Teaching in a correct way to students who still looking for dream
As a common student who studied in high school in U.S and China, I strongly concerned that the educational purpose in both countries have been far away from the original purpose of education. As one of the students who have a dream, the thing is, I strongly recommend that we need to improve our educational quality and enable the basic purpose of education return to our school. As the matter of fact, the basic educational purpose for students is teach them how to make them dream come true or teach them how to live with their own mind. On the country, the thing that school teaches you is how to find a good job. When I still in China, high school teacher always reminded you: “If you could not get a good grade in college entrance exam, you’ll not able to get into a good college son that you fail to find a high salary job. At that time, you will be a loser.” I still clearly remembered that I lived in a “HELL”, when I were a junior in high school in China; I got up at 6, except for a break or lunch time, I faced to books all day long. In a usual day, what I need to do is gone to school studied Chinese, Moths, English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Even in the evening, a mandatory “self study” in school until 9pm. At that moment, I always questioned myself: “Why am I had to do that? I am tired!!!!” It doesn’t work anytime that I always comforted myself with such language about my teacher always said to me.
As both the standards of school work and stress levels of student’s rise, the American school system remains unaltered, unchanged, and unaffected for over a hundred years. School is an institution that can serve as a massive gate in life granting you access to a job, stability, and a future or it can become a giant pillar in the way of everything you wish to achieve. While we recognize that a student’s own motivation, study habits, and will to learn, are cardinal in any schooling system, we must also understand the issues with an institution that is fundamentally unsound from the ground up. In today’s world, students are shoved with the hands of docility, and amenability as they render themselves in a system that has inadvertently failed them, by neglecting to celebrate their differences, and varying learning patterns. Conformity in the education system has shown to damage the personalization and
The purpose of education in the United States is to prepare young people for their future by giving them the knowledge and skills so they can be successful. The purpose of education is to create emotionally healthy young adults that will make good choices and are responsible.
I feel that the goal of education is to open up a world of possibilities for learners. The purpose of education is to show someone that they have the ability to do and be whomever they want to. Education is simply there for bettering oneself and one’s world.
Malcolm X once said “education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today”. From adolescence to adulthood almost every person is put through schooling. As one gets older in age, the education they obtain becomes more rigorous in order to stretch their minds far beyond two plus two or what color the sky is. The strategies of critically thinking and being able to analyze/decipher information in front is them is reinforced routinely in the educational system. With this being said, the purpose of education is to aid in enhancing one’s qualification, socialisation, and subjectification skills within the society regardless of how or where one’s education was obtained.
I am the first generation of Americans in my family, even though my father is an American citizen, but I grew up in China. Chinese language and cultural is one of my uniqueness. This trait influenced me the most was my first year in America. The only academic course that I felt confident was math. I never need help in math, I finished all the classwork and homework at class, I got full score on the exam, even with the state exam in FL, I got 5 out of 5. However, other courses, such as science, English, history, I felt powerless. Often, I was sitting on class, but didn't understand anything about it. At the beginning of the English course, I understood most content, because I learned them in my past six years in China, but when facing the second
The true value of education is lost as grades and numbers become top priority. In a spoken word, Suli Breaks shares that students have becomes zombies in schools that run everything in a routine. They lose sleep to hand in assignments and meet the dead-line yet by that time the students are also half dead. The grade is all that the student starts to care about because that is what the school is directing their efforts towards. With all of their focus on the grade no one remembers to remember what they learned and apply it in life. Thus, it is in one semester and out the next. In one study teachers witnessed “unprecedented levels of school-related anxiety, stress, and mental health amongst pupils, particularly at exam time”. People may think that only college students do all nighters but it actually is not surprising to find high school and sometimes even middle schools staying up late nights trying to finish up assignments. All of this leads to sleep deprivation which affects the student’s health and in turn propels their stress as time virtually elapses out of existence. Likewise, the school system runs in such a way that mistakes become feared in an unhealthy manner. It is fine to have the fear of failure but one must learn to accept it because once it is accepted, children are not afraid to take a chance at trying something new. Ken Robinson makes the point that “we
Six year olds in China are expected to stay up until the dead of night completing homework and then wake up at six in the morning for school. To actually be ready for an active and alert day of school after a night like that is simply impossible. Robbins adds these morsels of information to keep the reader knowledgeable and interested. These facts not only relay the purpose and spread the subject, but it also brings out the speaker’s voice. Her voice displays her amount of knowledge and shares the idea that overachieving is rampant worldwide.
