Animal Testing is the process of experimentation involving using products on non-human animals and recording the reaction on the animal in order to see the effects of a product. Each year over 100 million innocent animals are killed for animal testing. Usually products used on animals will have negative effects that will result in painful effects for the animals. Animal testing is a great advance in medical technology, but hurts the animals that are being tested. Products that are tested on animals could include cosmetics, skincare, cleaning supplies, and household items. Companies feel the need to test on animals to see the reaction on them and determine what could happen when the consumer uses uses the product. All of these animals being …show more content…
Common household items such as Arm & Hammer, Clorox, Comet, Febreze, Glade, Lysol, Tide, and Windex are tested on animals to evaluate the reaction the animals may have. In order for scientists and researchers to test on animals they infect animals with diseases, blind them, poison them, burn their skin, cause brain damage, implant electrodes, and injure or wound them. All of these painful procedures lead to long term suffering, such as social isolation, electric shocks, lack of food and water, repeated breeding, and the separation of infants from mothers. In most studies animals die before the end of their specific study due to the cruel treatment they are given. Many studies also use the process of animal restraining devices the make the animal be still. Cosmetic brands are one of the largest users of animal testing. Brands such as Avon, Bobbi Brown, Covergirl, Estée Lauder, Head & Shoulders, L’Oréal, M.A.C. Cosmetics, Mary Kay, Maybelline, Pantene, Revlon, and TRESemmé also use animal testing for their …show more content…
Carcinogen is the ability to cause cancer in a living tissue. These tests are done orally, inhaled, or applied to the skin over a two-year time period. However, rodents are some of the weakest animals to be used when being studied for carcinogenicity because they are more prone to cancer than humans. The Dermal Penetration or skin absorption tests are tested on rodents such as rats. This test examines the movement of a chemical within the skin and through the bloodstream. The rat is killed after the chemical is given and the amount of absorption the chemical gave to the animal is estimated. The skin absorption test is also quite unreliable because of the differences in the skin structures of rodents and humans. The Neurotoxicity tests examines if a substance causes changes to the nervous system. This test is done by giving rats daily doses of the substance being testing for either 28 days, 90 days, or one year. Then the rats are looked at and observed for physical behavioral changes. They are then killed at the end of the period of time they were to be
What is animal testing? Animal testing is when scientist experiment on animals to find cures for diseases, and development of medical treatments. Many animals die because of this. Majority of people don’t know what they go through and how the process is done. Animal testing is inhumane for the following: why it is done, how it is done, and when it is done.
First of all, animal testing is unethical even if we are more evolved than the animals being tested on. Scientist force animals into cages and put them through hours, days, or weeks of testing. Testing can include such things as brutal as water and sleep deprivation, pain infliction, and force feeding food that the animal is not supposed to eat. The worst part seems to be that the animals have no choice to be tested on, and after they are most of them are “put down,” or killed because the human race has used them and does not need them any more. A good example of the brutal treatment the helpless animals get is The Draize Eye Test, in this test bunnies are used to test many soaps and cleaners to see if they are toxic to human eyes. The Draize Eye test is still common despite the fact that there are alternative methods.
Obesity is the 21st centuries plaque. It is a disease spreading at a rapid rate, taking over our society; affecting us from the grass roots up. Obesity, defined as excess fat/weight causing health issues is a multifactorial issue that needs to be addresses. There are too many consequences presented by the disease, both physical and mental to allow it the continual power to destroy the lives of many, too many Australians. The alarming rate at which this disease is spreading must become a topic of conversation for our whole society. Change needs to be seen at every level.
There are so many products being tested on animals , from being lipsticks, shampoos, makeup, skin care etc. But have you ever wondered the side effects these animals experience while using these products? They will experience Burning, torturing, pain, hunger, thirst etc. How is living in a cage living? It's not it is just surviving.
Animal testing is a cruel way to try and develop new products. There are several other and much safer options that will get better results and potentially save up to two million animals every single year. The Animal Welfare Act is in place but only minimally protects certain animals and leaves many others, up to 95%, vulnerable to atrocious fates. The animals not protected by this act (mostly small or considered house pets) are most widely used and not related closely to humans. There are several alternative methods but they are being neglected since they are new and not being enforced because of it. A few countries and states have banned certain aspect of animal testing but others are encouraging this cruelty.
YuChan and John: Animal testing is an experiment on the animal to test the new product that is happening around the world. Humans are testing the product on animals to just check that is safe for human. It is only benefit to humans, not animals because if that is wrong, it would kill them or make them live with problems on their body. People kills average of millions of animals once a year.
