4.1 – On average, how many high and low tides will a given spot on the coast experience in a day, and why? A given spot on the coast will experience two high and two low tides each day. High tide occurs when the Moon and Earth are facing towards each other and away from each other. Low tide occurs when the Moon is facing the Earth at 90˚ and 270˚.

The species randomly settle throughout the rock. Both species are settled at the bottom and top. They settle on same parts of the rocks as the other species did. There is more of an abundance of the Chthamalus than the Semibalanus. On day 28: On day 28 there is a large abundance of both species however, they have established the area in which they will settle. The Semibalanus have a large abundance between 0-2 m and scattered abundance above that height. The Chthamalus have a large but more scattered abundance between 2-5 m.
General Observations: Between day 8 and day 14 the Semibalanus start settle lower on the rock and there are none above 4 m. The Semibalanus start to settle mostly between 0-2 m and few Chthamalus are settling in that range. This occurs during neap tides. After day 14 the spring tide occurs and some
