Education and Technology Technology has become a major component in the system of education. Technology and education in the U.S. has changed the way people learn nowadays. Being on the 21st century the lives of people have changed immensely due to a high increase in technology inventions. Communication definitely has evolved in so many ways with the newer technology being used. In the 1980’s an enthusiast named Seymour Papert predicted that computers would allow learners to construct and test hypothesis about complex systems. The introduction of computers to schools would totally change the way students and teachers communicate, argued Papert on his prediction. Also, the introductions of computers would allow students to easily access any information they want and would facilitate new forms of creative expression. Technology have shaped teaching and learning because in the 1990’s schools spent increasing amounts of funds on computers, networks, internet access and other technology devices. This indicated that the learning process was going to be transformed because it was worth it and all the equipment was being used to change the form of learning. For example, certain schools around the globe are moving on to implementing technology in classrooms because it provides many benefits and statistical research that states how students are improving their academic readiness because of the instant access to information, a greater engagement and interactive process in learning, and the personalization that instructors can do towards the educational experience that students receive. The benefits of technology in class can be rather debatable, for there are people who think it's a distraction, but it certainly seems to be beneficial according to the increase of passing percentages in schools.
There is much in the literature regarding the use of technology in education. According to Dede (2009), Banister (2010), Peled and Schocken (2014), my topic can be characterized as technology in education is an effective tool for motivating student engagement, increasing academic success, and providing new environments for students to learn. Thus, the more technology that is incorporated in a students’ earlier grades, the more inclined they will be to prefer that type of instruction in their latter years. It is an important topic with respect to education because the wave of new technology is increasing at rate never before seen in the field of education. All of the articles support the idea of the use of technology in education, and each represent a different aspect in which technology can improve a child’s education.
Computers have always impacted education in a remarkable way. Education-technology dates all the way back to the 1630's. First came a school, then a library, a pencil invention followed, next came the keyboard, an actual computer in 19505, and twelve years later came the first computerized teaching system. Over the years, technology alone has evolved; calculators, smart whiteboards, iPad's, and many more has since came about. Although, such change has overwhelmed the lives of many, computers have changed education today for the better because they are resourceful, provide flexibility, and they have effectively expanded the way we can teach and learn.
Over the last several years I feel there has been a huge shift in the way people around the world are taught and the way people learn in the classroom on a day-to-day basis. In my opinion this is not a result of change to a single element involving teaching techniques, but more specifically a change in amount (increase) of technology used by teachers and students alike. Technology provides many major benefits to society, proven by its dramatic advancement over the last 30 years, but it also presents the question- If we are choosing to make our lives easier by using technology, which in essence is what it is made for, are we really learning/ comprehending as much as we once did?

“We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher’s hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world” (Warlick). This quote by David Warlick illustrates the necessity of implementing technology into the educational system through the use of a metaphor that compares it to the pen and paper of our time. As technology continues to advance, it’s expanding influence in classrooms results in an increase in student comprehension and rate of achievement.
To begin let’s start when “technology” was first getting integrated into the classroom setting. In 1890 the latest and greatest technology was the chalkboard. In 1920s the invention and fascination of the Radio led to an never before used type of learning on- air classes a precursor what we use today with online learning. By the early 1970s a modern day classroom staple – the Scantron was making its way into schools across America. And finally the computer, which was introduced to classroom in the mid 80s with laptop by Toshiba and Apple’s PowerBook. By 1993 daily computer usage was reaching a level close to what we see today when the PDA was launched on society by Apple computers.
