Since September 2010 all three to four-year-old children have been entitled to fifteen hours of free nursery education for 38 hours of the year.
Early years education can take part in a variety of settings these include state run nursery schools, nursery classes and reception classes that are run in schools as well as privately run nurseries, childminders and voluntary preschools.
In 2014-15 the government introduced a scheme where disadvantaged two-year-old children are able to access free early years education.
All providers must adhere to the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (2008) which is a single regulatory and quality framework for the provision of development, care and learning for children in registered settings from birth
