After reading chapter sixteen, it informed me about the importance of writing a persuasive paper. For the first statement, “to persuade my audience that e-cigarettes are harmful to human health”, is simply a question of fact. In this statement, the speaker would act as a lecturer or a teacher informing the audience about the harmfulness of e-cigarettes. I would then rewrite this statement as a question of policy. For example, should individuals test for cancer every three months to see if they are at risk for cancer due to using e-cigarettes? The second statement, “to persuade my audience that a national sales tax should be adopted to help reduce the national debt”, would be a question of policy. Reason being is because it uses the word should within the statement. I would then rewrite the statement as “national sales tax should be adopted to help reduce the national debt because the nation owes other countries funds”.
E-cigarettes have exploded onto the scene in the past three years. Whole stores dedicated to these devices have opened their doors to the public and business is thriving. E-cigarettes are battery-charged devices that have an atomizer, or heating element, in them to vaporize liquid nicotine. The user is able to inhale this vapor and get the nicotine without the other 4,000 chemicals present in tobacco cigarette smoke (Schroeder). Nicotine is a chemical that is produced by the tobacco plant. People have discovered that by smoking the leaves of a tobacco plant the nicotine in the leaves is delivered into the bloodstream. Nicotine by itself is not an awful drug as far as drugs go, although it is highly addictive, it is the tar in cigarettes that does so much damage. Tobacco use remains the number one preventable cause of death in the U.S. with 480,000 Americans dying prematurely from tobacco related disease. Kicking this habit remains difficult for most (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services). Mark Twain once wrote “It’s easy to quit smoking, I’ve done it hundreds of times.”
It is undeniable that the popularity and usage of electronic cigarettes or personal vaporizer devices have been on the rise since they first gained the public’s attention in the early twenty first century. In fact, one study by UBS Securities LLC shows that the value of the e-cigarette market has doubled or more each year since 2007 and was expected to double from two hundred and fifty million dollars in 2011 to five hundred million in 2012(7). Some of the growing concerns is that, like the tobacco market when it first started growing in popularity, there has been little research conducted on the long term effects of electronic cigarettes. Other causes for concern stem from the marketing and sale of these devices to teenagers. This is why the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) needs to impose restrictions and regulations on the use and sale of these devices and conduct further research on the health related effects and long term effects of their usage.
An electronic cigarette, or E-cigarette, is a new form of tobacco product that is increasing in its popularity; it allows one to inhale a vapor in the same way one would smoke a traditional cigarette ("E-cigarettes and Lung Health"). Some people believe that E-cigarettes are better than cigarettes for various reasons, and this belief may be true. These claims do not mean, however, that E-cigs should be welcomed with open arms because of the risks still involved in them. E-cigarettes are dangerous, like tobacco, and their risks should be evaluated being that they are not a good choice for anyone. They should not be made accessible to teens because of the many dangers one can see just with a quick glimpse into E -Cigs. The first red flag one
It is great that Florida legislation proposed a bill to include e-cigarettes and vaping into their smoking ordinance. I am a hospice nurse and wonder what the effect will be on people who choose to use e-cigarettes as opposed to regular cigarettes. Both contain nicotine. So I
Electronic Cigarettes: The Future of Smoking Electronic cigarettes have became extremely popular almost overnight it seems. These devices have worked their way into people’s everyday lives and are continuing to get even more popular. E-cigs are so popular because they do not have near as many chemicals as cigarettes, one can
According to FDA, conclusive tests carried out on samples from two popular brands revealed that there were significant amounts of nicotine and toxic chemicals that might pose a threat to the health of passionate consumers. In fact one of the substances discovered in the test was a carcinogen (cancer causing agent). Following these epic revelations, the FDA issued a statement warning consumers about the likelihood of experiencing health risks after using the product. Therefore in light of this, many pundits in the health fraternity have raised the red flag on the use of e-cigarettes to counter smoking. Here, it is important to note that FDA only regulates e-cigarettes that are sold for therapeutic purposes
According to State of Hawaii House Bill 1951 (2016), an “electronic smoking device” is defined as any electronic product that can be used to aerosolize and deliver nicotine to the person inhaling from the device. This definition includes electronic cigarettes, electronic cigars, electronic pipes, hookah pipes or hookah pens (H. 1951, 2010). These devices deliver flavor and other chemicals along with nicotine to users. “E-liquid” refers to any liquid containing nicotine that is designed or intended for use in a reusable electronic smoking device (H. 1951, 2016). It is thought that electronic cigarettes are a safer alternative to traditional cigarettes. Unlike traditional cigarettes electronic devices do not contain tobacco and produce vapor, not smoke.
