An individual's experience of transitions into new phases of life and social contexts. These transitions can be seen as milestones that lead to short term and long term changes, and can be challenging, confronting, exciting or transformative, and may result in a positive development, change an individual’s perspective and a range of consequences for the individual and others. Through our study of educating Rita and master and commander we explore how communication can shape, transform, challenge attitudes and beliefs - we will develop our understanding of how social context of individual's interaction can affect perception of ourselves and others, relationships and society. In “educating Rita” we live through the struggles of Rita a Strong willed ,passionate woman as a working class hairdresser that feels that life has passed her by, seeking a higher education and to explore what life has to offer, And Frank a Man born into a higher class privileged lifestyle, and higher education but sees little incitement in the world around him. other forms of transitions can also be seen in the film master and commander, Director Peter Weir uses 'Master and Commander' to challenge our perspectives on how we balance two of humanity's strongest drives, discovery and power. Know like I’m doin’...tryin’ to do. Do you think I will? Think I’ll be able to do it.” Rita is both full of zeal and ambition, but still unsure of herself. She states emphatically that she wants to change, and recognizes that she has taken the steps to do so. However, she is still hesitant, and asks Frank his opinion on whether or not she can do it. This changes later on, especially in Act II. By then Rita has become more sure of herself, which creates a rift with Frank. Rita’s confidence is directly linked to her education, as well as a result of her desire to evolve and
Life is what you make it as we go through life’s journey. We all have different experiences that are unique to us individually. “Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.” - Virginia Satir. There are typical aspects of our journey that are similar, but different; we share commonalities along the way with others. In life, we will face challenges that bring about change, which is what happens to us along the way when we are younger, and it makes us who we are when we are older. Change is the opposite
Timid and shy, Annelle was not very open in communicating with Truvy. After Truvy critiqued Annelle’s work, Annelle began to open more and communication between them got better as time went on. There was a lot of lateral communication that occurred between Truvy and Annelle because Truvy was so down to earth and didn’t want Annelle to look at her as a boss, but as a friend. Since both Truvy and Annelle were both hairstylists, they were able to communicate in a way that did not cause for one to dominate the other. The relationship between the two was also a mentoring relationship. Mentoring is when a partnership between an experienced individual –the mentor– helps someone who is less experienced–the protégé, (DeVito, 2015, p.274). Truvy was an experienced hairstylist and Annelle had just graduated beauty school. Though she had learned much from beauty school, there were tips and tricks she learned from Truvy that could not be taught in school. As stated in our textbook, mentoring is perhaps best characterized as a relationship in which the experienced and powerful mentor empowers the novice, giving the novice the tools and techniques for gaining the same power the mentor holds, (DeVito, 2015, p.274). This can be observed by the end of Steel Magnolias when Annelle is doing other character’s hair as they chat in the salon. Annelle is moving without hesitation. She is multitasking and

The following project, will address the case of Rita and Christiana C . after concern was provided by a neighbor, who reported that 2 years-old, Christina, seemed underweight, neglected and presented facial bruises. She is cared by her currently unemployed single 19 year old mother, Rita C., in a one bedroom apartment in a lower-income neighborhood of Pleasantville, CA. Under these circumstances, a caseworker was assigned by Child Protective Services to visit the home in order to identify the potential impacts and implications for the developmental growth of Christina C. In order to advise Judge Thompson, this project will focus on providing careful explanations that describe the familial and parental characteristics of the socio-cultural environment that favor the removal of Christina from Rita 's custody, followed by the explanation of why the attachment between the parent and child provide reasons that are against the removal of Rita 's custody of Christina, to end on a recommendation on which course of action will best benefit the child.
Recently, the class watched the movie “Dan in Real Life” and many people would be surprised just how much of this movie relates to what the class is currently learning about. For example, there is the use of nonverbal communication, the use of interpersonal communication, and the use of many other types of communications that are all found throughout the movie.
Certain films evoke an emotion in you. Whether it being happy, sad, scared or even angry – movies have a way of teaching us new things about ourselves and even the world. I, myself, often find myself trying to piece together what types of roles individuals play within society, regardless of if it is a film or real life. We all have these roles and functions that determine how we will act, what we will do, how we will react, and who we will interact with. These are all things that we want to know about someone, not only out of curiosity but so we can predict how others that do the same will also react. The movie, Divergent, which is based on the three-novel series by Veronica Roth is one that showed me how society functions from a

New stages of life can often introduce change within a persons and cause them to reassess who they are and what they value. These changes can surface due to transitions faced by the individual and new relationships formed during this time, which allow the individual to experience a personal transformation. The Story of Tom Brennan by J.C Bourke and The Dead Poets Society both explore these concepts through the use of characters who transform due to changes in their lives, which lead to a reevaluation of who they are and what they value.
In “The Daily Grind: Lessons in the Hidden Curriculum”, Peggy Orenstein gives an observation of an eighth graders day in math class at middle school. Orenstein in this selection is trying to give the reader a view of how there is a gender gap between girls and boys and how control of power is different between male and female. In the beginning Orenstein states that Mrs. Ritcher the math teacher, “is a ruddy athletic woman with a powerful voice.”(97) While class is in session, Orenstein observes the teacher showing more attention towards the boys then the girls. The author observes that: “Allison, a tall, angular girl who once told me, “My goal is to be the best wife and mother I can be,” raises her hand to ask a question. Mrs. Ritcher, finishing
I think the first question was about Chekhov; coz y' know I'm dead familiar with Chekhov now' Rita's confidence has become more obvious because 'dead surprised' has now become 'dead familiar' this shows that Rita has now become a different person. Before Frank had met Rita he was unhappy with his life he was drinking a lot, bored of lecturing and teaching so he decided he would so some work with the Open University and of course Rita was his first student. ' Can I offer you a drink? ... Scotch'
indeed a person who has a lot to say and Frank listens and responds to
