The German Intelligence Apparatus The German intelligence agencies roots go back to the days of the Abwehr when Germany had the most sophisticated intelligence and counter-intelligence agency in the world prior to the start of WWI. Today German intelligence agencies are split into four different agencies with some overlapping responsibilities and missions. The largest of these is the Federal Intelligence Service (Bundesnachrichtendienst). The BDN acts as an early warning to alert German officials of potential threats from abroad. Since it is Germany’s only overseas intelligence agency it collects on military and civilian interest. It often shares information and works closely with the KSA, Strategic Reconnaissance Command, on those missions. Its primary missions are to collect and analyze data on terrorists, WMD’s, drug and weapon trafficking, illegal migration and information warfare. The BDN has a $615 million Euro budget and has 6500 employees. The agency is one of the best and most effective intelligence agencies in the world. …show more content…
Given the history of prior German spy agencies like the Nazi SS and the Stasi of the Cold War era, it is easy to understand the trust issues Germans have with spies. Recently the BDN found themselves in hot water over their collection of phone call data. After Edward Snowden’s unauthorized disclosure of NSA collection in Germany, attention was drawn to the BDN’s own telecommunication collection activities in Bavaria. The revelation that the NSA was using the BDN to listen in on not only German’s phone conversations but also French and Middle Eastern calls sent the German people into a panic calling for major reforms in the
Relevancy Material: I would like to commemorate Mr. Snowden not only for showing us how to stand tall in what we believe, but for also shedding light on some major privacy issues in America, regardless of whether you agree with his methods.
How has medical science changed since the 1990’s? I believe that medical science has changed a lot in many ways since the 1990’s. I feel like the biggest change from then and now is the growth of technology. Technology has such a big part in the medical feild because it can help to preform surgeries and be in contact with other divisions of the medical feild. During the 1990’s technology hasn't been a big part of the medical feild yet but since it is now it is important we keep progressing.
In George Orwell’s 1984, Big Brother uses surveillance to spy on everything from people’s everyday actions to thoughts in their mind’s privacy. The government controls much of the citizens, and this book has left a horrifying image to its readers for the future of government surveillance. As much as it sounds extreme, this could be the near future of Americans if surveillance programs continue to grow. Due to the many findings of Edward Snowden on the flaws of surveillance programs, changes must be made to the NSA Domestic Surveillance Programs.
On the charges of theft of government property, unauthorized communication of national defense information, and willful communication of classified intelligence to an unauthorized person, he is without a doubt guilty. Edward Snowden is a highly intelligent cyber-system operator, and now the most powerful weapon against the United States government. While working as a contractor for the National Security Agency (NSA) he discovered that his assignment was to access the information and webcams of every single American and even some people overseas. He views this surveillance as a gross misconduct of government power that virtually is unable to have oversight. No one was able to challenge this government espionage because the only ones who knew
Wikileaks has come under a lot of fire for what they have done over the last few years, with creator Julian Assange taking most of the heat. He has been called everything from a “terrorist” by Vice President Biden, to being praised by the common citizen and even certain political leaders such as Vladimir Putin. Julian Assange himself claims that he is only trying to help people, and has no hidden motive. To this day he resides at the Ecuadorian Embassy, facing extradition for sex crimes that some supporters would argue were a clear smear campaign against his message and movement.
Edward Snowden. This is a name that will be in the history books for ages. He will be branded a traitor or a whistleblower depending on where you look. Many Americans feel that Edward Snowden is a traitor who sold the United States’ secrets aiming to harm the nation. Others believe that he was simply a citizen of the United States who exercised his right to expose the government for their unconstitutional actions. It is important to not only know the two sides to the argument of friend or foe, but to also know the facts as well. My goal in this paper is to present the facts without bias and to adequately portray the two sides of the argument.
IRTC spoke with Detective Jones who reported that she responded to Montefiore Hospital and was able to observe the subject child. Detective Jones conveyed that ECS also made a visit to the Montefiore Hospital to observe the subject child. Detective Jones stated that she spoke with medical staff who confirmed the subject child’s injury but also stated that it is a common injury which could happen to a child when they are learning to walk. Detective Jones conveyed that she has some questions regarding the child’s mother not noticing the injury until the next day, but it is difficult to say when and injury was initially visible if you’re not looking for it. Detective Jones added that when the subject child was observed at the hospital, the injury
The individual responsible for one of the most significant leaks in US political history is Edward snowden, a 29-year-old former technical assistant for the CIA and current employee of the defence contractor Booz Allen Hamilton. He was brought up originally in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. His family moved later to Maryland, near the NSA headquarters in Fort Meade.
Headquarters of the National Security Agency (NSA), employees a multitude of employees consisting of computer scientists, analysists, linguists, voice interceptors and mathematicians. (Factory, T.S. Nova, 2009) The scope of what happens behind closed doors at the National Security Agency is mind boggling. The average citizen could not even begin to apprehend the complex work these professional complete in a normal work week. The employees at the National Security Agency monitor terrorist by intercepting and interpreting phone calls, e-mails, webmail, monitors social media and website sites. Nova’s program “The Spy Factory” explores how safe is our county when it comes to terrorism. Nova brings up some interesting facts that are chilling and make you think, are we really safe in America?

Yes, I think the average person in the US does not think too much about domestic spying and think it’s a topic less research or discussed. It looks at though most don’t seem to care enough on the topic. It is well known the U.S. government has the capability to spy on individual’s, but I don’t think too many can answer the question with facts to back it up, if the U.S. Government is actually spying on U.S. citizens, who have done nothing legally wrong and have not broken any laws.
What is a rebel? A rebel is an individual or group of people that want to cause damage to their current government. A rebel is irritated with their current government, because they are unhappy with the current social structure. This definition is often associated with physical violence. However, we currently live in a society where not only physical violence can cause harm. Technology can also cause severe harm to a government. Also, a rebel is fueled by a belief of heroism, and does not consider themself to be a criminal. Correspondingly, both physical and technological harm to an individual’s current government fueled by heroism defines a “rebel”.
Communicating risk can be quite risky and how one goes about it can have multiple implications. One case of risk management is demonstrated by Edward Snowden, a man who exposed the national security agency (NSA) hidden surveillance work and acts of multiple invasions regarding the privacy among people all over the world. This risk provides both strengths and limitations that include helping the public be aware of what is going on inside of government, while simultaneously presenting a limitation for the NSA. Not to mention, the government might go about performing their task within the job differently and take more security initiatives to protect the privacy within the agency. Snowden’s decision went against codes of ethics and compliance
Germany has been ahead of things on the technology side and in the nineteenth century they developed the intelligence services. They used their technology to monitor the public, control behavior and use citizens to monitor their neighbors, colleagues and friends. They dictated public, and the private lives of citizens. German data and protection laws and the federal data protection act were put in place to protect people and their rights.
There have been government officials that try to stop this type of surveillance on Americans. NSA data collection has been accumulating phone records in masses from telephone companies (Savage). NSA is able to do this because of Section 215 of the Patriot Act (Ravenscraft). A federal judge, Richard J. Leon of United States District Court for the District of Columbia, believed that the NSA data collection program is unconstitutional (Savage). After many debates, Congress created the U.S.A Freedom Act (Savage). The U.S.A Freedom Act prohibited bulk collection of data, however, even though government agency like NSA can’t have hold bulk collection of data they can still access it from corporations (Savage). This shows that there are people in
