Cell phones, also referred to as mobile phones are a certain type of wireless handheld devices that users use for various communication activities such as calling, messaging and also browsing. Cell phones are usually easily portable as they are wireless and possess inbuilt antennas (Ravichandran). The earliest commerce generations of cell phones can be traced back in 1973 and were capable of communicating using radio frequency. However, over the decades, the cell phones have undergone several changes in both the technology and shape. Today, cell phones have become an integral part of our society. With the technological advancements, the modern cell phones do have several features which are captivating to teens. For instance, besides calls and texting, they do have good quality cameras, game applications as well as internet connections among other features. JIMMY!! Put your phone down and get to work!! STOP watching youtube!!! Kids are so addicted to their phones. They don't even know they wake up looking like zombies and they don't even care. Should kids be allowed to use their phones too much. Because some kids use them too much, even all night.
Nearly all of the today’s society has a smartphone in hand. As a whole, we depend on this phone in the same aspect as we did a baby blanket in our childhood. Children are now receiving phones sooner than in years past, and due to this technological development being fairly new there is not much history to compare to. I chose to research the impact of mobile phones on adolescents, because not many people are aware of the impact it can bring. There is no set answer as to whether or not mobile phones are good or bad, to base decisions off of. I want people to be able to use this information to recognize the impact in their lives and use it to influence their decisions. This research was particularly difficult because there are many gaps and older information found within the studies. Comprehensive findings explain how mobile phones can benefit adolescents in social behavior development, and negatively impact adolescent relationships; however, it does not explain whether they will carry into adulthood.
Technological advances have increased dramatically in the past 40 years. Martin Cooper invented the first cellular phone in 1973, which was called the Dyna Tec, while working for the famous company Motorola. The first cellular phone did not sell well because it was as large as a brick. So now knowing how technology has advanced, it is obvious to see why it is advancing. Although technological advances have affected both the generalized public and society’s teenagers, it seems to have had a larger effect on society’s teenagers, specifically the advances in cellular phones. Not only does cellular phone usage affect a teenager’s social life and literacy, but it also affects their health. Cellular phones have a great impact on a teenager’s social life. The following solution would also be in their best interest without them even realizing it. Pretty much everyone you see today has a cell phone: adults, teens, and even children. Teenagers are affected the most by cell phones because they are in such an important stage of their lives. While they are on their way to becoming adults, everything they do will affect them. Having such easy access to cell phones causes teens to be more distracted from their surroundings, makes them less socially active, and also makes them lazy.
As any other innovation, the smartphone was created to simplify the life of users. A difference from the mobile phones of the 1990’s a smartphone is “a mobile phone that performs many of the functions of a computer, typically having a touch screen interface, internet access, and an operating system capable of running downloaded applications” (Matar). For teenagers having access to advanced smartphones, the use of the internet through this device is giving them the ability to be in constant use of social media platforms, for example, games, music, social media, entertainment news, etcetera. As a consequence, these devices have become one of the main distractions for teenagers. Unfortunately, there is no control in what teenagers access through their smartphones. In fact, for many teenagers to view their social media pages is the first thing they do in the morning and the last thing they do at night. It is a constant battle in real life to get the attention of teenagers, their world seems to be control by their smartphones. On the other hand, teenagers have the power to take advantage of the benefits a smartphone has to offer, such as help teenagers to obtain faster information to complete a homework assignment or a school project, also there can be live
