People are conditioned by the society they were raised in believe that eating meat and other animal products is okay; when better lifestyles are available, that is veganism and vegetarianism. Vegans are vegetarians who also abstain from eating or using all animal products, including milk, cheese, other dairy items, eggs, honey, wool, silk, or leather. Although many individuals tailor the guidelines above to fit their own moral, ethical and individual beliefs, and many different categories of unique diets have come about from the freedom of defining personal standards. A plant-based diet is not only nutritionally balanced and beneficial for the individual, but is environmentally protective while also caring for innocent animal life. Plant-based diets are lower in calories, saturated fat and cholesterol than diets containing meat, unless it is heavily supplemented with processed foods. Disease and illness can be treated and prevented through removing meat from an individual’s diet along with bettering an individual’s overall health short term and long term. The majority of the antibiotics and hormones are forced into livestock to increase their rate of growth, and allow for more unsanitary conditions. All of these are being consumed by the people who eat them which with the rise of antibiotics resistance it is creating treating these more difficult and less effective.
