Acquiring education is one of the most critical aspects of a person’s life. It should be seen as vital as the air we breathe. The key to a healthy mind and a successful person is learning. “Without education, you’re not going anywhere in this world” is a famous quote by Malcolm X. His quote reiterates that the competitive world makes it essential for us to have a proper education since it will serve as our weapon to conquer the world. Education will help a person grow as an individual because a highly knowledgeable person will have a better grip on handling any problem that comes his or her way. Literacy is the foundation of what we are as individuals. Every decision we make, as well as our thought process, is the basis of what we know. …show more content…
The lack of motivation and family values, as well as student responsibility, has created this crisis in the education system. In addition, insufficient funding of schools along with quality teachers that are retiring are some of the problems we encounter in the education system. In some parts of the United States, there is a lack of adequate access to materials for reading and writing due to budget constraints. In Allen D. Kanner’s article, “Today’s Class Brought to You By…” he mentioned that with the baby boomers retiring, and a high turnover among new teachers, who are asked to teach subjects they are not properly trained for, are causing difficult classroom situations (280). Similarly, Governor Jerry Brown’s statement last January 11 pointed out that K-12 education has ‘borne the brunt’ of the state’s budget cuts with more than $18 billion in cuts over the last three years. This resulted in larger class sizes, programs are cut, and over 30,000 educators laid off. These teachers are very valuable in our society because they provide our youth with the knowledge and social experiences that they will use to better their future and the future of the entire world. As a student, I have suffered the consequences of triple digit fee increases and the lack of available classes offered. The high cost of education has put the burden not only on the students, and many of their parents, but educators, as
Education opens your mind to the world around you. It gives you knowledge about how things actually work and help you find a job that will support you and your future. A proper education reduces poverty, boosts economic growth, increases income and promote peace according to the Global Partnership for Education. Sadly, only 77% of students graduate from high school and 24 other countries beat the U.S Rate of Educational Improvement according to Harvard’s Program on Educational Policy and Governance. While students are overly focused on extracurricular activities like sports, they aren’t learning enough to succeed to their full
Among the few nationally discussed topics today almost everyone can agree on is that our educational system needs serious repair. School buildings are in a physical state of neglect. Teachers are struggling. US school rankings are below average internationally, and graduation rates are at an all time low. The primary contributing factors for this are economic. Sadly, our society has allowed government administrations to place education at the low end of the federal budget with indisputable results. Our current policies on education do not support the needs of all students through inadequate prioritization, inequitable funding, and the devaluation of educators.
Because the student to teacher ratio has increased so severely, teachers have been forced to change their teaching styles and a large number of parents are angered about their student’s “loss of quality to education” (The pros and cons of education budget cuts: An investigative study). The article, “School Budget Cuts: How Students Say Slashes Are Affecting Them,” reveals the results of a survey conducted by the teen newspaper, L.A. Youth, asking more than 1,850 students about experiences they have had in the classroom in the past two years. The survey reports that 57 percent of students had to copy information from an overhead because there wasn’t enough paper to make copies of a lesson for everyone. Not enough computers were available to 52 percent of the students, 51 percent had to share textbooks, and 37 percent of the students surveyed reported that they did not have a desk to sit at. This is only 1,850
Education is one of the most effective ways to improve quality of life. Education is needed to expand knowledge. It makes one’s brain healthy and filled with knowledge and new material s/he may never knew before. It is needed to succeed, reach greater heights, and find a good job. Without education, a lot of people might be beggars.
Diana’s solution warrants legislators to focus on the prominent issues and solutions. She concluded that success is inevitable without “a long-term plan that strengthens public education and rebuilds the education profession.” Ravitch believes that having well-informed, competent, and experienced educators—plus decision makers—can be a suitable remedy. She goes on to summarize that all students should have “the benefit of a coherent curriculum” and as educators, we ought to deal with the problems affecting students in their homes since “their ability to attend school and to learn is directly influenced by their health and the well-being of their families” (p. 24). Diana mentioned some key resolutions for promoting a successful school reform, and though there are many contributing factors that initiated a failing educational system, disparities in resource allocation and teacher motivation are two of the strongest influences I

Education plays a very significant role when it comes to completing the identity that you would want to be in the future. It’s a cloth that we wear in order to make an appeal to everyone we meet on a daily basis. It serves as our identity that will carry your name in any establishment you may go. From the start of time, to present day, the only way to achieve almost anything this world is to have an education. But, who decides if you’re properly educated, and where does this education come from? What it means to be educated is perceived differently by everyone. To me, education focuses on the mind. But more specifically, factors and characteristics that shape one’s mind. To be educated means one should have the ability to think critically, show respect, and have a level head while obtaining some overall knowledge.
Education, gives us the key to the future, it allows us to see the world, and comprehend it. Education isn't ordinary, it's an idiosyncratic weapon; even though it's a weapon, it wasn't design to kill. It was designed to allow any human being to change the world and shows them the truth. Put them on a path that gives the user unlimited knowledge but how they obtain it and use it, will all depend on the user. Education allows you to push others so they can see a new future or how to change it and turn it to the best instead of being the worst.

In today’s economic environment even the wealthiest states and districts are having to cut funding for education, while districts which were already teetering on the edge are now in an even worse position. In some schools children have to face not having enough books, paper for copies, severe overcrowding,
