SECTION 1 1.1 Tina is an adolescent. At 11 years old she has not yet developed, nor is she expected to have developed, a strong mental (or physical for that matter) capacity to process all negative and/or traumatic experiences that life has already thrown at her. She is at a very impressionable age.
There are various points to keep in mind with respect to her unique situation viz. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. She is very young and vulnerable being 11 years old Her father was not present in her life having walked out when she was 3 years old It is very possible her mother had a slew of relationships with other men whilst she was growing up Tina’s mother is not a rational individual. When that force is immediate, of short duration, or infrequent, it is called sexual assault. The offender is referred to as a sexual abuser or molester. The term also covers any behavior by any adult towards a child to stimulate either the adult or child sexually. When the victim is younger than the age of consent, it is referred to as child sexual abuse. Child sexual abuse is a form of child abuse in which a child is abused for the sexual gratification of an adult or older adolescent. In addition to direct sexual contact, child sexual abuse also occurs when an adult engages in indecent exposé (of the genitals, female nipples, etc.) to a child with intent to gratify their own sexual desires or to intimidate or groom the child, asks or pressures a child to engage in sexual activities, displays pornography to a child, or uses a child to produce child pornography. Effects of child sexual abuse include guilt and self-blame, flashbacks, nightmares, insomnia, fear of things associated with the abuse (including objects, smells, places, doctor 's visits, etc.), self-esteem issues, sexual dysfunction, chronic pain, addiction, self-injury, suicidal ideation, somatic complaints, depression, posttraumatic stress disorder, anxiety, other mental illnesses (including borderline personality disorder) propensity to re-victimization in adulthood, and physical injury to the child, among other problems. Pauline and her siblings lived a life filled with fear. She was taught at a very young age about the challenges that her parents had gone through in order for her and her sibling to lead a better life. Pauline and her siblings faced physical abuse from their demanding and controlling father. Only the letter ‘A’ was accepted on their school report caard… anything below that deserved a wack with a stick from their abusive father.

Twyla is faced with the struggles of being a young woman whose mother is constantly out partying and possibly abusing drugs and abandons her at the group home. Twyla has to be the mother, and takes care of herself even at the group home. She grows to face the struggles of a poor waitress who marries into a loving family, struggling with stability. As she and Roberta age and grow apart and run into each other, their main source of contention has been Maggie. Maggie is mute and possibly deaf, and is of undetermined race, but is a mostly functional adult who is abused by the girls (Morrison 1405). How they treat her is reflective of their feelings towards their mothers, Twyla minimizing and repressing, and Roberta blames the “other” of hurting her. They can’t reconcile their past, and so they go their separate ways. She struggles to find her voice when she encounters Roberta, as their racial differences and accusations keep her from speaking out. Attempting to reconcile her memory with Roberta’s tale is too difficult, until the end of the story, as they’ve both had time to heal and realize neither was right- they didn’t assault her, but they both wanted to, picturing their mothers in her place. Twyla wanted “the right mother” one who “wasn’t deaf and dumb to her needs” (Stanley). As she comes full circle, raising a good, healthy child, and her mother long gone, Twyla can finally heal herself.
Although the physical abuse left scars, the verbal abuse was frequently thrown at her. Whether it was from her father, or her classmates she is consistently reminded what an outsider she was.
The rain got harder as Tina walked alone in tears. She missed her daughter Iris. Tina thought about all the good times they had together. She wondered why Iris had done that to herself. Iris was a skinny young girl who killed herself. Iris wa bullied at school for how far she was, so Iris decided to stop eating. Tina was walking in the rain. It had been a year since Iris was gone. She thought back to that day. Tina woke up and made herself some coffee. She nibbled on a muffin that she bought from the store yesterday. She took Iris to school and then went to work. Tina went throughout her day as usual, but what she didn’t know was that soon her daughter would take her own life. Iris got home and went up into her bedroom. Tina wouldn’t get home
Jeannette can see and understand what is going on to her and her family. Jeannette shares: ‘mom you can’t quit your job’ I said. “ we need the money.” mom asked. “you have a job. You can earn money. Lori can earn money too.”(218). jeannette gets into a conflict with her mother. Jeannette don’t want her mother quit the job; because Jeannette understands this time her family need the money than ever. Opposite to Jeannette, her mother do not care much for the family and her children. Jeannette also conflict with her father after she tells him about her mother problem. Jeannette shares: “who do you think you are” he asked. “Shes your mother.” “ then why she doesn’t act like one?” i looked at dad for what felt like a very long moment. Then I burted out, “and why don’t you act like a dad” (220). Instead go to the bar and drink; jeannette wants her father to get a job to help the family. Jeannette wants her parents have responsibility for their kids and their family. Jeannette matures in her mind and also her actions such as talks to her parents to get a job, and take care her siblings. She is a young lady, but she has a mature thinking. Jeannette says:” i was afraid that Mr.Brecker wouldn’t give me the job if he knew I was only thirteen, so I told him I was seventeen.”(215). Jeannette has to work to get the money to help her family when she only thirteen years old. At this age, most children are only focus on school, but
