The Effects of the Affordable Care Act for Families Health care has always been a sensitive and debatable topic over the last couple of years, but more so in the United States. The Health Care Reform is nothing new or surprising to Americans. Americans have been battling the issue with healthcare for over decades and now there was a change to healthcare in 2010. Change is something that many people do not like to deal with, but sometimes it is necessary for improvement. In the United States, we spend more money in healthcare than any other country. The United States had a healthcare system that was not well put together. We were the only country who did not have a health insurance plan in place that covered every citizen. According to Obama, “ ObamaCare’s goals is to give more Americans access to affordable, quality health insurance, and to reduce the growth in the U.S. health care spending” (DeMichele). The ACA is a law that is needed in the United States and it has benefited our country as a whole. Another important impact of the ACA is it, “expands the affordability, quality, and availability of private and public health insurance through consumer protections, regulations, subsidies, taxes, insurance exchanges, and other reforms” (DeMichele). Furthermore, the ACA would be a big help to families who are classified as having a low or middle income. After all the negativity and debate over the ACA, there are some advantages of this law. One advantage is that millions of people who are uninsured have the ability to have health insurance whether it’s through their employer, Medicaid, or through health insurance marketplace. Also, it ensures that health insurance companies are not allowed to drop your insurance due to your illnesses, or the insurance company cannot charge more for your illness. Insurance companies do not have the capability of denying insurance because of a person’s gender. Employers who have more than 50+ employees must offer health coverage to their employees.
