33.8% of Adults in the United States are obese and 17% of children and adolescents are obese. The main cause of this is from developing unhealthy habits. Creating healthy habits and keep up with them regularly will tremendously improve health. Healthy habits will help people feel better about themselves and will help them live a long, health life. Eating healthy, exercising, and getting good sleep regularly are healthy habits that people can develop to improve health.

More than 30 million people of all ages have eating disorders in the United States and every 62 minutes a person dies for an eating disorder. Obesity in the United States continues growing alarmingly. Approximately 66 % of adults and 33 % of children and teenagers in the US are overweight. Obesity is the result of fat accumulated over time due to the lack of a balanced diet and exercise. An adult with a BMI (body mass index) higher than thirty percent is considered obese (Whitney & Rolfes, 2011, pg. 271).
Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric illness. 30 million Americans suffer from eating disorders and hospitalizations for eating disorders have increased by 24 percent in the last ten years.
I have learned the importance of eating a balanced diet, and have learned that when you eat a balanced diet your body receives the fuel it needs to manage your energy level. By researching nutrition value, I have also learned that what you're putting into your body( the foods you put into your body) can also greatly impact your mood, including the fact that what you eat has an impact on your brain, including the parts that regulate mood. I have learned that Foods rich in vitamins and minerals, such as fruits, whole grains and vegetables, have been associated with an overall lower risk of depression, as have foods rich in omega-3 fats, such as nuts, salmon and other fatty fish. Another things I have learned by performing this project is the importance of healthy food in order to maintain a healthy weight/body. I have learned that foods are important sources of mineral compounds and nutrients required for a healthy body. I have learned that nutrients in healthy foods also have vital nutrients that strengthen bones, muscles and tendons and regulate body systems such as blood pressure. I have also learned that these foods are also rich in fiber, which may reduce the risk of heart disease, obesity, and type 2 diabetes.