Katie is raised by a single mother like Tyrec and uses the childrearing method of natural child growth. That’s it. The Brindle’s are a poor family struggling to make ends meet as Ms. Brindle is currently unemployed as she raises her eighteen month old child “Melmel” and lives off the welfare system and child support she gets. Due to the abusive lifestyle that she has experienced as well, she has taken a larger toll, physically and psychologically, than a lot of thirty-seven year old women. Katie herself has experienced difficulties with her being sexually abused in the first grade that has affected her life. Therefore, the involvement of Katie’s extended family is huge. Her grandmother plays a role in being an additional caregiver in her life. Social problems seem to be an everyday occurrence for the Brindle’s as they try to live their everyday lives. As a result, Katie acts older than her age (nine years) due to the added responsibility of trying to take care of herself at times. Ms. Brindle’s parenting style of natural growth may have affected how mature Katie is, but it the Katie’s past and current environment that has had a greater influence in her
Sexual abuse refers to any action that pressures or coerces someone to do something sexually they don 't want to do. It can also refer to behaviour that impacts a person 's ability to control their sexual activity or the circumstances in which sexual activity
Sexual abuse can be hard to define because of the many different forms it can take on, the different levels of frequency, the variation of circumstances that can occur. Until a child is fit to function as a self-supporting and informed adult, we have an obligation not to take advantage of their lack of power or protection to inflict damage, or demand submission to acts that are not in their own best interests within. Children are being abused every day in different countries. While commonly accepted wisdom had been that childhood sexual abuse results in long lasting negative outcomes.
Sexual abuse involves forcing or enticing a child or young person to take part in sexual activities, not necessarily involving a high level of violence, whether or not the child is aware of what is happening. The activities may involve physical contact, including assault by penetration or non-penetrative acts such as masturbation, kissing, rubbing and touching outside of clothing. They may also include non-contact activities, such as involving children in looking at, or in the production of, sexual images, watching sexual activities, encouraging children to behave in sexually inappropriate ways, or grooming a child in preparation for abuse, this also includes via the internet. Sexual abuse is not solely perpetrated by adult males, Women and other children can also commit acts of sexual abuse. This type of abuse is usually committed by someone known to the victim not just by sexual predators. It is important to remember that boys as well as girls can also be the victim of sexual abuse. The signs of sexual abuse as with emotional abuse may not be outwardly visible, because of the shame and self-blame a child will have if this is happening or has happened to them, makes it very difficult for a child
Sexual abuse is, also referred to as molestation, it is usually undesired sexual behaviour by one person upon another. When force is immediate, of short duration, or infrequent, it is called sexual assault. This does not have to include touching the genitalia, it can also be non-touching activities such as making either a child or an adult watch pornography or taking photos of them whilst naked without their consent. Examples of sexual abuse are involving touching part of the genitals against their will. Also it can be forcing them to expose their body parts when they don’t want to.
Sexual Abuse- This may occur when there is unwanted sexual contact or forceful proceedings to do something sexual which you may not want to do. This normally involves two people but could be more people involved. Examples of this could be rape and touching
Legal and Ethical Issues (P 425). There are couple different types of child abuse and each type has a different definition and different results. Physical abuse is considered the most common abuse because it is easy to find and discover the harm of the child and to define as a physical force that resulted in harm or injury to the child. There are many signs that result from physical abuse such as, bruises in the face and lips, broken bones, isolation from others, fear, anxiety, unable to communicate with others and so on. Another type of child abuse is sexual abuse which is an action by force or threat by someone to do something sexually to the child or minor. Signs and symptoms of sexual abuse are difficulties in walking and sitting, bleeding externally in genital organs, distrust of other, a serious concern of others, and crying without reason
The fourth and fifth categories of teaching is the office of pastor and teacher, is an interchangeable office pointing to Apostle’s Peters and Timothy’s commitments “…to feed my sheep…” and “…to study to show thyself approved…” The office of pastor-teacher is a pivotal one. They must be distinguishable in order to function in the highest capacity. I would suggest that the pastor-teacher and evangelist are twin gifts, one must reach and teach to those outside the church with love and passion and the other must reach and teach with love and passion inside of the church. In contrast, the pastor-teacher does so with the concept of nurture and healing whereas the outreach teacher-evangelist does so with a bend toward love and deliverance. The evangelist has a call to the church and the transformation of those outside the church, whereas the pastor and teacher have a double or bifocal call within the community in which they are called. The pastor must deal with thwarting wolves and keeping all unsavory doctrines from entering the sheep pen.