The central theme to this essay will be to answer the question “Discuss the roll that graphic design played in political/social change in a specific period”. This essay will look into what Hitler’s propaganda meant for the Nazis and the population of Germany. Propaganda is the dissemination of information to influence or control large groups of people. In totalitarian regimes like Nazi Germany, propaganda plays a significant role in consolidating power in the hands of the controlling party. (ushmm, 2015) This essay in conjunction will look into what Hitler’s propaganda meant, what methods conducted by Adolf Hitler and the Propaganda Ministry, directed by Dr. Joseph Goebbels use to infiltrate their enemies and commit mass genocide of the
Animal testing is cruel and inhumane. According to Humane Society International, animals used in experiments are commonly subjected to force feeding, forced inhalation, food and water deprivation, prolonged periods of physical restraint, the infliction of burns and other wounds to study the healing process, the infliction of pain to study its effects and remedies, and "killing by carbon dioxide asphyxiation, neck-breaking, decapitation, or other means." [47] The Draize eye test, used by cosmetics companies to evaluate irritation caused by shampoos and other products, involves rabbits being incapacitated in stocks with their eyelids held open by clips, sometimes for multiple days, so they cannot blink away the products being tested. [48][49] The commonly used LD50 (lethal dose 50) test involves finding out which dose of a chemical will kill 50% of the animals being used in the experiment. [65][102] The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) reported in 2016 that 71,370 animals suffered pain during experiments while being given no anesthesia for relief, including 1,272 nonhuman primates, 5,771 rabbits, 24,566 guinea pigs, and 33,280 hamsters. [121]
Many of these animals are killed unnecessarily to test various household products and cosmetics. The animals being tested include; dogs, cats, rabbits, rats, guinea pigs, hamsters, and primates. There are several different types of test performed on these animals. Here are just a few with a brief description on the test and the effect that it may have on the animal:
The hit TLC show Toddlers and Tiaras welcome viewers behind the scenes of the competitive world of child beauty pageants, showing viewers the glitz and glam of the pageant world. Typically, competitions demonstrate the importance of hard work and practice, teaching contestants valuable life lessons, however, beauty pageants teach contestants that the worth of a person is solely based on their appearance. Beauty pageants are based on physical appearance, customs, and fitness appearance instead of importance factors such as intelligence, achievements, and self-love. Children beauty pageants are extremely exploitive and detrimental to a child’s overall well being, damaging self-esteem and health.
Additionally, animals also undergo immense pain and trauma in the pursuit of results that are not directly applicable for human use. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the U.S. has been using animals for testing to conclude that drugs and cosmetics are safe and effective before going into the human tests since the 1960s. These tests have been going on for
Imagine being born, only to live a life of torture. You are brought to a lab, and cruelly tested on against your will. Toxins poured into your eyes, painful injections to your skin, then left to die when you’re no longer useful. Although many do not realize it, people use products tested on animals in their everyday lives. For girls, many of your favorite makeup brands, such as Estee Lauder, Makeup Forever, and Maybelline take part in animal testing. Products such as toothpaste, cologne, deodorant, laundry detergent, razors, and even band-aids aren’t tested innocently, either. As a makeup enthusiast, I am passionate about how the products I use daily are tested. Today I will help you understand what animal testing is and how it started, how it’s currently affecting animals around the world, and what organizations are doing to help make a difference in the future. To begin, I will explain the history of animal testing. An animal test is any scientific experiment or test in which a live animal is forced to undergo something that is likely to cause them pain, suffering, distress, or lasting harm.(https://www.crueltyfreeinternational.org/why-we-do-it/what-animal-testing) Animal experiments are not the same as taking your animal to the vet. Animals used in laboratories are harmed, not for their own good, and usually killed at the end of an experiment. Animal experiments include injecting or force feeding animals with potentially harmful substances, exposing animals to radiation,
Animal testing is an extremely inhumane form of treatment. However, some argue that due to the inability to test on human beings, animals provide the knowledge that cosmetic products are safe to use. Through the process of testing on animals, any issues that develop regarding the eyes or skin can be fixed before the product is sent to the market. With over seven thousand proven safe ingredients to choose from, why are companies still torturing animals without need? Bunnies, guinea pigs, mice, rats, and even cats and dogs, especially
Mr. Clean, Ivory, OFF, Herbal Essences, BIC, really? These are some of the products used to test on animals, but for what reason. By using these products, you are a suspect to animal testing/ cruelty. Animals should have as much rights as humans, because no animal should have to go through so much pain for what reason, does society really need new cleaning products and chemically made soap? But what society needs to know behind closed doors is that there are about 115 million animals that suffer and are killed each year. Also, animals endure chemicals being dripped into their eyes, injected into their bodies, forced up their nostrils or forced down their throats. (With no pain killers during the process). They are addicted to drugs, forced
Most household families treat their pets as a family member. These family pets are showered with love, care, have a good home, and plenty of food to eat. But not all animals are as lucky as many household pets. Millions of animals are killed, poisoned, and abused from animal testing each year in the Unites States. Just last year the European Union banned the sale of any cosmetic ingredients that have been tested on animals. Also joining the fight against animal testing in cosmetics is Israel and India. These countries have banned all testing on animals for cosmetic purposes. China, not far behind, has just approved their first non-animal test for cosmetics. Many countries are making strides in eliminating animal testing for