Abstract: The decision between the use of e-cigarettes and real cigarettes is an answer that can affect your life and your body during its progression. During the experiments done scientists tested how e-cigarettes affect the body and how well it is seen by the general population of physicians. The first experiment done on smokers using 14-37 packs a year, switching to e-cigarettes, showed that these people began decreasing the amount of packs they smoked by 22% in week 12 of the study and about 13% in one year. The next experiment measured the amount of people in a set group who have ever used an e-cigarette. The results showed about 9% of people said they have used an e-cigarette and about 1% said they have used and stopped using e-cigarette. The next experiment showed cytotoxicity of e-cigarettes and if mice developed any lung issues at various intensities. The use of intense e-cigarettes showed that the mice had much more CRV than the control group of mice, leading to the verdict that e-cigarettes could have a harmful affect on humans too. These results show how e-cigarettes are used between the population and who is more likely to come in contact with the product. Also, the results show that the e-cigarettes affect the human body just like regular cigarettes do.
Although initially introduced as a rehab tool for smokers, e-cigarettes have served Recent discoveries from a research team based in Athens unveiled that the health effects of smoking an e-cigarette for 30 minutes is approximately equivalent to smoking a regular cigarette for 5 minutes. Additionally, the e-cigarettes were found to cause heart stiffening; which can potentially result in cardiovascular diseases. Though one may argue that the damage is still minimal for e-cigarettes as opposed to traditional tobacco products, at the end of the day, long term usage will result in similar chronic diseases. When often overlooked to be risk free, e-cigarettes still underlie multiple detrimental health effects. Perhaps the most concerning part of the situation would still be the teens. The problem
Sensible people are always sorting out ways to get rid of bad habits and smoking has undoubtedly proven to be one of the most harmful habits one can possess. When it comes to the death toll cause by diseases due to smoking like cancer diseases, lung or respiratory diseases, scientists have already taken the inititative to counter this very issue and have come up with a remarkable alternative to smoking i.e Electronic cigarettes.
Cigarette has been an essential stress-relieving tool to many people, even with the health risks and environmental damages cigarette have. In the past three years, electronic cigarette has been taking over on cigarette. Altria (Tobacco producing company) and BluCigs (Electronic Cigarette Company such as “Vapors”) have been in conflict about the health risks and environmental damages cigarette have caused to our planet. Despite the risks cigarette is causing. While the health risks in tobacco cannot be eliminated, Altria is working on reducing the health risks on their products by making it less harmful to smokers. Both companies agree and recognize the risks of smoking and do not encourage anyone to smoke or to discourage anyone from quitting.
E-cigarettes are marketed as a way to get nicotine fix without inhaling all that lung-blackening smoke that’s been directly linked to cancer and heart disease and also the elements inhaled done evaporated nicotine have been linked to stroke, asthma, and diabetes.” In addition to cancer, smoking causes lung diseases such as chronic bronchitis and emphysema, and increases the risk of heart disease, including stroke, heart attack, vascular disease, and aneurysm. Tobacco smoke is a complex mixture of chemicals such as carbon monoxide, tar, formaldehyde, cyanide, and ammonia, many of which are known carcinogens. Carbon monoxide increases the chance of cardiovascular diseases. Tar exposes the user to an increased risk of lung cancer, oral cancer,
With technological innovations happening everyday, many products are being created promoting health. Among these products is what is known as a e-cigarette. With no tobacco, tar, or even smoke, it has to be safe. Or is it? E-cigarettes were first introduced in 2006 as an alternative to smoking tobacco products. These e-cigarettes use vapor as opposed to smoke. The user still can receive their fill of nicotine with an added bonus of a flavor choice. With there first launch they weren 't seen as a breakthrough to many people and quickly was pushed aside. However, with growing technological advancements they have become a trending alternative to the normal cigarette. Many are quick to assume that the lack of actual tobacco results in a less dangerous product. But is it actually what it seems?
chemicals itself too. When smoking cigarettes cigars or even e-cigs, everybody wants to know why do us people share when smoke? Well, according to “Can sharing lipstick, lip balm, or cigarettes give you herpes” it states that “not only can you transmit herpes but almost any other sickness that can be transferred via secretions or saliva. This includes mononucleosis, colds, flus, and even hepatitis” which means that when you share anything that's mouth related to somebody, It's bad enough that you're inhaling it but it's even worst that you're also getting an additional disease from it, like how I explained it earlier, not only its giving you all of these bad things, it's giving you limited amount of days for you to live.whatever that person is caring, you will most likely get it. As you might know the name of it just tells you everything about it, it's bad enough to be even around a vape. Some scientists shows that most e-cigs are exploding nowadays because of the mixed up chemicals and also because it's electric. So if you think that just smoking it is bad well think again. According to “Why e-cigs explode, and how to vape safely”, it states that most e-cigarettes are powered by a lithium-ion battery which is mostly found in our cellphones cameras and to our hybrid cars. When you take a puff out of an e-cig, some of us just know that it's just water but the truth behind “it's just water” is that there is a battery that powers the heating element that then turns the chemical
