Edward Elgar’s a leading English composer during his time and is known for composing the music piece named Pomp and circumstance No.1 which if you don’t know is now in day commonly played at ceremonial events such as high school or college graduations. When I started listening and analyzing this song I would notice how the piece is very joyous and uplifting, although when I listen to it I immediately think, as I said about a college graduation of some sort but if I didn’t think like that I would think it at another point of view. I would visualize a celebration as how the song starts of with a tiny loud bang and then resumes to a soft tone portrayed in a joyous manner where when you listen to the piece it gives you a positive feeling as if
Upon initial reading, the poem’s title, genre, and speaker offer a unique perspective on a normally exciting aspect of weddings: the dress.
The play Cyrano de Bergerac written by Edmond Rostand was written based off the life of the real Cyrano de Bergerac. Even so, the setting of the story itself contributed greatly to the character Cyrano de Bergerac and the development of the story itself. Overall, the play has very specific stage directions and gives a very detailed description to the setting for every scene. This helps the character develop as the story continue and while also giving background and mood to that scene in which it describes. For example, things like the season being autumn in act five and “the green lawn has turned red” (page 199) and “spots of darker color formed by box shrubs”(page 199) showing how death is coming and being represented by the falling leaves and it’s change in color. The setting of the play also gives cultural background to the society in that time period.

It has been 6 days since James left never leaving my mind. The days seem longer and duller. I have been waiting for what feels an eternity to have gotten a letter from him to assure me he was okay. Around noon the mail arrived and I saw a pile of letter from James and the sight of this print made me the happiest i've been since his departure and feel as if he had returned with the
It was a vernal early summer day in 2010, back in my high school classroom in China. I was doing a presentation on the 52nd Grammy Awards for my English class project, with the playback of the show on the projector. The entire class devotedly enjoyed the flamboyant Lady Gaga, the patriotic 21 Guns by Green Day, the elegant Beyoncé, and the astounding whirling performance by Pink. The performances on the Grammy’s were intense, until a quiescent and soothing piano prelude gradually emerged. The intro did not sound as intense as pop or rock music, neither did it sound like country music in any sense. I was astonished, since virtually all the English songs I had heard of were pop, except for those country songs from the youthful Taylor Swift. The impressionable prelude was definitely a novelty for me, an ordinary high school student in China, who had not been exposed to a variety of English music genres by any means, while the opening lyrics “Picture perfect memories, scattered
I am doing my music research paper on Sir Edward Elgar’s Pomp and circumstance March number one. I will be covering a short biography of Edward, genre of the piece, and the overall composition and why I chose this particular piece of music. Elgar was born on June 2, 1857 at Broad heath, a village about three miles from the small city of Worcester in the English West Midlands. His father had a music shop in Worcester and tuned pianos, so Edward was exposed to music at an early age. He studied the music that was in his father’s music shop and began to teach himself a wide variety of instruments. Elgar is actually known for being a largely self- taught composer which is a very remarkable fact about him. Elgar battled for many years to establish himself as a composer because of prejudices of religious backgrounds. Elgar was a member of the Roman Catholic Church which was a minority in a protestant England at the time. Eventually in 1889 he married Caroline Alice Roberts who was the daughter of Sir Henry Roberts, a general in the British army.
Tim Burton created Edward Scissor hands out of his own experiences in Collage. It is Modern Fantasy which uses narrative and Film conventions to create the mixture of Horror and Fantasy. Fantasy films have their own charatestics and those are how we can determine what genre the movie belongs to. A fantasy Film will normally be in an enclosed space, the setting oF Edward scisoor hand is way that Tim Burton makes the film aFantesy film. Like most movies there is a clsh between a villan and the main Charater changes during the film aswel. Many other things make a film what it is like the Charaters the plot and even the sound.
People tend to judge others based on many aspects. Sometimes they may try to force people to act upon certain rules that define their place in society. They often try to meet expectations that society has made for them based on gender and social status. William Shakespeare reinforces these ideas in his play Twelfth Night, which introduces many meaningful messages about situations that still occur in society today. He clearly develops important themes worthy of analysis. A few of these strong themes are about stereotypes and society’s expectations and rules, which he proves to be irrelevant most of the time. Many situations in the play falsify commonly held stereotypes about gender and social status by showing how they are sometimes invalid. He also shows how these stereotypes can affect the way people behave towards and judge others.
