I wear three hats in my place of work: I am a lead teacher for my site, an early childhood Educator, and a Parent Educator. The role of the lead teacher is to support the mission and standards of the Early Childhood Family Education Program (ECFE). Lead teachers help determine strategies for reaching standards and facilitate the work of the site to meet the standards. I am enrolled in EEC 3214 class this semester; the class is called designing and implementing a blending curriculum: birth to age eight. My future plans are to graduate from College of the Ouachitas with my Associate of Applied Science degree in early childhood education and then transfer to Henderson State Unversity to major in Human Services. My Early childhood education degree is my backup plan. I will always have something to fall on. No, I do not plan on teaching elementary school.
I love being an Early Childhood Educator. I love working with kids. I love seeing kids grow and learn. However, it can be challenging being an Early Childhood Educator as this career requires Early Childhood Educators to be invested in early care and learning for children. I believe that Early Childhood Educators deserve better pay as it can be mentally as well as physically and emotionally demanding each day to be an Early Childhood Educator.
Early years practitioners should be aware of the developmental, learning and care needs of children in their care. By completing regular observations on the children, talking to the parents/carers and looking out for any changes in the children’s behaviour, I can ensure that I am aware of a child’s changing needs. Throughout my observations and discussions with parents/carers I must be open to the possibility that a child in my care could have a safeguarding issue. It is my responsibility as an early years practitioner to attend safeguarding training and to keep up to date with new legislation and guidelines.
