Early College High Schools (ECHS) are innovative high schools that allow students least likely to attend college an opportunity to earn a high school diploma and 60 college credit hours. Early College High Schools:
The Early College Alliance prepares students to go even beyond college. They offer classes that equip students with the knowledge they need to do many important things (like managing a budget, for example). They teach values in these classes that other schools don’t, and I think that is amazing.
In the article “Two Years Are Better Than Four” author Liz Addison writes about how community college is a forgotten option for many students in America, and that it is not well advertised like the universities are. She writes about how community college is a great option for students who need a less expensive option, but still want a chance to further their education. Addison also writes about how they allow everyone to attend so you can “just begin”. Community college is a great option for many students because it allows for an affordable option for students to continue their education.
One of the biggest decisions a student has to make is deciding the college they should choose, a university or a community college? At the end of their high school years, a student must decide what college would be best for them. If they are fortunate enough not to have to go to work and wait to go to college, then they must make a decision. There are many advantages and benefits of attending a community college. Students should carefully weigh the advantages of each college, as there are many pros and cons of both. As both of them provide a number of choices, it makes a student's decision very exhausting whether a community college or university best fits them. As there are many advantages attending a community college, tuition is a big factor, as it is only a fraction of that at a university which makes it much better to choose a community college to begin your college career.
Attending a community college has several benefits such as the low tuition and book fees, smaller classes, and experienced teachers at an affordable cost. In this two year period students also have the time to mature and get serious about their career before they get into the four year institution
Higher education is good for many things in today's world. College experiences help people to truly find themselves through personal growth. Higher education will expose you to people, ideas, and topics that you would never encounter in high school. Each year of college assists in
Its great to start taking college courses, which are offered through a student's local high school, so that he or she may better understand what college will be like. Along with this, when taking courses in high school, students often get a bargain, for these class credits are usually much cheaper. Yet, taking early college classes also have some negative aspects. First of all, because these subjects tend to be harder than regular high school classes, they could give students the wrong idea of what college will be like. Second, a student's overall high school Grade Point Average, (GPA), may suffer, if the student is not quite ready for college level studies. Nonetheless, by taking early college classes, students are able to take advantage of an excellent opportunity to work on their first college level subjects, in a more familiar and less threatening high school
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” This quote from Nelson Mandela always clicked with me, because while many things can change the world, education is always at the root of it. The Ottawa County Early College program is an opportunity for me to practice with this essential tool. I feel that I am a good fit for the program because I have passion for my studies, am proactive in them, and I flourish under challenge. This amazing program excites me because it will help me to achieve my overall goal for my education; to positively impact the world. While I have many different ideas with what I want to do with my education, Early College will allow me to explore many different paths within a budget I
I believe that Polk County Early College High School would be a great school for me because of smaller class sizes and more one on one opportunity with teachers. I feel that I thrive in that kind of setting because you can feel free to ask for help if needed, and it will be provided much more easily than in a larger class room. I also love the opportunity that the school provides to be able to earn college credits while attending high school. I am a very self motivated person and being able to complete work at my own pace would be significant. If I am working at my own pace I will be given the chance to work ahead and cover more material which is great. I think Polk County Early College would be the perfect school for me because I would be
The biggest reason the Jackson Early College Program would benefit me is the cost-effectiveness of the program. As a high school senior, I would be able to attend college courses anyways. However, with the Early College Program, I would be able to attend classes at a reduced cost. Despite the availability of scholarships, I do not qualify for many of them and I do not qualify for many grants from the government either. College is becoming increasingly expensive and being able to save even a miniscule amount of money is incredibly beneficial to me.
Many believe that students should pursue a four-year education or nothing at all, but for some, a two-year education is also suitable. Liz Addison insists that community colleges should be seen as a viable option following high school. Community college acts as a stepping stone for students to get more out of their schooling and work experience. If a student chooses to, enter a two-year college first, they are often better prepared for a four-year college Addison claims. Attending a community college before a liberal arts college allows a student to take, for example, their first college-level English class and psychology class, growing more with every course to prepare them for further education. The community colleges “offer a network of affordable future, of accessible hope, and an option to dream,” Addison asserts. This option gives the students who are unsure of what they want a chance to receive some sort of college education and find what interests them. Furthermore, it gives students who otherwise would not be able to afford a higher education to still attend school post high school.
I would really like the opportunity to attend Wake STEM Early College High School. When I attended open house I saw that the students were interested in the same kind of things as me. They were excited about learning and working on projects together. That is the kind of school where I could work best. I have wanted to be a Mechanical/Computer engineer for as long as I can remember. STEM HS would be a great start on the way to a good engineering school. The 1.5 - 2 years of college credits would help my family tremendously by saving a lot of money.
Wake STEM Early College High School will be very beneficial to my high school and college experience. Being able to take college classes in high school is not only great as I will gain college credit in high school, but simply being accepted into this school looks great on a college resume for North Carolina State University, or any other college. I would love the environment of smart, friendly, hardworking people, where we could all help each other to receive the best education possible. This school will challenge my academic abilities, but also doesn’t compromise my ability to be in a sport. Wake STEM Early College High School will be one of the best schools to help me unlock the best and highest of my academic abilities.
I believe that the early college program will help me to both get a head start and acheive my career choice of becoming a veterinarian. The program will also help me to gradually adapt to the college lifestyle rather than having to jump right in after senior year not knowing what to expect. Early college program would be a good fit for me as an individual because I am highly self motivated to complete my pre-veterinary studies by the end of my thirteenth year. Both staff and student would agree that I am very soft spoken but I believe that the program would help me to open up and gain self confidence. attendance are of importance to me because I do not want to fall behind in my classes. This is why the early college program would be a good
My Decision-Making Report is intended to convince the director, Linda Autrey, about renewing the Early College High School program. I am a current member of Early College High School and noticed the changes in the program as the years passed. Due to all of the changes, the program soon stopped after the 2019 class. I believe that it should be brought back because it’s a great program that comes with many benefits and can save a student thousands of dollars.
