Making education events, talks, programs and workshops can give students a deeper understanding of eating disorders. In particular, students can know more about what are different types of eating disorder, the causes and consequences them. Knowing the consequences will have a deterrent effect on those who wants to lose weight. Besides, if students know the symptoms of having an eating disorder, such as skipping meals or avoiding social events, they can better recognize those who needs help and direct them to dietitians.
Besides, these events or programs can also use as a mean to prevent female college students from developing an eating disorder. For instance, teaching college students to do proper meal planning and provide healthy recipes

The website would offer an anonymous online screening for college students to screen themselves. This program can quickly help students to determine if their recent behaviors and thoughts are associated with eating disorder. The questionnaire is highly confidential and after student finish the questionnaire, the website will then automatically take the student to appropriate resources according to their result. For example, giving recommendations, where to reach out to a dietitian or mental health professional for further evaluation and
Thesis Statement: It is important to understand eating disorders and the types of eating disorders to overcome them and seek the proper treatment.
Nowadays, when people emphasis more and more on healthy lifestyles, both exercise and food intake have become a big part of the consideration. With the goals of being fit and losing weight, some people eat irregularly or do not eat at all. As a result, eating disorders seem more often on news and reports. However, some people still view it as a joke. With the increasing number of people diagnosed with eating disorders, people should raise awareness on the effects of eating disorders and treat them seriously.

In my research, I explored the world of eating disorders. I wanted to see if there was anything specifically encouraging eating disorders and if there was a way to stop it. Eating disorders affect the community greatly because often times, they go unchecked or unrecognized. As a recovered anorexic, I feel it’s very important to address this issue. It’s a very big problem that is often not addressed at all, or is seen as normal, like counting calories. I hoped to find a way to improve the way that eating disorders are viewed and explain to people about what defines an eating disorder, because many people will never know if it is not explicitly explained to them. My study’s purpose is to bring light into the dark world of eating disorders
Specific Purpose: I will inform my Communications 1101 class about three different types of eating disorders so they become aware of the significant effects that result from these disorders.
Being overweight, eating poorly, and not exercising are becoming an epidemic in America, especially among college students. Most of the research on it states the same things, however the first research article I found speaks more to the behavior and its current affects on college students’ health. A slew of doctors and Jesse S. Morrell wrote an article about “Risk Factors Among College Men and Women” in relationship to obesity. The opening of this article stated that “an estimated 300,000 deaths each year are attributable to obesity… and young adults have experienced dramatic increases in obesity rates,” (Morrell, 2012, pg. 82). This statistic is what really got the research going and helped the researchers focus specifically on college-aged individuals. Upon diving into their research, the authors found more alarming statistics and related diseases. This included a recognizable relationship between obesity in young people and chronic disease risk, especially diabetes and cardiovascular disease (Morrell, 2012, pg. 82). In fact, CVD was the second leading cause of death in the US in that college-age group showing that our generation is at a greater risk for health problems than ever before due to our lack of exercise and healthy diets. Researchers then took to college campuses to examine students and their habits and provide risk assessments to promote healthier lifestyles and hopefully decrease the probability of CVD and DM through the metabolic syndrome system,
The educational event is Eating Disorder Treatment Panel that was organized by J.A.D.E, Marilyn Magaram Center, and SDFSA. The presenters are Mor Volner (RDN, MS, IBCLC), John Siritaranukul (MS, RD), and Heidi Favia (MA, MFT Intern). The presentation is about several aspects of eating disorders for both RD and MFT. RD’s talked about their role in eating disorder, which they teach their clients about general education and intuitive on eating. RD also described how meal plans works in their facilities, for example food exchange program: switch out 1 kinds of food each meal for carb, starch, etc., wanted them to listen to their internal feeling, and teach them what amount of food is enough. RD also help client clear their mind to help them nourished
Weight gain is a serious problem among college students. Weight gain causes a lot of stress that can effect a person on how they live and how they view the values in life. With every choice they make, it can directly relate to how they are feeling, which is effected based on how they are feeling on their body figure. This is why diet plans or diet routines are very popular among college students because they will
Obesity has risen over the years. The United States now has one of the highest obesity rates. Bad eating habits are usually the cause of this pandemic. For the past few decades, college dorm foods have led to these habits. The more unhealthy food choices are, the harder it is for people to resist these foods. Colleges serve a variety of unhealthy food in their dining halls that contributes to students’ lower GPA. By eating healthier, students can maintain a healthy weight, focus better in school, and increase their school performance to a higher grade point average (GPA).
The presentations will be submitted with the flyers I create for advertising, audience evaluation forms, student self-assessment, the talking points created for the presentations, and any pictures or other handouts created. The nutritional handouts created will be submitted, along with a reference page of resources used to create the handout. I will submit pictures, meal plans, and recipes for all cooking demonstrations I assist in. I will submit case studies with patient health information removed, blank documents pre-created by Positive Nutrition for clients to fill out prior to arrival, and the signed HIPAA agreement. Factual information collected on how insurance companies view eating disorders in relation to payment for treatment and a list of at least three treatment options available for eating disorders will be supplied. The meal plans created and the guidelines for creating meal plans at KSU, will be submitted. All six objectives will be supported with individual preceptor evaluation
In many communities through-out the nation, individuals who are living with eating disorders is at an all time high. Although there are many resources available to aid individuals battling this disease research states many don’t seek out the help. Some resources might include individual therapy, group therapy as well as family therapy. Having an eating disorder can affect an individual both mentally and physically and require in most cases a team of trained professions to tackle the
Another prevention program that has been explored is a single 3-hour workshop entitled “Should I Say Something?”. Gratwick-Sarll and Bentley (2014) conducted a study to evaluate the effectiveness of this program aimed at improving recognition, knowledge, attitudes, and helping behaviors for participants to assist individuals with a suspected eating disorder. This program aims to reach the social network of individuals experiencing eating disorders. According to Hart, Jorm, and Paxton (2012), “Increasing the capacity of the social network is [therefore] likely to be a more effective strategy than increasing the knowledge of individuals with eating disorders alone” (p. 2). Part 1 of the workshop focuses on presenting participants with
Our curriculum is largely responsible for triggering and facilitating eating disorders among teenagers. Teachers don’t notice, or don’t care, when students show signs of an eating disorder- this allows it to progress even further. Teachers talk about eating disorders like they’re hush-hush, or avoid the subject all together. When taught about eating disorders in health class, it can trigger eating disorders within students.
Starting a new chapter in life, which could lead to an important transition in one’s life can be overwhelming. Many college students may encounter a great deal of stress and anxiety while trying to balance school, social life, and physical activity. However, it can be shown that when college students are put under pressure, instead of letting steam off with some physical activity, they may indulge in foods (Lattimore, 2001). Going to college is an
The main focus of this research is on freshman who are newly transitioning from highschool to college. The objective of this research is to measure possible reasons why students are gaining a substantial amount of weight while they are currently enrolled freshman year of college and how that weight gain can influence and increase the chance of diseases in their lives later on.
