Eastman Kodak Case Study The case study presented for us of Eastman Kodak is a perfect example of a once-great company that fell to its successors in a field that the company had essentially created. As such it provides insight into how even strong companies with thoughtful executives can run afoul of the business environment. The case study presented here is relatively simple. A company that has once defined the technological direction of a field falls behind its competitors as they in turn redefine the field. Of course, although this is not covered in this case study, the same dynamic will make these successors vulnerable to being overcome in their turn. The factors that came together to fell the photographic giant are not uncommon in analogous in situations in which one company has held a dominant position in a field for a very long period of time. This company could have been the first major company in the field or simply a company that built up dominance in the field. In this case Kodak had developed most of the key technologies of modern photography and the quality of its products as well as the skill of its business strategies had allowed it to stay ahead of any upstart competitors along the way.
