CHS Volleyball Defeats Holcomb, Falls to Hugoton The Lady Eagle volleyball team took a road trip to Holcomb last Thursday in order to compete against the Lady Longhorns and the Hugoton Eagles. Colby was victorious against Holcomb, but fell to Hugoton after a tough three set battle. Holcomb started out the first match by taking the early lead but it was soon broken by sophomore Hallie Vaughn with a powerful cross court kill. This momentum was continued by an kill and ace from senior Kora Schindler, who also helped the team out with her valuable middle blocking abilities. Their high energies sent them to a 25-20 victory over Holcomb, giving them a good idea of where they currently stand in the GWAC league. Colby and Hugoton were well matched in height and ability, which made for an exciting round of sets for both Eagle teams. Hugoton came out hot and took the initial lead 8-3. Colby rallied back after a powerful kill from VanEaton and two aces from Vaughn. Despite mighty swings from Hugoton’s hitters, Colby was able to keep the opposition in check with their blocking. Gifted with height, Colby’s 5’10” Carrie Meyers, 5’11 Bryce Brown, and 6’2” Schindler slammed down over seven blocks over the duration of the set. Once again, Colby started the second set out from behind, falling quickly 5-2. Once they got back into the groove, the game went back and forth point for point due to a slew of service errors and misfired spikes. Hugoton pulled eventually pulled forward with a seven point lead, but it didn’t last long. Not a team for giving up, Colby pushed ahead and tied the set 22-22. Colby couldn’t quite seal the deal and lost the set 25-22, sending the teams into a third
Freshman Cody Crowder’s single put runners on the corners, and an error on a sacrifice bunt scored Zapata. Trinity then threw an error trying to turn a double play to allow another runner to score, and Guin’s two-out single put 11-0.
Centenary (1-1) tied the game in the fourth inning and the YellowJackets stranded base runners in the fifth and sixth inning.
Facing a two-run deficit, Haley Kodama had a two out, RBI double in the sixth to cut the deficit to 7-6. Then, the Wildcats added to their lead with two more runs in its half of the sixth inning for 9-6. In the seventh, Miller hit a two-run home run to make it a one-run game with none out. A fly out, strike out and line out ended the comeback
Morales had to be strong as Adam Polansky matched him, pitch-for-pitch, through the first five innings. He allowed one unearned run and two hits before Altamonte Springs broke open the game with five runs. His pitching line was not indicative of how well he pitched, and he took a tough loss.
Tied at two after an inning in game one, the Ladies scored two in the second and two in the third to open up a 6-2 lead. With two outs and no one on in the second, infield singles by junior Payton LeBlanc and sophomore Haley Campbell put two on for senior Anna Dunn. Dunn doubled to left center to clear the bases and put Centenary up for good.
This game started off as tough as they come both teams getting good looks, and making their shots. We were all waiting to see who was going to go cold first. With Centenary leading game two 10-8 in the top of the seventh, sophomore Kylie Bradley blasted the first pitch she saw over the leftfield fence. However, Grambling State answered with three runs of its own to tie the game. With one out, McKenzie Johnson homered and Kenyshae Beasley singled. She stole second and scored on Mercedes Williams double. Tia Coleman followed with the game-tying single, but did not advance past first after sophomore Mackenzie Stewart struck out the final two hitters.
Freshman Wendy Gillet appeared on the Second Team as a First Baseman, while classmate Nichole Aldridge (pitcher), sophomore Michelle Tasin (second base) and senior Emily Sexton (outfielder) were named Honorable Mention.

Hughson would have a great start putting in a total of three goals in the first half as Iliana Gonzalez would put in two of the three goals which would come in the 16th and 29th minute in addition to Jessie Lawrence’s goal which would start off the scoring in the 12th minute,while Summerville would have a pair of late goals coming from Madison Mitchell coming in the 32nd and 33rd minute ending the first with Hughson up 3-2.

Cronos, by Guillermo del Toro, is a Mexican film about the lengths in which one would go to be granted immortality. Throughout the film, there are many nods to religion: the main character’s name is Jesus, there is a side character that wears a cross, and a significant portion of the film is set during Christmas. These homages to religion (Christianity in particular) could be emphasizing how religion is a major part of Mexican society. There is also a scene, near the beginning of the film, that shows the streets of the town where the movie is set. What is noticeable about this scene is that del Toro does not show a pristine street, but a messy street.
In order to fix our increasingly inefficient and divisive immigration system, we need a president who has this issue as a top priority. Hillary Clinton, a current United States presidential candidate, has immigration as one of her defining issues accompanied by a feasible and realistic policy. One of the most important holidays in Mexico is known as Día de los Muertos otherwise known as Day of the Dead. This holiday is represented as the day of remembering the dead, but in a very different way. They celebrate the lives of the ones they lost during this day. For example, they go to their loved ones grave with food, music and other objects that represented the deceased life. The history of this holiday dates back three thousand years and is still evolving. This holiday involves a lot of culture and tradition that represents the people and their ways of life.
