According to ELCC Standard 2.4, “Candidates understand and can promote the most effective and appropriate district technologies to support teaching and learning within the district..” In order to enhance my own knowledge in technology, I interviewed the Director of Education and Information Technologies, attended workshops on technology, conducted my own research, and explored technology available to staff in the Middle School. Describe what you saw or experienced, emphasizing what surprised you.
This past year, the Board of Education approved a new position of Director of Educational and Informational Technology. This was a needed improvement in our district. The district hired Jennifer Kozniewski who started in July 2017. In an

This comes as a surprise as the budget was set early last school year, prior to Mrs. Kozniewski taking the helm of this department. I was pleasantly surprised that there was money in the budget for the addition to each school’s computer inventory. Each elementary school received a set of 30 Windows split-screen Notebooks to be housed on a cart to be signed out by teachers for classroom use. At the middle school level, they have 300 laptops available in carts referred to as C.O.W.s (Computers on Wheels). At the high school level, they added a Mac lab to be used primarily be the art department. They also provided the high school with Chromebooks on a cart.
In addition to meeting with Mrs. Kozniewski, I had the opportunity to attend a couple workshops she presented. One was on the use of Google Classroom and the other one was on the updated version of PowerSchool called Power Teacher. Through other courses and a summer workshop attended, I had been exposed to Google forms, sheets, and other options Google has to offer. Google Classroom was new to me and I was excited to learn about it and look forward to using this technology in my classroom. The workshop gave information on how to log in, set up my classroom and save various forms to a specific class. PowerSchool is new to me. At the elementary level, I did not use this website. The workshop gave me the foundation to start entering my grades
As part of the community’s growth, large technology firms moved into the community and while they were willing to assist local schools, they also expected high school graduates to be skilled technology workers (MacDonald, 2006). To meet this need, the school board adopted a goal of providing a technology resource teacher in every school within the next three years. In addition, the school board had a five-year plan to increase and support instruction and instructional leadership in schools and improve student assessment scores on state exams in mathematics. In two years they planned to reduce language
While preparing for this particular assignment I was able to examine and learn about FEAP standards, read chapter 1 of Integrating Educational Technology for Teaching and Take the Tech Survey to self-assess myself as a future educator. While completing the requirements of this week I learned the importance of technology regarding education. Even though I knew the importance I don’t think until completing the survey I really understood how much technology is integrated into the educational experience. While taking the survey I realized that there were different categories of technology within education. The fact that there were many different categories within this subject shocked me. When I first signed up to take this course I didn’t think
This paper is a personal technology plan that includes my personal philosophy on integrating technology in the classroom as well as my professional goals concerning technology in the classroom. My Mission and Vision Statement are included as well as a plan for communications, integrating technology, software to support assessment, and technology ethics for a strong guideline in the classroom. Although this plan will need to be revised as advances in technology are made this is strong ground work that I can build on as a professional educator. Using this plan I can ensure that my students are using the latest
The instructional setting is an elementary school located in a middle class neighborhood. Technological information will be presented to an audience of educators, administrators, specialist, and instructional aids.
I am excited to share that we have hired Jessica Gerson as the Long Term Sub for both Jarret Izzo and Anna Winchell. Ms. Gerson will begin spending time in Mr. Izzo’s class this week to best prepare for the transition. Mr. Izzo’s baby is expected to arrive anytime now. Upon Mr. Izzo’s return, Ms. Gerson will spend time shadowing Mrs. Winchell so that she is prepared to take over her class following the February break. We are excited to be able to have her available to support both classrooms.
Being on the IT side, this session covered material that was new to me. I learned a lot about Common Core, various tools, and SAMR model. When I had my appointment with the Associate Superintendent, I realized the value of having those big-picture conversations. She was pleased to help, so I scheduled a few additional future meetings with her. These are going to help me learn more about our student programs and their use of technology.
After meeting with the team of instructional coaches in my district, the tech integration specialists, the building principal, and the building leadership team (there have been a lot of meeting – I’m sensing a trend), I have begun to formulate my thoughts on what it means to be an instructional technology coach and how I can best serve my school. As I start my journey with this role, I consider myself
We were able to present an Instructional Technology Plan that guide major adoptions in technology for the schools with special emphasis on the integration of technology to teaching and learning. Once implementation began we were able to see Interactive Whiteboards in every classroom in the High School and most core content area classrooms in the middle school. Elementary was reserved to a second year and every classroom and School Library was included in the initiative. The plan was owned by the stakeholders and they were engaged in professional development to take full advantage of the technologies.
As we navigate through the 21st century, technology in the classroom is becoming further predominant. iPads are replacing our textbooks, and we can research any desired topic on our smartphones. The impact that technology has had on today’s schools has been utterly momentous. Educators have now seen firsthand the numerous benefits of technology in the classroom. According to a study by IT Trade Association CompTIA, around 75 percent of educators have come to the conclusion that technology has a positive impact on the education process. Educators have also recognized the significance of developing these technological skills in students so they will be prepared to enter the workforce after they graduate (Cox). By incorporating technology in the classroom, teachers are setting our students up for a successful life outside of school. The increase of technology has even changed how teachers teach along with how
Physical, human, financial, and policy aspects greatly affect the success of technology use in schools.
Education is one of the most important professions in the working world. Technology has done many things for us in today’s society especially for education and schools. Technology in the school system has impacted the students and teachers in many positive ways, including virtual field trips, testing tips, teacher resources, class web sites, and lesson plans. With computer use in our schools, we have access to many different sources and various types of learning.
To start off, schools need to realize the amount they can save in the long run by utilizing technology and lean away from traditional, old fashioned, hard cover books. When books become outdated and used, schools have to spend endless amounts to replace them. To avoid this, schools can take the initiate and work proactively and replace hard cover books with electronics to avoid unnecessary expenses. An example of this occurred at Empire High School which recently made a switch from textbooks even though, “it wasn’t because of a funding crisis.” (Source A) Empire High School shows just how well technology can work. Not only does technology help in saving necessary funding, it adds a sure convenience factor to the students and teachers by not having to drag around large and expensive textbooks.
The complex social and historical foundations of education are rooted in the need to create a population of citizens capable of contributing to the continuing economic and political stability of our nation. First we were an agricultural society, then industrial, and now we are educating students for futures with that are yet unknown (explainvisualthinking, 2007). The new dynamic, created by the recent and rapid expansion of technology driven globalization has created the compelling need for technology infused education in our schools (Friedman, 2005). As an educational technology leader, I collaborate with other educators and families to create technology initiatives that will support educational technology in our schools.
Objective -to provide information and support for various technologies used for teaching and non-teaching purposes at Southwood school
The education world has been greatly influenced by rapidly changing technology and the increasing availability of information. Schools have advanced by leaps and bounds when it comes to incorporating technology into the learning environment, however, many more advances need to be made. In all areas of the country, educators are trying to help students keep up with technology, but there are more changes that are essential for preparing the next generation for the future.
