way. The basic requirements that you need in order to get an Eagle Scout rank are, twenty-one different merit badges (eleven required and ten unrequired), complete all of the classes, carry out a project that benefits your school, community, or church, and do this all before your eighteenth birthday. Trust me when I say this, it’s a lot harder than what it seems. Only about 5% of Boy Scouts get their Eagle Scout award. I came so close to becoming part of that 95% who didn’t reach this goal. I procrastinated so long that I didn’t complete my project until one week before I turned eighteen.
One event that has impacted my life in the past would be going to become a State Tested Nursing Aide.. I went to Central Ohio Technical College in Coshocton County during the summer of 2014. I was the youngest in my class of eight, which was very intimidating. Shawna Dew taught our class for about twelve weeks including our clinical and lecture days. During lecture days, we would go over topics such as precautions to take overall, whether that would be referring to the resident’s room or the residents themselves. Clinical days were my favorite by far. They were toward the end of the class and went over resident care, transferring, weights, vitals signs, etc. I enjoyed the clinical days more because it was hands on. We actually got to put everything
This is an experience I never thought I would have but it’s important because It helped me change as a person and to not take things for granted and work hard to achieve things you want my thoughts about school changed because I remember complaining about getting homework even though it's only a few hours of homework but now I know things could be much worse and that I am happy that I only have four homework assignments instead of ten I learned a life lesson that if you work hard enough you can achieve
I don’t really have an experience that had a great impact on me but I think I achieved something in my life, which is maturity. I was super shy and I’m the most awkward person ever, well even though I’m still shy and awkward, I can say for sure that I’ve matured a lot. First, when I was in elementary school, I really cared about what people thought or said about me, I had low self-esteem that I had been trying so hard to change till I went to junior high school. As a result, I wasn’t able to wear what I wanted when I went out with my family or friends.
Most people have some sort of experience or memory that has had a profound impact on their life. A parent passed away, a competition was won, or an obstacle was faced. My most impactful experience is much simpler, yet just as important as these moments. Summer camp. I know, it does not sound like anything big, but my years at a small summer camp in Maine made me who I am today.
