Efren Medina was born June 5, 1940 in Leon, Nicaragua. Medina studied at the School of Fine Art in Nicaragua under Rodrigo Penalba. Medina claims Penalba ¨taught me how to bring my work alive with texture and color¨. Medina says he gets his inspiration to make his paintings from events that have happened during his lifetime. Most of his paintings though are of the female face, boats, the guapote fish, bulls, and fish. Medina likes to brag about that every single president of Nicaragua since the 1970s has a painting done by Medina hanging in there home. Friedrich Froebel, a German educationalist, was born on April 21, 1782 in Oberweissbach, Germany. When he was only nine months old, his mother passed away.