In The Awakening, Edna is constantly looking for the approval and attention of someone. Although she has a husband and kids of her own to console her in her solitude, she strives for the attention of someone else. It seems that although she wants the attention of others, she represses the idea of a man to tell her what to do. The idea of a man taking control of her life would be the reason for the transformation that she undergoes. Throughout the novel, there are varies examples of the men that want to dominate the way Edna lives her life. Edna would be a reminder of the depiction of gender roles that women face. While the men in her life try to suppress the identity that she is discovering, she finds herself straying away from the person they want her to be.
Throughout all great works of literature, the authors try to include a theme or center point to base their writing on. Within the plot there can be found many similar references and coinciding points to be discovered among the lines the author writes. Richard III is a play written by the great playwright, poet, and storyteller, William Shakespeare. He was a man who wrote many popular stories known today as some of the greatest works of literary art ever read. He lived throughout the late 16th century into the early 17th century, a time where he produced many plays that were appreciated by the masses and even some royalty. Richard III, one of his popular works, is rife with political criticisms while simultaneously veiled by comedic coverage full of metaphoric insults.
Imagery is an integral part of literature. The protagonist, Hamlet, his mother Queen Gertrude and her husband King Claudius, along with Hamlet’s love interest Ophelia are all affected by human sin through the evocation of sickness and rot. Sin, the driving force of the play, impacts each character, decaying his or her mind, resulting in the emotional and physical demise of each character and the decay of the state of Denmark, which has become “rotten” after Claudius poisons his own brother and weds his sister-in-law. William Shakespeare’s tragic play Hamlet has explicit imagery evoking sickness, death, and decay. The use of death, rot, and sickness as images illustrate the sinful human nature of the characters and the corruption of Denmark.
In an average human lifetime each human experiences important events, in which music plays an important role. Formal concerts follow a special ritual, where the performers are applauded after they finish, and the audience is silent throughout the performance. This is different in other cultures where audiences are accustomed to talking during concerts. Rituals such as weddings, funerals and births use music again to evoke the mood of the event. These events unify people, constructing a social structure and controls people’s behaviour. Music is also used to manipulate behaviour; sometimes a specific type of music is played to subliminally encourage consumers to buy more products. Music is also used as a way to communicate emotions, in a way speech cannot convey, therefore sometimes we need not understand the words of song to understand what mood it evokes.
Eliade, in his book “The Sacred and Profane,” poses an interesting conjecture that all people are inherently religious. What one does and the decision they make in their lives are all reflections on what they find sacred. Sacred in this context is an extension of one’s belief held up in high esteem to the point where what is deemed sacred is god like. Religion is the frame that interprets what is sacred and gives it a name and a face. Christians, for example, view Christmas as a sacred time as it is the season of the birth of their savior; Jews view the Passover as sacred as it represents a time in their religious history where God passed over the Jews while sending a message to their enemies. What is sacred can manifest itself in any shape, form, or time; truly entering the fourth dimension of space. If something sacred is god like, what is sacred to those who do not have a God? How can something be sacred if there is not a frame of reference for the thing to be sacred? How can every decision a person makes be reflect what they find sacred, if they do not have a religious language to reflect this phenomena?
Orchestra concerts are an example of music being presented in an emotional and artistic manner. Often people, mainly think of contemporary music when they hear about orchestra concerts. Music composed in the late 1970s to 1990s. But its music extends to much further than that. Scores have been performed from many composers in grand concerts that originate from many sources. These sources include movies, television shows, and even video games. The level of emotion that these concerts express varying from excitement, sadness, intensity, and many others. As a listener, you feel absorbed in the dramatic conducting of the composer and the unity of the orchestra as a whole. Even the setting of the concert can be cinematic as other displays show the grandeur of an orchestra. Our bodies were meant to take in the sounds of music more so than the images. What we derive happens automatically as we drown in the mixture of emotions orchestra has to offer.
There are groups called LGBT groups which in other words are lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgenders. LBG's have fought for their rights for years and were accepted in serving in the year 1993 under President Bill’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Act”, (DADT). The act never allowed transgenders to serve, which was the only group that was not taken part of the act. In the year 2016, former President Obama reversed the rules and allowed transgenders to start serving the military. That did not last too long after the newest in office President Trump has once again banned transgenders from serving completely and his words were:
