In order to deliver messages that support the elite’s beliefs, the media goes through five different filters that determine the information presented, this are ownership of media, funding, sourcing, flak, and fear.
In my everyday life I use all sorts of media, they range from cable television, Internet, radio, and the newspaper. For myself media, is the form and technology I use to receive and communicate information. The different forms of media I was trying to avoid were cable television, the internet and radio. I figured if I could avoid those things I would be doing well in avoiding most obvious forms of mass media. What I realized as I began this whole experience this whole experience is that the mass media is an important if not the most important part of my everyday life. I use it for almost everything I do and it surrounds me.
Due to the increased use, mass media has a huge impact on the news that is made public.

And as we conclude our journey we will explore and reflect on why media literacy is so important for responsible media consumption today. The major developments that have occurred in the evolution of mass media during the last century had come about in the periods between 1860’s and the 1930’s. In which innovations in the electronic and chemicals industries, became a formative movement for mass media. Within these years the development and introduction of not just photography but moving photography also known as (cinema), cable telegraphy, wireless telegraphy, the phonograph, the telephone, radio, and yes even television. The Mass media is one of the most unique feature of modern society and it has brought with it a variety of changes like increase in social interactions, social change and a change in the standard of life. Media plays an outstanding role in strengthening society because of its purpose in informing, educating and entertaining people. As I pondered what I would do for this action project I knew I wanted to steer more towards women in the media. I have always been curious about what the public thinks about certain things, what is trending, what the common thought is on a specific thing, idea etc. As I thought about what my main focus was going to be, I remembered talking to my family about what I was learning and discussing in my Gender and Women’s Studies class and brought up how there seems to be a stigma in today’s culture on how marketing companies make it seem okay to portray women in a negative way just to get their product sold. I thought more deeply about this topic because it has always bothered me to see how companies got away with altering model’s bodies, dressing them in risqué clothing, or putting sexist blurbs smacked across an advertisement in a magazine. I wanted to find a way I could subtly bring about self-awareness to my community around me.
