Could it be true that more people live in poverty today than at any point in the last 50 years? An editorial from the USA Today website titled Feeling poorer? You have plenty of company. presents that exact argument. The following evaluation of this editorial will look at the strengths and weaknesses of their argument. If the editorial’s argument is properly presented, it should provide adequate reasons that support their conclusion, refrain from using any hidden assumptions, abstain from any ambiguous or slanted words …show more content…

The information in this editorial is mostly true, and presents it’s argument with integrity. They avoid contradictions in their reasoning, and maintain a steady opinion of where the problem came from. One can assume from observing the author’s tone, that they are of the opinion that government needs to change it’s ways. Truthful facts are presented to support this opinion.
This editorial from the USA Today website presents a solid argument that there are more poor people today than there was fifty years ago, and they give good reasons and facts to back it up. As was covered in this essay, it provides reasons supportive of the conclusion, generally avoids hidden assumptions, abstains from prejudicial words(with the exception of one phrase), presents reasons without fallacies, includes most of the important information, and presents it all using integrity and without contradictions. There is no doubt we are facing tough financial times as a nation right now. However if we can all look at the big picture, we should realize what this argument presents is true. Our government and society need to change their ways if we want to mend the problems we have been dealing with the last decade.