For nine months out of the year, the schools in the United States of America strive to educate the young people of America. There are many different aspects involved in attempting to give these young Americans a true education. While there are many different angles to analyze these goals of a true education, there are still a good idea of the basics one should learn and even the complexities one should learn to understand. The schools in the United States of America strive very hard to meet the goals of a true education.
Growing up in poverty meant always being in a pinch for money. This led me to my decision of seeking a job within the first month of my freshman year in high school. Thankfully, this decision led me to the precious self-taught skill of time management. I was able to build my skills until my sophomore year. I tried to take on more shifts at work than I could handle, in aspiration of saving up for a car, and consequently my grades began to slip. I acquired my first C in my favorite class: Chemistry. Being an aspiring student in the medical field, and a student who prides themselves on their grades, I was devastated. As a result, I soon reached the epiphany that one has to have priorities in life; I chose mine to be education. I discussed with my boss my situation and she gave me a set schedule of a doable 4 days a week. This allowed me to do my homework and studying in advance. This also permitted me to get enough sleep,
The Overpressured student A recent study conducted in New York University found that, “ Nearly half (49%) of all students reported feeling a great deal of stress on a daily basis and 31 percent reported feeling somewhat stressed. Females reported significantly higher levels of stress than males (60% vs. 41%)” (James, 2015). Many schools and parents brainwash their students to believing that in order to succeed in life one must pursue education to the highest degree. The argument ‘The Overpressured Student’ by Richard Weissbourd, argued that students are drove to be overachievers in education which causes an imbalance in schools. By combining ethos, logos, and strong premises; the author adequately persuades the reader.
I feel supporting students is a collective effort, therefore, my goals are to research programs outside the STS programs in order to provide students with more resources. I will be working with different programs, such as the Career Center, Graduate Division, Study Abroad, etc. to better cater the PPALS population. I now take the time to "self-care". I feel it is important and beneficial to the population I serve that I am healthy. In addition, I understand that there are different populations with different needs, therefore, I try to advocate and support the specific needs to each population. I do this by learning about resources that could aid their transition into UC Irvine. There is always room for improvement. Therefore, I try to learn
The goals of education are controversial and not many people can agree on what they are. A commonly shared opinion of the “purpose of education is to prepare students for the “real world” to “succeed””. Children are constantly being prepared for the workforce and what will
I have the same idea with Bobby Bones. Just like him, I’m not the smartest in my class, I come from a family with a lot of problems going on. I’m always the kid who puts in the most effort, but still end up with a crappy grade. After 6th grade, my mom decided to send me to the U.S. for better education, in which I knew that it will be so hard for me to complete my education in China. However, the first two years at Cardigan was a struggle, language barriers and culture differences made my Cardigan experience not only hard but stressful. Moreover, because I’m from the capital of China, I get bullied a lot by the kids from other parts of China. Therefore, I decided to study at WMA, to start a new page.
During at summer, after 8th grade, I used to study everyday for two hours. Those two hours, i was preparing myself to start high school knowing everything. When I’m study, I need a room of silence because because I could concentrate patiently. I don’t want to be just like other people think the summer is all vacation. I put all of my effort and responsibility for high school. At this point, I never got held back or repeated a grade, i started school when I Was 3 because I love education. In high school, I studied for 2 hours and those 2 hours I was just studying for regents. But started 10th and 11th grade, I started studying more and more. I had 3 regents in 10th grade and 2 regents in 11th grade. Besides for those regents, I had to study
When I look back in the past, I would see those days I was working restlessly while studying eagerly at school. I call my father a hero for his encouragement to pursue my studies. I would also remember he kept telling me, “Do not worry about the expenses, and just move forward to accomplish your studies at any cost!” So when I had a problem, I would share it with my father and nothing could defeat me to reach my goals. My father taught me that education is the ultimate goal to succeed while leaving the desperation behind. With the help of my father, I devoted most of my time studying English language and attending computer classes when I was about fifteen. I could hardly
